As a recent college graduate, I must say, her honors class really prepares you for university level English courses. She is strict, expects a lot from her students, and leans towards heavier homework loads, but she truly cares about her students and what she does. As a student, you must work for your grades and actually think. Overall, I recommend her for someone looking to really learn and willing to work hard. If you want an easy A, she's not for you.

She can be a really hard teacher but an A is not impossible. Make sure you participate A LOT! It helps so much. She can seem scary, but she is actually a good person.

Her class is really hard, requires a LOT of works, and she can be intimidating. What I hated the MOST was annotating books. It takes FOREVER. Overall, I learned a lot from her class, though.

She's a very strict and hard teacher. You must not only get good grades, but also "participate" in the class because that's 1/4th your grade. How silly is that >.> Anyways, she doesn't like questions.

I didn't like how she drew frowny-faces on essays, quizzes, and basically on any paper you turn in. But, I did learn a lot from her.

Ms. La Vela can seem mean at first, but once you get to know her she's really nice and sweet! Her work is hard, but I learned sooo much this year and I've improved my essay writing A LOT! Just don't make stupid mistakes that she tells you not to make and everything will be okay.

she's the BESTTTT ever! I don't think I've ever learned so much in an English class. Yeah, she makes you work hard, but what do you expect? That's what a teacher's supposed to do: teach. She's intimidating at first, but as you ease up and get to know her, she's awesome. The only bad thing about her class is that she's SO fair that there's almost no loophole to receive an A- when you deserve a B+. She's my favorite teacher.

Ms LaVela is an amazing teacher, with a natural ability to teach. She has dramatically improved my English skills from horrible to half way decent Korean style. I loved being in her class, the enviornment was enjoyable and the work experience was hard but worth it. As a Sunny Hill student in his junior year, i believe she was the first teacher who really opened my eyes to the world of english my whole life. Although the book selection is a little bland, she really knew how to release the characters....
