As a freshman, I honestly believe that Mr. Peter has made my year a lot better than what I thought. I learned more from him in one year than in the three years I had in middle school. We learn some music theory, he helps with rhythms, and gives great advice. First year of band where it actually sounds like music. I was also in regiment this year, and it made the summer 10x better and I made friends even before school started. Favorite teacher this year, really gonna miss him when I switch to TO.
often unreasonable, nice guy
obvi plays fav, often unreasonable, but not as bad as it couldve been.
Okay so sometimes he is not super clear. Yeah and sometimes he's quite honest. What do you expect though? He's a band director! It's his job to be honest with his students. If he wasn't honest, how could anyone get better? People are wimps in 2015...
He is going to be honest with you, a lot of people hate it, but it honestly will help you improve in the long run. He can often be unreasonable and might sometimes not know what he's talking about but he is all around a good band director and being a part of his program means much more to me than any complaints I may have about he runs his band. He also really does genuinely care about his students, and this job is obviously his main priority in life and its hard too ask for much more.
Every time I ask a question, all I get is some sarcastic remark. He plays favorites and talks down to all his students, even in the top band. Knowledgable, but not in the right way. His theory is often impractical and useless, especially when he tries to display knowledge on a certain instrument other than percussion. I dislike him as a person, but he is a decent conductor. If he was less cold, and didn't make me feel like a complete fool and terrible, maybe I'd like him better. Not fun at all.
Bluecoats is better
Vanguard is Better
He is not well liked, but honestly he is pretty good teacher! I am in the last band and I have not noticed any animosity toward me because of it. Of course, if you are super rude or don't do your work he won't like you very much.
I have had Mr. Peter for a few years now and I can honestly say that he is a great band director. He is very kind to any students that respect him and follow directions. Students that don't like him are almost always disrespectful to him first. Others that are not fond of him have a very poor reason. He is very motivational and he cares about the success of each and every student.
Mr. Peter honestly plays favorites... and he's pretty good at them too. If your a good musician, he likes you, if not... sorry to say, but he's not gonna care about you at all. Everytime I asked him a question, he'd always reply in a very sarcastic tone... sometimes not even answering the question. I can't remember once when he hasn't answered my question with some snooty remark. He's never complimented my playing nor has really said anything about me at all. And VERY self-centered!
One of the most strict and disrespectful teachers I have had in my 4 years. He only listens to what he wants to listen to, and only likes you if you are good. He keeps on talking about respect, when he doesn't give the students anything. At the end of the day, the band program is all about him.
Extremely uninspiring. He never engages anyone on a discussion topic; when you speak with him, you always feel this wall, this coldness as if he is listening to you, but not hearing what you are saying. In the end, the music program is about him, and his word is absolute. Extremely hard to work with (massive ego), does not play an actual intstrument. Only musical experience is marching band, thus wind ensemble and jazz band knowledge is limited. Will NOT inspire kids with music.
Mr. Peter is a good teacher, he knows what he wants. Sadly, sometimes he doesn't listen to Mr. G, even when he makes more sense than Mr. Peter. He likes to make his students laugh, and makes fun of stupid questions in a way that makes even the asker laugh out loud. Sadly, in regiment, he is not the best instructor to have. He made us march in the dark a few times since we didn't have the football field, and only made us leave early after the students started to protest in the background together
Definitely has his favorites. Unfortunately, he doesn't allow an equal opportunity for all his students. His band program is truly an example of natural selection- the good players prosper the bad players don't. He is not interested in you if you're not good at your instrument. He has a tendency to
better than the average band teacher, but not as good as he thinks. narrow minded, controlling and disrespectful of students. very ego driven. has progressively gotten worse since starting at WHS. this man needs a reality check bad. thankfully not as arrogant as ALAN ROSE!
I like him, he's nice and easy to follow; all you need to do is get him to like you.
good musician of course but he can be BRUTALLY honest which is often discouraging...but he knows what he's talking about
The guy is on a power trip and involves politics in deciding the student leadership. Disregards anybody who does not think like he does. Plays favorites. Takes the fun out of band.
Great conductor, and teacher. He is full of new ideas, and has many.... interesting analogies relating music to the real world. Very passionate about how the group sounds. But many students wish he would spend more time interacting with other students in the band rather than sitting in his office.
I disagree with the statement below. Mr. Peter cares a lot about each member of the band and encourages us to try our best.
He doesn't really care about the individuals in the band, just how it sounds.
Brian Peter is new this year we are lucky to have but we will miss mr. luck although peter might and could turn out to be better from his experience with the Blue devils and all the experiences hes just had it could shape up to be a good Show " A New Beginning"
