Mr. Dicus changed my perspective on everything. I would do anything just to be in his class one last time. He taught me everything important in life. If you don't have Mr. Dicus as a teacher, I recommend you switch into his class ASAP

Dicus is the best high school teacher I've ever had, period. He treats you like an intelligent adult, and his teaching style is very unconventional and it works. He not only teaches you about English, but might even change your entire view on life.

Dicus is one of the greatest teachers at Chaparral! I had him for AP Lang/Comp Junior year, and for once in my life I enjoyed a class that was not about simply learning material, but was more about leaving a lasting effect on the lives of his students. The books and poems we read and discussed broadened my view and will likely have changed my outlook on life forever. I recommend Mr. Dicus to every single student at Chap.

I had Mr. Dicus for junior english back in 2009. It's 2016 and I still think of his class all the time. It is obvious that he was born to teach. The way he transforms a classroom into a family by the end of the year is unreal. Still to this day, the people I keep in touch with are the ones who were in his class with me. Not to mention the way he explains literature- his class is an EXPERIENCE. I feel sorry for those who do not get to have a teacher like Mr. Dicus in their lives.

I'm graduating from law school soon and have thought about Dicus' class frequently in these recent years. It has been a long time since I picked up any literary work, but having him in high school has inspired me to keep reading. I will be reading good literature soon and will be thinking of him. He has truly made an impact in my life.

My son thinks Mr. Dicus is the best, most interesting, cool teacher he's ever had. Because of Dicus' stories and experiences, my son now wants to go on the Europe trip that Mr. Dicus leads, and he's not a kid who joins things easily. He has been inspired by the travel and life-experience stories he's heard and I feel like I know Mr. Dicus too from listening to my son repeat them to me. Thank you for being such a role model for my son!

Mr. Dicus is one of the most amazing teachers I have ever had. He is so worldly and multicultural. He has gone through so much that he has so much input to give on all different types of situations. Sitting in his class is always fun, even if we are just listening to him talk. Most amazing class I have ever had. Eye opening

The best teacher I've ever had, I dread the end of the school year solely because of Dicus. He makes you question life in the best way possible and makes you love literature. AP credits are very important to me and he is very much preparing us for that, however if I were not to pass my AP test I would NOT regret taking this class...yes, he's just that good.

I'm in college now, but Mr. Dicus's class was the best I have taken. To this day. In addition to being an amazing teacher, he is a near-perfect human being, brave enough to tell you stories that will change your life. It's no wonder that everyone signs up to go to Europe with him. Don't miss out, and respect him. You'll truly know how great he was only after you've had him.

absolute favorite teacher. dicus knows what he's talking about, has an immense amount of knowledge to share with the class, and you get as much as you put in. if you don't read the books or try on the essays because he's a lax grader, you don't improve. that has nothing to do with him. he's a great teacher

I promise you that you won't become a better writer in Dicus' class, but you will become a better individual. Dicus has so much life experience, and you really learn a lot about life in his class. I wouldn't trade this class for anything; I can't wait to go on the Senior trip with him.

Dicus is the chillest guy. I strongly recommend going on his senior Europe trip. It was the best time of my life, and there isn't a better person to lead the trip than Dicus. He gives you freedom to explore Europe on your own and be independent. Every day you do and learn so much, every night you go out and have a great time. He designs the trip himself and really cares about each and every person...if you have the chance to go - do it, it's a life changing experience.

First and foremost, Dicus is a very nice and well-versed individual. That being said, his class can be hit-or-miss and every person you talk to can have a different opinion. On one hand, his stories are very interesting and the atmosphere is very relaxed and unique. On the other hand, the class revolves much more around hearing stories and taking tests that demand just remembering fact than analysis or improving English skills.

First of all, I urge you to make your own decision about Dicus when you have his class instead of taking former students' perspectives and making them your own. I thought Dicus was an okay teacher. Personally, I found his classes to be a tad dull and he doesn't really take your opinions into account. He just tells you what poems mean- not much room for discussion, is there? Yes, he doesn't give finals. Yes, he takes you to Europe. But as a teacher- I'd say he's nothing special.

One of my favorite classes that I have taken at this school. It doesn't even feel like a English class, but rather a discussion-based, interactive, and life-oriented class ever. It's neat to have a teacher who has an open outlook in life and shares with his students. I'm so glad that I was assigned to his class! Many lessons and great books that reflect upon life!

Loved this teacher. My entire family had him as a teacher. I loved the posters on his wall. I took his Senior Europe trip, best time of my life thus far. I have never experienced so much in so little and Dicus understood that we were teenagers and let us have free time but his planned tours were well worth it. Do yourself a favor and go on the trip, if he still does them.
