She smiles when you get something wrong. I swear she always does.
While she may be strict and blunt, she is pressuring the students to improve. I see people criticizing her for saying that something is "horrible" but some people teach that way. They pressure the kids to make them learn. Her class is very hard, but she knows what she's doing, is very organized, and will definitely prepare you for the rest of your English classes. Always happy to help students on their essays, she is probably one of the teachers on campus from whom you will learn the most.
One of the nicest tachers you will ever take, really goes out of her way to make sure you get the material. Though she is hard she will prepare you for whatever English class you plan on taking next
Mrs. Arias is the only teacher who has completely changed the way I think and write, and she's one of the kindest teachers here. You may not think that at first, of course, especially since she's very blunt. Here I'll address Previous Poster. "Horrible" is definitely a crushing thing to hear, but she is directing that at the writing, not the student; the pressure is the incentive. Even if it doesn't seem like it, she'll help you grow a lot. Prepare to lose sleep, though. (Essay prep was 6+ hrs)
Mrs. Arias is easily the best teacher that I've ever had. Not only does she put a ton of effort into educating her students about literature, history, and writing combined, but she also prompts students to think for themselves. She grades harder than most teachers on campus, but she also gives you tons of advice on how to improve your essays. If you were lucky enough to get her as a teacher, please ask her for advice. She's extremely nice about it, and it will help you a lot.
Mrs. Arias is truly the most inspirational teacher you will ever come across. She dedicates her time to really helping her students learn and become better writers. It was an absolute joy to walk into her classroom and participate in literature discussions. She explains everything until you understand and is always there for you. Even though she grades relatively hard, she is definitely one of the most amazing teachers I have ever had and I would definitely recommend her to any student.
Amazing and inspiring teacher. I loved her and her class and she made me appreciate English literature so much more and improved my writing so much. However, her grading is tough.
The best, most inspiring, kind hearted teacher I had the honor of learning from. EXTREMELY hard class but you learn so much. If you don't slack off, you can maintain a good grade. Not an easy class but you'll never be in a class and learn so much as you do in hers.
Mrs. Arias is a very challenging teacher. She is kind and understanding but she is definetly not easy! She does teach very well and i learned a lot from her class, my writing has improved as well but her high expectations does make it harder. You have to study hard in her class and even then, you might not get an A. She was the class i studied for the most but ended up being my only B. it was a borderline grade, so i was disappointed when she said she didnt round up.
I had Mrs. Arias for. Eng. 1H. She taught me so many things that contribute to bad writing. For instance, searching up words on thesaurus.com to try to sound sophisticated. You will get called out on the spot for using the word in the wrong context. Also, words like "would" and "could" are speculation, ruining the heart of your analysis. I recommend you request for her freshman year. Yes, it's an impossible class, but you learn so much. I received an A- 1st semester and an A 2nd semester.
awesome teacher, really nice but grade kind of hard
I had Arias for English 1 Honors, so this review may not apply to her 3 IB/4 AP classes. Now that that's out of the way, I'm going to tell you straight up that if you want an A in this class, you're going to have to make little to no error. Roughly 85-90% of freshman will not be able to obtain an A-. However, in exchange for her impossible class, you will learn a LOT. After her class, every other English class from sophomore year to senior was ridiculously easy. Arias FTW :)
If you get her, she's the best you can get. Literally. Hard, but very helpful. Good at explaining and guides you if you ask, but not enough so that you aren't thinking. You learn a lot from her class.
Mrs. Arias, i believe, is the best english teacher, although she is tough and strict on grading. I believe my writing has improved greatly just by having her as my freshman teacher for pre-ib. :) I love her :D
Amazing teacher...hardest class EVER! Very clear on directions and very soft-spoken. She is the kind of person who can control an entire room of teenagers simply by saying "I am speaking" in a barely audible voice. Would consider her one of my best teachers but hardest class. Easy to speak up but NOT GOOD IF YOU CAN'T SIT STILL!!
i love mrs. arias. she was a wonderful teacher, but very strict. and her expectations are very high so its not easy to meet them. i learned a lot from her class. it was a VERY challenging class.
Though Mrs. Arias grades very, very strictly, she is an awesome teacher! She has high expectations, but she will really help you out if you need it. She cares about you a lot, though at times she might seem scary... She teaches you how to write an essay and analyze, and she does it very well. My writing has improved ten-fold after Arias. There's no better teacher to start English 1 H with! By the end of the year, she was my favorite teacher! Definitely get her :) I love you Mrs. Arias!
Arias is an awesome teacher! She will teach you a lot of new things. She is on the tougher side though and grades hard.
Arias is a pretty hard teacher, but very helpful. She expects a lot from her students, but she has a scary/motivational teaching method.
One of the best teachers on campus! Nice, but difficult (in a good way).
awesome English 1H teacher! may be intimidating and challenging, but what you learn really helps you in the rest of your high school career!
she may be a hard teacher, but it's all worth it in the end. she really does help a lot
Mrs. Arias is probably the best english teacher on campus. Although she is extremely hard. she burns grammar and english into your brain. so that youll be prepared for anything
greatest english teacher on campass. No matter how hard the class gets, in the end you wil love her and love how well she prepares you. A B in Arias will prepare you for an A in any other englsh clas
she's a really hard teacher, but she's kinda nice and will really prepare you. i hate her hard grading system though :[
She's an amazing teacher for English, she'll make sure you're prepared. The class may get tough, but you just need to prioritize and make sure you stay on task, and you should be fine. She's also extremely nice and understanding - she may be strict, but it'll be to your benefit.
Really great teacher. (: You learn a lot and she helps you improve, and get you really prepared for the future. (: Her class is difficult, but you get the hang of it sooner or later. :O And then things start to become easier. (: She may make you nervous and such, but she's extremely nice. (: When we discuss and stuff, you can get shy and whatever, but she helps you throughout it, so speaking up is easy. And for essays, you have to really pay attention to what she wants, then it's easy. xD Good Luck. :P
A bit scary at first. But prepares you really well. Her class is hard at first but gets easier later on. If you want to improve, request Arias.
arias is a very good teacher. She is strict but super nice. It's just her class that can be a bit challenging but overall i strongly recommend you to take her if you are good at english.
I had Arias for 1H and it wasn't ask bad as a lot of my classmates thought. Just listen to her, do what she tells you, and you'll be fine. I liked her a lot :)
She seems strict w/ all her expectations b/c we are "honor" students, but she helps you with things, and prepares you for ap/ib classes..b/c she teaches those classes, so she has higher expectations.
Doesn't seem as strict as she appears to be. Helps students on improving essays and how to get a good grade in the class. Expectsthe effort for your grade, but getting an A shouldnt be too difficult.
Seems a bit strict at first, very helpful person, straightforward, helps improve essays, teaches the things that should help in your next course.
Fantastic teacher, slightly strict, knows what she's been doing, (because she's been doing whatever she does before computers came out), tolerant, and really really nice!.
Very Helpful but just a GPA killer for people who don't really like english
She is very helpful, and helps you correct your mistakes that you make on essays
gives a lot of work, extreeemely picky but overall helpful
best teacher i've had in hs. her due dates are clear, instructions are direct. she does not give out too much hw. i would rather have too much rather than none at all. organized, friendly, CARING, etc
At first I was scared of her AHAHAH. But she turned out to be real helpful. The work she gives is really unbearable, but it definitely prepares you. Especially the essay writings.
did you know her first intital is H? making it hari-as? This is a well known distraction that disturbs the class. This is why no work is done
I had her freshmen year, If you want to be prepared in writting is suggest you get her, she prepares you very well, but she does provide a good amount of work. Extremly good teacher overall..
shes okay. kind of boring but really nice and is willing to help you out. just dont ever t.a for her.
Arias is a really good teacher but her teaching methods are too striaight forward. If she had more activities in her class, I think it would be more enjoyable. But overall, she does know her subjects.
Shes a little strict.. i'm in honors and shes extremly picky.. well she helped my writing a lot this year... so i guess she isnt that bad.. but she makes me wanna fall asleep.. so its kinda boring
She's a little strict and grades hard, but finish all homework, and get good grades on tests, and that should get you an A in her freshman honors class.
Don't be late for class! She's strict, and sometimes unwilling to admit that she's wrong. But as long as you work hard in class and study for tests, you'll learn something and get a good grade. Participate in discussions!
she generally knows what shes talking about and you can tell that she wants to help her students. but i really dont understand her grading system for essays.
she is one of the best teacher you can gets in W.H.S. even thought she grades hard, but I really learned a lot. Arias is someone who actullay care about her students.
Well at first I didn't like her. But now if I can choose all over again. I would pick her. She's really strict but you'll thank her later. Good teacher!
Awesome Teacher! Have her for English and as long as you read and do class discussions and ask questions your all set.
If you mess up or do something stupid during class, she will tell what you did to the other classes, and she is very impatient.
Though she forces a strict envoirment she usually has a positive attitude in class and is one of the best teachers i had for english
Shes a very very kind person. Always willing. Atmosphere is professional.
i had her for comp keyboarding...it was freakin easy!!!
