I LOVE Mr.Rod! he is a great teacher and cares for the students' well being. He also is the only teacher who seems to care about civic engagement. He expects you to do your best and it's hard sometimes but he likes his students to succeed. By far the best teacher because I already learned life skills in his classes.
Great teacher! Lots of homework, projects, and debates, and fast presentations, but is very knowledgable and a respectable teacher. Provides lots of helpful advice on how to learn and engages the class in modern issues that relate to the unit. And yes, as mentioned in the other reviews here, he prints multiple packets throughout each unit for each student. And then has us annotate them. Which he just skims and checks off. " RIP trees. " Agreed!
Mr.Rod is a nice teacher. Sure, he may not teach directly out of a textbook which may be considered "horrific" to some of you, and sure, he gives an overload of projects and debates, however he simply wants the best for his students. Is it THAT bad that he wants you to have an opinion on the world and is it really THAT horrific that he wants you to go above and beyond? Or would you prefer to not reflect on the information just acquired, depend on the internet, and turn into brainless minions?
Mr. Rod is an interesting individual. He wastes a lot of paper (he literally gives packets of paper to each student for every history unit). That is fact. RIP trees. He assigns random homework that doesn't seem to be related to his expertise, history. ButMr. Rod instead encourages you to dig deeper and practice analyzing and gathering information for the things he assigns. "Prepping" for college, he says (which is fitting, considering he teaches at ASTI). He's also a good public speaker.
Although he does waste a lot of paper and he does like to tease his students, he still is one of the best high school teachers in America. At first, didn't like him that much, but he just wants to make sure you know how to think. I personally disagree with others who think that he is too harsh. I agree though, he is a difficult teacher and he pushes you a lot, but he knows what he's doing and he is preparing us for not only college but our future. He is definitely a great teacher.
Previously a lawyer, he has since been disbarred. He assigned a lot of homework, about two assignments a day. He made us read books unrelated to history. He also makes us do uncomfortable presentations about family history and our backgrounds- which not everyone is comfortable with sharing. There are also those debates that people don't want to do! Some people just don't like presenting to the class! Let them be!
For crying out loud, Mr. Rod doesn't even know what he's doing. He doesn't even teach real history straight from the book, and he just teaches whatever he wants to teach. He started units about unrelated stuff, like Ebola and 9/11. He also reads every word from homework you turn in and grades it VERY harshly. His directions are along the lines of, "The diameter of the Moon is 3474.8 kilometers. A bus is going at 20 mph. Write an essay about inflation." He also assigns multiple projects at once.
the amount of useless busywork was ....incredible
He's very knowledgeable but he just keeps giving homework and its OVERWHELMING. He thinks he's all that and tries to make you feel bad, he gives you projects but as we're working on one of them in the middle of it he gives another. It's very stressful, and if you take himyou better hope you're organized, efficient, and NOT A PROCRASTINATOR. Many students who take him stay up & are tired in school because they stay up too late trying to finish his work. SO GOOD LUCK IF YOU TAKE HIM
Expects way too much from students. The worst teacher that I have had so far. His explanations of the projects due in a week ( two per week) are vague.
One of the worse teachers i ever had. Stack a lot of work at once and all projects are due in 1 week. His instructions for them are also very vague so it is hard to meet his standards.
Mr. Rodriguez is one of those teacher where when he is placed in a school he can't be forced out since he has so many rewards. Mr. Rodriguez wastes allot of paper and from what I'm seeing he assigns so much hw that it doesn't help :/ one of the worst
A lot of people say Rod is self-centered or overly-proud of his accomplishments.. But look at all he's accomplished. Even if I haven't been a top grade student in his class, he is really respectful of all of his students, and honestly a great guy.
Mr. Rodriguez is by far the best teacher I've come across throughout all of my school life. His course is tough, but he makes the lecture and material engaging. Also a great role model.
Rod's class can be a struggle most of the time, but he is very good at what he does even thought e can get very cocky about it sometimes. But I learned lots of good techniques from him, and besides the homework, the class is fairly enjoyable.
Mr. Rod is very confident, bordering/SOMETIMES exceeding on cocky. But he's really good at what he does. Just do your hw, AND DO EVERYTHING HE SAYS and you're good. Though he may sometimes be harsh, he'll really help you pass the AP exam.
Despite the large work load, Rod is such a great teacher. If you follow his instructions you succeed in his class. Be open, attentive, and outgoing in his class! Rod
He is a very knowledgeable person but he doesn't let you know what's going to be on the test which makes his class VERY hard to get an A (or a solid B, to the least) unless you're abnormally intelligent. Another flaw is that he doesn't really understand and say, "You should take a CP class" if you don't turn in your homework on time which I get it's an AP class but still, sometimes life gets difficult and it's not procrastination.
Rod decides to be a dick on some days. Like just decide he is the best person on the planet. But I guess he is a good teacher. I just wish he didn't feel so god-like all the time.
To succeed in his class you need to put all your time and effort into it. You cannot put only 50% into this class. He is very helpful if you try to reach out and get help from him. You want to stay on his good side because it is never fun to have a battle in the middle of class. There will be attitude flying everywhere.
His work is hard, like his work take 3x as long as all my other work other than that i guess he's nice.. i hated him during the year but since the AP exam pass he's not that bad.. NO FINAL YAY!
Rod is infamous for his severity and intense workload, but he is a good teacher. Although he has a commanding presence and has infinite knowledge on history, I wish he would clarify the assignments he gives us-a lot of times it feels like busy work.
Rod is my favorite teacher since sophmore year and truely does prepare you for the AP exam.
Mr. Rodriguez is very strict, but if you plan ahead and follow his advice, you will have an easier time in his class. He is very helpful and encourages you to talk to him if you are having trouble in his class.
Mr. Rodriguez is an amazing teacher. Of all my years in school, the subject and class were my favorite. Granted the work is strenuous and somewhat difficult, it is college leveled, you receive the know how. Not only does he teach with fervor and a certain level of strictness, but he applies the subject to our lives. I remember talking about college and he encouraged me to reach for the stars. He is an excellent teacher and I am so grateful he taught me everything I needed to know about APUSH.
Mr. Rodriguez is the best teacher that I have ever had. He is a very inspiring/memorable teacher and I cannot wait to have him for APUSH next year. His class is very difficult at first but over time you will be able to adjust to his assignments. Not only does his class help you grow as a student, but it helps you grow as a person. You learn a lot about yourself & your study habits through this course. Its a class where you WORK for your grade & get the grade you DESERVE! His shoes are nice too!!
The other guy's right. Rod is legendary. I've never had a teacher like him. It's only been one week since school started and I sure am glad i took is AP Euro class. He gives a TON of work but to help
well, he scares me is one. he's super entertaining to listen to, but he breezes through his ppts a bit too quickly sometimes. it's hard to be bored and sleepy in his class, and yeah
his class seems hard at first, he gives alot of work, but everything he assigns prepares u for ap exam. take the work seriously, participate in class, u'll learn more and pass exam, get 5, have fun
He's the exact opposite of concise -- assignments are much too vague
This guy is absolutely legendary. If you did not have him at least once throughout your 4 years at Encinal, then you are missing out big time. Don't make him hate you and stay on top of your work!
He may seem tough at first, but once you have some time to get used to his methods, you'll succeed no matter what!
If you're on his good side, you're set. Basically, do all the work. All the work he gives actually helps when the AP Exam comes around, he knows what he's doing - listen to him!
he hated me in the first semester so i got a D even though i did all my hw.. but just get on his good side and youll do fine oh and NEVER be late to his class he drops your grade down
He is a great teacher but the fact that he has to rush through all the material that the we need to learn i order to pass the ap exam makes really sucks. but other than that he is a very good teacher
i think his homework is insane and that he gives too much, but i do think he was a good teacher overall. he gave us all the materials we could have needed to prepare for the ap exam
Mr. Rodriguez is an outstanding teacher. He not only teaches the subject but excellent study skills and tips. There is a reason his AP students do well on the test.
Great teacher. Really makes you an intelligent life form.
Cool teacher. He even gives extended due dates to assignment if one really needs it.
rod is a really good teacher even tho he gives A LOT of hw but hes cool. he really cares about his students and makes ppl more responsible.
Seriously awesome - he really knows how to demand the most a student can give.
Rod is the BEST teacher at Encinal! Sure, he gives alot of homework, but we are going to SCHOOL. His class makes me feel like a responsible young adult. Because of him, I've turned into one =)
One of the most challenging classes i've ever had. He had kept my attention, and actually made me work. I have never learned so much in my life though, and i do appreciate it. Great Teacher!! =)
Rod may give a lot of homework, but he really knows his stuff. He can be intimidating at first, but once you get to know him, you can see that he really cares about his students and Encinal.
Easily one of the best teachers at Encinal. Over the past few years, he's helped make Encinal's AP program the number one reason you shouldn't enroll your kids into Alameda or O'Dowd.
I like him way better compared to Frank. There are actual discussions about history!
i love Rod, i have learned sooo much from him and he really does care about his students succeeding. i wouldnt be where i am without him! seriously.
Rod is a really good teacher, but hes just the guy you wanna hate just because he is Rod haha
Rod gives way to much homework. We are his only CP class and all his other are AP. I think that he struggles trying to tone it down b/c he's in AP mode all day. So we get stuckw/AP
Rod is hilarious, just remember not to take things too seriously or personally. Simply have fun and learn the patterns in his grading.
Rod is a great all around teacher. He makes passing the AP exam easy and is there for the good of the students.
Mr.Rodriquez really helps you prepare for the ap exam.If you read the textbook, take notes, read the barrons,do the 80/20 rule;you will be in great shape. This class is actually easy
Mr. Rodriguez is such a cOoL teacher! He's hard, but he's very helpfuL. He makes history fun and interesting. He's the best of the best history teacher!!!
Rod is a fun to listen person. He is hard but he has to be because you are taking this class to aim for the ap exam. Nice, funny, and an awesome teacher.
Rodriguez is the coolest teacher at the school. He's friendly, funny, helpful, and really cares about his students. Really prepares you for the AP exam too.
His class wasn't the easiest, but out of all the classes i had my junior year, i learned the most from his. it was fun and challenging at the same time.
Although his class was the hardest history class, he was the best. He not only had just a normal class, he made his class the best, hard but like family.
Rod is an awesome teacher. I think he should do a little less projects. He does them too close together, aside from that I think Rod is an awesome teacher!
Rod is a really good teacher if you try. He tells you what to do and how to do it, and it's up to you to actually do the work. I felt prepared about the AP exam
What a great experience in his clz.. though stress, pain and loads of hw, it reali help ur other clz n develop habits dat mak u successful.. relai like da clz..
He is a cool teacher! He makes the class fun to learn.
THE BEST TEACHER AT EHS! His class has been only one to really challenge me and to teach me more than facts. I can apply his lessons to other classes and LIFE
kol teacher.. yet, it'x proven dat his methods of hw, studyng n lectures actually help.. AP exam wil b easier.. az junior, i gues i'll miss his clz soon....
Mr. Rodriguez is a very cool teacher. I have a lot of respect for him. Even though it may seem like he gives a lot of hw, he is just trying to help you succeed!
I think Rod gives out a bit too much homework. It's always overloaded everyday and we dont have time to relax. I couldnt study for AP Exam cuz of all the hw.
I really like Rod even though i didnt do that good in his class he was still very helpful in trying to help me do well.
I thought that he was a great teacher, somewhat oblivious to the world and doesn't understand that his students are machines, but he still got me prepared
I am becoming an intelligent lifeform. This class is probably the only relevant, fun one you can take sophomore year. It is what you make of it. Enjoy.
He is horrible. He doesn't care about his students and I can't stand him. He made h.s. miserable for me.He'll probably do the same for you.
Mr. rod is a cool teacher but for some reason he is so intimidating to me that i cannot talk to him about anything.
Rod is a great teacher, my fave at EHS and makes you work for your grade. It's a lot of work but it pays off cuz you really learn and have fun too!
Rodriguez is great... his grading isn't that great but hey... as long as he gives you an A... you are always motivated to do the work! He is 1 of my fav!
this guy class more interesting, but seems to have too much excessive work for us like coloring detailed clothing of the freaken clothes of a king
Best class at EHS because it's the one with the HIGHEST EXPECTATIONS.
his class is hard work, but you can learn a lot if you try your best.
he's one of the only teachers that i like in encinal. the only problem i have with him is he gives us too much homework. other than that he is very cool and fun
I found Rod's class not that hard anymore, once you got used to it, it's just a regulate normal class. Don't stress and everything will be fine.
Rod is kool! he doesnt directly force anyone to do their work but does it without you knowing it! he is just a big homework giver! other than that, he is aiight
He has this uncanny power to motivate his students into doing thier work. It always amazes me.
This is the only teacher that I actually feel that I can talk to at this school. He is really understanding, especially if you tell him whats really up.
The best teacher at EHS, as well as my fav. His class is tough, but it's lots of fun and very informative.
greast teacher i ever had, he is the only teacher that made history FUN at EHS.
hes kool. the best teacher at e high i think cuz hes the only one who cares about anything and even tries to make learning about history or anything interesting
Clear at what he teaches,he gives alot of work he created the song fest which is great,he explores all kinds of activity which is one the of the best things
I actually learn in his class, but then the learning part doesn't bother me because he does make it very interesting with all the different ways he teaches.
One of the best teachers i ever had ever. I admit that it's not easy, but he does what he's paid to do, and that's teach. I learned a lot.
He's not easy, but he's a great teacher. You actually learn in his class, and you WILL thank him later on in life for it.
Rods one of those teachers that are actually memorable and would talk to for fun. He loves his job and kinda cares for his students.
His class was so fun when I took it my Junior year. I admit that we had a lot of work, but the activities and the projects really made it seem fun. He's cool.
Rodriguez is alright, he's very strenuous and takes a lot out of you. I felt healthier b4 I entered his class, but without it I would've failed the A.P. Exam.
His class is really hard and frustrating at the beginning but once you get the hang of it. He makes the class interesting but he can get pretty tough.
