Had him for AP US History; it was one of the worst classes I've ever taken. He is extremely arrogant and egocentric. He spent the whole time preaching his own political views and if you disagreed with him at all he made your life hell. He is really passive aggressive. He didn't teach anything and his tests were impossible. He did not prepare us at all for the AP exam. He expected way too much and gave us absolutely no help. He never graded most of our work. He was immature and just plain mean.
Super nice and very knowledgeable but expects waaaay too much of high school students sometimes. Stresses how horrible college will be a lot which is neither a new message nor one kids need when they're taking stressful classes.
Great teacher. I took his Warfare class and is easily one of the best classes at Conard. Really gets the whole class involved in the discussion. If you enjoy history of warfare, don't hesitate to take that class. The man is like a walking encyclopedia. There isn't really much that he doesn't know. Work load is a heavy, but you won't care because of the learning that you're doing. Easily one of the best teachers at Conard. Highly recommend taking one of his classes.
Great dude and it was the first history class I enjoyed. Very knowledgeable and funny. Has a good sense of humor and a lot of patience. No nuke can hurt you as long as you got a pool.
Mr. Islaub is the best teacher I have ever met. I've never given a rating before on one of these site, but I just had to for good old chrislaub. He really is a fantastic teacher for many reasons, he is extremely knowledgeable, funny, and much more. I was lucky enough to have him two years in a row, he would get us so interested in the class we would stay after the bell rang just listening to him be passionate about the material, which then made us even more interested. Also he is a spy.
Defintly a great teacher. Very clear with his students and pushes them to succed, If you work hard in his class you wont fail, but your not guarenteed a great grade. Treated his students like adults
Hes a really good guy, you just have to give him a chance, he is very bright, but as for self-centered, hes less of an egomaniac and more of a proffessor type of teacher, he is quick and witty. He is never cruel towards his students, only if they insult him or attempt to downplay his intelligence. He treats the students like people rather then like students which if your mature enough to relate to him as a person, you'll learn tons from him. I had him for two years and he was definetley 1 of the best I had.
Classes are more difficult than those of other teachers, but manageable. Generally just talks rather than teaching, IMO. Has a self-centered approach to teaching. tends to be arrogant and a know it all. Funny, but at the expense of others. passive-aggressive, sometimes cruel, and occasionally compassionate. knows his stuff, is obviously very intelligent, but to justify the way he behaves, he'd have to be a genius. I don't think he intends to hurt people, but I don't know if he cares when he does.
Good teacher; would be great with a less self-centered approach. Definitely a know-it-all. With some justification, since he knows a ton, but sometimes takes illogical positions and acts as though they're obvious. AP Compare has lots of reading and journals, but classes are just random discussions.
I LOVE him. Very respectful to students. The work is a lot, but you learn a lot.
He really knows his shtick, and he actually makes the class fun. He also made me realize how much I need friends named Basil. I may never escape the bear though. Issy rocks.
way too much work! an essay is not just an essay to him, it's a project and more, plus you only get less than a week to do hard projects and essays that are 'creative+original) grr
Difficulty depends on the class obviously... i thought the workload was fine. On the other hand,... AWESOME GUY! Knows everything bout everything & real chill
Cannot stress the complete personal failings of this man... he lacks a soul. Thinks he is very witty/clever, but all he is is passive aggressive and horrible.
difficulty for a purpose is one thing... I was 1 of 2 students who got an a in the course and i barely learned anything. didn't like his teaching or attitude.
Amazing, I learned so much and he helped me think better. So much work? Not as much as you know who!
One of the best teachers at Conard; knows a lot about everything; cool guy; genuinely cares about people
there are mad men....and then there are mad men, he's the good kind.
He gives a lot of work, and that's why some kids don't like him, but he's really funny and very understanding if you get to know him.
hes cool even though world civ with him was terrible but u cant make it n e more intresting. american gov was cool
He wasn't very helpful but his class isn't as hard as people say
