For English 2 Honors, his in-class lectures were mostly great (only occasionally repetitive). I'll cut to the chase : sophomore research paper. He "strongly recommends" a process of making copious notecards featuring useful quotes from your sources. This might work for you, but for me it was a lot of time wasted. So definitely do all the notecards he requires you turn in, but for your own use, make as many (or few) as you want. PS. He grades papers very quickly, so follow his formula.
As a senior, this has to be the worst class I've taken at bell. I'll start with the vocab test. You will have about 70 word quizzes about 6 times a semester, not to bad right? Well he doesn't give you definitions, I've had to spend a lot of time looking up words. He gives ridiculous reading quizzes that ask for plot summary. For example, "Name the first thing Alice said to Bob after he arrived". First day of school, he says, "you guys have 100 pages of pages of reading due next monday and a quiz
Awesome, funny, and insanely knowledgeable about everything he teaches. His literature tests are not very difficult, but require an insane amount of preparation. One of the best teachers I've ever had! ALL HAIL KING HEALY!
Bill is a living legend. He truly knows what he is teaching and is funny, engaging and interesting. I took his english 2 h class and it is 100x better than Dbaxs elap class. Ive heard negative reviews of his classes for seniors but english 2h was the best class i took that year. Highly Recommend the wild bill
Now Gregory let me tell you about this little piece written by Eliot...
You gotta do the reading!
The man in Mathewson hall himself, peace be upon his name.
Mr Healy was the highlight of my sophomore year. English2H is daunting at first but Mr Healy makes it worth it. He's super smart and knows what he's talking about. Follow the steps for the research paper and it makes the second semester easy. Highly recommend his class. It made me a better English student.
Take his english 2 honors class cuz it is the most interesting class you can take sophomore year. All hail the Wild Bill.
Mr. Healy is probably the best sophomore teacher you can have. While extremely difficult and annoying at times, it becomes a question on why you are in his class. It will be like that for weeks on end. Then he will give one mind blowing lecture, followed by another, followed by another! Wow, this guy might be the Bellarmine GOAT. Then he assigns the research paper and you take it all back. That's my experience with Bill. And his crap vocab.
this man is a lit god. INSANELY KNOWLEDGABLE. dude legit pulls the most amazing stuff out of nowhere, and unlike the typical crappy english teacher, leads u to the answer and makes it make sense. have pulled an A with relative ease. lit tests are intimidating but easy to study for, essays are straightforward for semester 1. and his style is low key fresh. 10000/10 would recommend. TAKE ENGLISH 2 HONORS. YOU CAN LITERALLY DO IT IF YOU KNOW HOW TO WRITE.
His class is the one class that I actually look forward too. The work is tough but he really teaches well and knows a lot about what he says. I would highly recommend this class.
Somehow grades everything in like a day
The best teacher. He inspired me to become a high school teacher. I am a Bellarmine graduate of 2003. I now teach AP Literature. He clearly inspired me.
A chill dude who won't hesitate to commend you (or berate you). To win, copy-paste his lectures into your essays. Don't try to outsmart him, b/c your grade won't like that. Feel free to ask for help, and tests are hard but graded by TA's. Have fun.
"guys, ya gotta do the reading:
My best sophmore teacher, love his class. Could not reccomend it more, but. work is hard one day easy the next.
Amazing English teacher. In this class you will learn master the 5-paragraph essay and be able to write concisely and analytically in no time. Awesome lectures, too - very knowledgable on literature. But beware, you will pull all nighters one week and have zero work the next, extremely variable workload.
Mr. Healy is easily the most engaging, knowledgeable, and just all round amazing english teacher I've had so far. Ever. I don't think I've ever dozed off on one of his lectures. Just make sure to get on his good side and to make sure you read, lots of pop quizzes.
Mr Healy rocks. One of the best teachers ever. Mr Healy and Mr. Allesandri are part of an exceptional English department at Bellarmine.
Mr. Healy is my favorite teacher at Bellarmine-an absolutely amazing teacher who blows my mind in class day after day. I'm loving his class right now, English 2 Honors would not be the same w/o mr. healy
Had him for English 2 Honors. Great class, learned a lot. This guy knows what he's doing. If you follow his instructions you won't get overwhelmed that much. Crunch time at the end of the year will probably still happen, but you won't really need to pull any all nighters. Sit around smart people, he chooses groups by location in the classroom. Thanks to this class, multiple 5-paragraph essays are no longer difficult. His final is a joke. It's all multiple choice vocab with repeating words.
I had Bill Healy a couple of years ago. Literally made me think different about literature now that I look back on it. Not easy by any means but his class made me finally understand english/literature
What's there to say about Wild Bill? His E2H class was incredible, and he taught us things we never imagined we could accomplish
Mr. Healy is the best English teacher ever. His English 2 Honors class might now be easy, but if you work hard, you will learn so much. Loved the class
Bellarmine's English department with Mr. Healy, Mr Alexander and others is excellent. Math department (Reyerson etc.) sucks.
nice to debate kids only. tip for his class: always be in a group with somebody he likes...automatic high grade
"Well, you guys",in Freshman year, I used to think that Healy was am jerk. Primarily because the only interactions I had with him were at 6 o'clock at Debate Tournaments when he didn't have coffee. In any case, loved his class(E2H), one of the best classes I have ever taken. And while you may be intimidated by him or his class, he really is a nice person, who cares about the students. I'm not going to lie to you, second semester is beast in the difficulty, so if you are not prepared, don't take the class.
bill is the man. great teacher. helps ur writing improve a rediculous amount. as usuall u dont like him at the beginning but then after the first quarter u realize wat he has to offer and that he is the man. best teacher i have had
what everyone said below... is true. i used to dread his class at the beginning of the year, but i gradually realized that he's helped me understand so many works, and has helped me tremendously on making me a better writer.
Simply the BEST teacher I've had in my 4 yrs @ Bell. One of the WISEST men I've ever met; he's taught me so much about life. Doing yourself a MAJOR disservice by not taking at least one of his classes
bill is by far one the coolest people i have ever met. his trademark voice and sarcasm make him hilarious. every single sophomore should want his e2h class.
He makes you work HARD, but he is the best teacher at Bellarmine by far. Hands down no BS, funny, and understanding.
healy is the best class i had at bell as of junior year. in e2h he was awesome. sweet lectures, awesome class in general, lots of material but he made it interesting. A.Desai'07
Reading quizzes were ridiculously hard, but don't get me wrong.. this guy is amazing. My writing improved three times over during this class (Am. Lit 1)
Easily the best English teacher I've had at Bellarmine. Actually forces you to LEARN the material. Amazing class. (Am Lit 1&2)
One of my favorite teachers; got me really interested in literature through his excellent instruction, interesting and colorful lectures, and his great sense of humor
Mr. Healy is the only English teacher i have ever had that didn't teach any b.s. He always backed up what he said.
A fairly funny and intelligent teacher - and cynical in that humorous way.
A pretty tough teacher, but one of the funniest and best English teachers I've had
Those quizzes.. they're madness; you have to memorize every single detail of every line even if they contribute nothing to the book
great teacher. do the work !!! write really fast on the tests.
Best teacher I've ever had. Had him 3 years, because of him I want to major in English. Best Teacher Ever.
You have to get used to his class. Nice guy. Don't try to BS -- he'll know it.
a very good teacher and an even cooler guy. ROCK ON MR HEALY.
English teacher par excellence. Clearer than any other teacher at Bellarmine. Organized, efficient, knowledgeable, animated. However, somewhat condescending!!
HEALY is awesome. Had him for 3 straight semesters. Helpful, personable, knowledgable. Nice man, great teacher.
