His new homework policy for chem honors is really annoying
chemistry honors has not been easy for me, so I really appreciate mr. seran taking the time to explain things in more detail. It is clear that he cares about his students succeeding.
I had him for Chem H. He seemed pretty knowledgeable in the subject, but he wasn't super clear on some topics. Whenever you asked him to clarify his explanations he would sometimes get frustrated, even though the students were just trying to understand better. The tests were pretty hard and you had to self study a bit.
The beginning of Chem H can be a little intimidating at first for students since it's, for the most part, completely new material. However, after taking both honors and AP with him, it's clear that Mr. Seran cares deeply for his students and very much wants us to succeed in his class (if you're willing to do so). If you're taking chem for the first time, stick with him and things will be fine if you put in the effort. And remember to ask him questions - he knows the material extremely well!
He teaches so slow to make sure everyone understands. WE NEVER GET THROUH THE WHOLE TEXTBOOK. We are so behind from other Chemistry Honors classes. Like 2 units behind!
I definitely have a soft spot for Mr. Seran. Great guy, you can tell he really loves his job and cares about his students. If you make the effort to ask him for help he'll definitely help you out. Chem doesn't come naturally to me and I needed to put in a bit of extra work but I was able to pull an A and pass the AP test. One of the best things about his class was consistent lab work, that certainly enhanced my experience. Beware that he has a lot of students and you need to be proactive though.
Mr. Seran is really kind and generous, he wrote me a great letter of rec. I don't know what's going on with the review under mine but he's helped me out a lot for 2 years
I had Mr. Seran for Chem H and Chem AP. They weren't too hard once you got past the beginning, but the classroom environment he created was definitely one of the best. The Chem AP class was very close and comfortable with each other and him, which made learning more of a fun group effort. It was one of my favorite classes in 4 years. He's always very reasonable if you talk to him. Also's he's superrr funny. I've retained a lot of what he taught, so I definitely recommend taking both his classes.
Mr. Seran is a very nice guy, most of the time. He does occasionally get overdramatic when someone asks a question that he may have previously answered. He knows what he is talking about and talks very loudly, so that everyone can hear. However, the tests and quizzes seem much harder than what he prepares us for, and it usually require lots of work on the student's behalf to do practice problems in order to get an A.
Mr. Seran is one of the best teachers I've had in that he always wants to do what's best for his students. Neither of his classes are particularly hard, and even if you don't understand the concepts, he goes over the material carefully until you do. He's also great at explaining, and he's a really funny and kind-hearted guy. If you listen to his lectures and do the homework, which is relatively little, you will have no problem at all in his class. If you get him, you're lucky!
MR SERAN IS MY LIFE IM SO GLAD I HAVE HIM FOR A SECOND YEAR!!! everyone take ap chem :)))
I LOVE MR SERAN HE IS THE GREATEST PERSON IN THE WORLD
Mr. Seran is a great teacher. I had him for Chem H this year, and his class made me love chemistry. While chemistry is a hard, confusing subject, he is not a confusing teacher. He is strict but jokes around a lot.I put in all the work required and it became easier for me. He outlines exactly what he expects and exactly what you need to do to get an A. He's patient and understanding with people and answers their questions. He knows students are stressed and cuts down their workload. Great class.
One of the best teachers I've ever had!
Mr. Seran is a great teacher. He takes the time to make sure everyone has the opportunity to ask questions. He genuinely cares about his students. It make me sad when I see people(review 3/11) write things that are not true. I too am in Chemistry Honors this year and have had a great experience. By the way, he did not rush the unit, he reduced the number of section we were responsible for and only gave us a quiz for that unit. Thanks Mr. Seran!
I am currently enrolled in Chemistry Honors and I haven't learned anything since the second semester started. After being absent for two weeks, he made us catch up on a unit that was supposed to be 3 weeks in 1 week. He doesn't explain anything in class and expects you to read the textbook and to understand it . For labs he doesn't go over the purpose and what to do. He is very lazy and takes forever to grade things (1month for a lab).GOOD LUCK
Mr. Seran is one of the most understanding teachers ever. While his exams are hard, it is only because he truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. I have never had a teacher that wants his students to get A's so strongly. He also is very fair, will correct his errors, either in tests or in clarity. He also cares about his students and will set due dates that they feel they will be able to meet. Honestly one of my favorite teachers.
Mr. Seran is extremely clear about assignments and expectations. Homework load wise, he gives you the minimum required, but it's up to you to do more if needed. I spent a very minimal amount of time studying for the AP exam because we cover almost everything during class. He does not curve tests based on AP curves, but on the highest grades in the class, which is a helpful buffer but not so generous that you get a tad lazy in studying. He's also very willing and patient with helping people.
Pretty veg teacher, but really good preparation for really working yourself to get an A
If you want a decent score on the AP or SAT you need to study yourself. Its easy to get an A in the class if you find his tests online.
At the start of the year, I was intimidated by him. But during the year I asked him for advice, and he was very helpful. When I really needed support at the end of the year, he gave it to me. One of the best teachers at LAHS, a genuinely good person.
He cares about you doing well. He curves all his tests and will drop your lowest quiz score. He is very fair
Mr. Seran is one of the most caring, kind-hearted teachers I have ever met. He genuinly cares about his students and their well-beings and preformance in his class. Though the material he teaches is not always easy, he provides enough guidance and instruction to succeed. There is no doubt that he is well versed with the material he teaches and will provide any extra help to those that are stuggling if asked. He is truly a one of a kind teacher, and I mean that in the best way possible.
I am privileged to have been taught by Mr. Seran for both Chem H and Chem AP. Mr. Seran exemplifies the qualities of an excellent teacher, and he brings forth a positive attitude each and everyday. It's not only the material he teaches well, but also life skills. For example, if a student ever does poorly on an exam, Mr. Seran will give them valuable advice on how they can respond with better test preparation. This, along with other essential tips, are skills that students can use beyond school.
I am currently in AP Chemistry and I managed to pull out an A, but it was not easy. Chemistry is a hard and new topic to most and Mr. Seran recognizes that and is therefore very considerate towards his students and respects what they have to say. He is one of the fairest teachers I've ever had and never doubts a students learning capability, which is what encourages them to be successful in that class. I highly recommend chemistry honors and AP as it is one of my favorite classes.
Mr. Seran is a fair teacher. If you spend an hour each day on Chemistry just like he asks you to, you will get a good grade in his class. He's very knowledgeable, so don't feel scared to ask him a question.
While he can be difficult at the beginning of the year, you do get acclimatized to him. At first, the class was very difficult, but it is NECESSARY for you to put the time in. If you put the time in, he'll meet you half way and if you ever have any questions he'll answer in great detail. Very knowledgeable about chemistry!
Just get on his good side and you won't have problems. If you put the effort in, it's worth it. He's a very knowledgeable teacher without a doubt, and he's always willing to go over things and clarify stuff the textbook is really unclear about. I like him, but he's not for everyone I guess.
Mr Seran is either the Antichrist or the best teacher you've had in a while. If you are the type of person who enjoys learning in class you will be disappointed when he stops teaching after the first semester. However, he actually gives many amenities to students to compensate for his lack of actual teaching, such amenities include, giving us the test questions, telling us similar problems to those that are on the test etc. Beware though, he does like to run psychological experiments
The class isn't easy, but it isn't that hard either. If you ask him to explain something, he will explain it very clearly. But you need to ask. He knows what he's talking about, and though he may seem strict at first, he will later relax, and it'll be a fun class. He also tells some crazy stories. Ask him about his brother and the criss-cross.
He is very good at explaining things to the class, but often he will assign homework, which no on will understand and THEN after everyone did the homework wrong, he will have a lecture on the subject and everyone will get it but it's just to bad it was one day late!
| You there, 1/29. Yeah, you. He gave you the freaking test. What more do you want? | | | | | | V
Great class! Tests are graded easily and he's great at explaining. Even though its not hard to get an A, you learn A LOT.
He's a pretty good teacher. As long as you study, his class isn't too hard, he's helpful, and his explanations make quite a bit of sense. He also knows quite a bit about chemistry, considering he publ
He recently got a new book, and the class is a lot harder now. However, this year (2011) he has done a really good job of explaining things. The class is hard and fast paced but I'm enjoying it. He d
I appreciated that he expected a lot from me. The class was hard, but he made a real effort to help me
What a wonderful teacher. I have never had a teacher that cared so much for me as a person. His teaching is good and gives a lot of examples that help us understand the hard concepts. Take His Class!
What are these people thinking. He is the best teacher. He cares about his students and takes lots of time to explain stuff.
one of the worst teacher i have had. makes u feel bad if u ask a question and has an awful sense of humour. also extremely unfair and doesnt teach
Mr Seran is awsome. His lectures are very helpful and he gives us a lot of chances to fix our grades. I am very much looking forward to Chem AP next year.
his class was pretty hard and very fast-paced. he didn't have any sympathy if you fall behind. he does offer a lot of extra help, though.
HE HAD GOTTA BE THE BEST AP TEACHER!!! funny to u, and u can be funny back to him. talks and teaches you like an equal...just loved last years ap chem
only a few busy work projects. clear lectures when needed. makes sure everyone understands whats going on and wants u to ask him questions.same routine everyday
Couldn't ask for anyone better to teach chem. Thanks for everything Mr. Seran!!!
With such a hard subject matter, Mr. Seran is great at teaching it. A+ Mr. Seran
