One of the better English teachers I've ever had. Ms. Royse knows how to conduct a class that both maintains the students' attention and teaches useful skills and material. The class is heavily taught through class discussion. Ms. Royse will pose an idea from literature, famous documents, etc. and the class will discuss their thoughts. Throughout the discussion she will insert more ideas into the discussion and by the end of the class period, you leave with a great understanding of the writing.
She is very strict upon her ways none of which are good. She compares her teaching to colleges which they aren't uses all the same materials from another teacher and can't keep up to date with her work. Her grading style is poor and she enjoys mockery and sarcasm constantly one of the worst teachers I've had
Ask good questions, do background work on your texts, and oh i don't know- give a d.a.m.n (it wouldn't let me use the word) about the class. No she isn't always warm and fuzzy and sweet, but she has a mothers heart and she really and truly cares about us beyond grades. I'm lucky enough to have seen the rare occasions on which she has cried. But she's also got a twisted sense of humor and can be as commanding as a queen, which can freak you out if you aren't prepared for it.
I did well and got a 5 on the AP tests, but, like Ms Prince, who is her best friend, she has a superiority complex and does not take kindly to questioning her methods. She likes to preach that her standards are comparable to a college's; they aren't.
She definitely knows how to challenge you, but is so helpful in preparing you for AP tests. We spent time analyzing literature very deeply, not just grazing the surface on what terms the author used. Very enjoyable class.
BEST TEACHER AT HORIZON!! I was lucky enough to have her for two years of English, and I passed the AP exam with a 5. She is funny, smart, and very helpful. Get to know her outside of class as well.
Ms Royse is the best teacher I have ever had. She listens and cares and is helpful when we have questions. Its an AP class so its supposed to be hard, but she doesnt make it impossible. She just challenges us to do our best.
Royse was the most amazing English teacher I have ever had. In the two years I had her, She prepared me very well for the AP exam and for college English. Speak up in class and don't use your cell phone and you will get along fine
The discussions in the class were pointless in my opinion. I gained absolutely nothing, oh wait, I learned how so-and-so feels about love "Like, I think, like, that what Brian, err i mean, like Byron, was trying to say is that, he like was in love. And i know what he means. I've been through the same thing..." Her teaching style was too unstructured and impersonal for me. Perot for AP. I got a 5.
I loved the pieces we read, and she did a good job explaining them. The class discussions were very helpful. Mrs. Royse is very funny and sarcastic. The class is hard, but that's to be expected-it is an honors class, after all.
she was SO nice when she talked to the class as a regular person, but i hated her as a teacher. She ALWAYS played favorites and if she didnt like you, you KNEW it. she was very rude and unkind.
Good teacher, if u dont want to work hard then u will hate this her class but if you enjoy english and are willing to work you will love her! I loved all the discussions in class, she really made poetry come to life for me!
Mrs. Royse is an sophisticated teacher. She scared me so much, i always did the homework. She really is a good teacher, i think she apreciated the students that challanged her more, and i was a quiet one.
Mrs. Royse was the best teacher I have ever had! If you took the time to actually do the assignments, than you got something amazing out of her class! I'll miss her when I leave Horizon!
Far too focused on her petty rules as opposed to teaching an English class. Helpful discussions in class, but not when she would discuss two similar things, both being choices on the test.
Mrs. Royse tries. She really does. But her sarcasm and style of teaching didn't do it for me. I couldn't get past her moodiness and blatant dislike of students (especially guys).
i really liked her class, she's a good teacher. her class was definitely feminist and they did joke about guys sometimes (not really bad one of course...)
mrs royse was an amazing teacher. if you took the time to pay attention then you got a lot out of the class.
I had her freshman year and I thought she was nice and all but sometimes she could be quite sarcastic and moody towards her students. She needs to learn to control that as a teacher and should know better. The work wasn't hard but she could have made it a bit funnier and not so serious.
She can be disorganized and unclear with instructions sometimes, but other than that, she's great. She's not mean: talk to her outside of class. She's friendly.
Mrs. Royse is an incredible teacher. She is probably the best for grammer and if you listen you can learn alot. If you don't like her, you have bad taste!
She should quit because she doesn't seem to like teaching.
I had her freshman year and she was kinda intimidating, I felt like if I ever approached her about anything she'd yell at me
She knows what she's talking about and dispenses the material with a sense of humor.
