One of the greatest qualities in a teacher is passion for his students and their success, and this man goes above and beyond to see his students thrive. The continuous vocabulary tests, grammatical worksheets, and text book use may have seemed relentless, but it ultimately paid off. His old humour and hilarious stories made the class thoroughly enjoyable and by far my favorite period. Incredible teacher with an incredible passion for teaching. If you do the work, you'll learn a lot!
Mr. Davis is a great guy who knows what he is doing. After all, he has been teaching for about 50 years. He is very helpful and explains things fairly well. Thanks to him, I actually understand grammar. He is also an avid fan of literature, and encourages all to write well. My only complaints were the workload, his digressions, and affinity to pass out tests very slowly (one by one), but I'll cut him some slack since he's retiring and had interesting stories. I recommend him and wish him well!
You may be thinking his style is boring and out of date, but this man has taught so many students for such a long time, including the famous author of the twilight series. He knows what he is doing, and is still very inspired by it after 60+ years of teaching. The things he teaches are actyally real world things you use the rest of your life
Mr. Davis is the best teacher I have ever had. You may be reluctant to learn the ins-and-outs of grammar, but it is well worth the time. I still use what I learned in Mr. Davis' class every single day. I wouldn't have been able to achieve National Merit Semifinalist standing if it wasn't for him. Put in the effort from day one and you will find great success.
If you like to mindlessly memorize 30 vocabulary words per week verbatim and the poorly formulated sample sentences/phrases that follow, complemented with a 80+ year old teacher who constantly digresses onto unrelated subjects, then this class is for you. He only grades your essays solely based upon grammatical accuracy, not creativity nor content. While he does prepare you for the PSAT/SAT, get Ms. Anderson if you can...at least you won't do the same thing in the same sequence every day.
At 15, I'd have told you that I hated diagramming all of those sentences and memorizing the definitions of 600 words verbatim. Now that I'm an attorney, I still remember those definitions ("docile - easily taught, easily lead or managed"), I still use his memorization his tools ("Say man, you crazy! Some Any Most All None"), and my grammar is so good that other lawyers ask me to edit their work. Over a decade later, I am a better attorney because of Mr. Davis. Plus, he's a hilarious human being.
I really wish I could make it clear how much he has helped me with everything. I just apreciate him so much and I wish he could be acknowledged for the outstanding way he continues to teach students every year. everyone learns so much in his class.
Mr. Davis is the best teacher I have ever had. He is one of those teachers that I will remember for completely altering my life for the better. He inspired me to become a better, more creative writer and prepared me for the PSAT/ SAT.
Mr. Davis is one of the best teachers I have had in high school. He will teach you grammar well enough to act as a substitute for studying for PSAT/SAT grammar, and also improve your writing skills. Many people find his class repetitive and uninteresting, but if you can get into it then there is quite a bit for you to gain.
Mr. Davis is by far the best English teacher I have ever had! He is extremely kind and trully loves what he does. He has been teaching for nearly 50 years. He has not retired yet because he feels his time is better spent teaching children than playing lawn games. His class can be a bit boring and tedious, but by the end of the year, you really do learn a lot! He focuses heavily on vocab to prepare you for SATs. I will miss him!
Easily one of the most frustrating teachers on campus...at his age, he should have retired by now-he doesn't explain things well, he contradicts himself constantly, and he doesn't have any appreciation for anyone who thinks differently that he does. It was an easy class, but one of the most boring and trying of the year.
Although the class seems hard and pointless at times, it's really worth it at the end. He also has the best stories. I miss him!
Me Davis was my favorite teacher this year. I did great on the PSAT becuz of him and he really encourages his students to go above and beyond. His class As
easily one of the best teachers on campus. he enjoys what he does (which explains why he's been teaching for more than 40 some years), and this class is all you'll ever need for the psats
best teacher i have every had. he deserves every teacher of the year award that could be given
Best teacher I ever had. Because of him, I have a good standing in the National Merit Semi-Finalists.
one of my favorite teachers ever, and you learn a lot
He was a very helpful and understanding teacher. It was a touch class though.
conrad deserves to be a prof somewhere. he is too smart for his sophomores. very easy class.
The best person ever! Its sad to see him stop coaching speech and debate!!!!!!!!!!! I'll miss him! Go Davey!
