He's tough and will rip your writing to shreds. But he actually has good advice. He has pushed me so much this year, and I definitely want him to teach me again. Plus he's really funny.
I had Ayres for one of his English classes recently. I think he's an overly earnest person who thinks he understands people (and social issues) better than anyone else. I've heard people say that he once said, "I'm a white guy who gets it." Oh please. He (very obviously) picks favorites, spends far too much time filling classes with "free writes," and leaves very little time to discuss the reading. Ayres walks around CA like he owns the place. Not a fan, in case you couldn't tell.
Really chill guy, just not a good english teacher.
Ayres is one of the best teachers I've had at CA. He is very approachable, and though his advice can be touchy feely at times, it is ultimately accurate and helpful. His classes are fun.
Ayres is the man. He's just not a good teacher; that's OK, because for him, "It's all about the balance." Totally worth iced coffee or bowling with. Just don't bring up literature.
he's not a good teacher. at all. but he's a really cool guy, really good to talk to.
