Licata is a guy who expects that all of his students thinks just like him (and his constant jokes suck). He assumes his students have the mind of a 50-year old, and not a teenager. This really sets him apart from good teachers, because good teachers understand how you think, and Licata doesn't.
I love him! Easily one of my most favorite teachers- I'm surprised at all of these negative reviews because everyone I know loves him as well.
Best Advisor to have always wants to do something creative or fun. He talks about his tea a lot which is cool. If you meet with him, it is a guarantee you will obtain an A in his class. NT'19
This guy is pretty boring, his political views are extremely infused in everything he teaches, and refuses to allowed other viewpoints to be spoken about. He also is not very friendly.
Mr. Licata is not everyone's cup of tea. He pushes his students and expects them to go above and beyond the normal English student. He is one of the best teachers I had ever had. His teaching style is definitely unique but it made me a better writer/analytical reader.
Cool I guess, I mean he is ok.
I agree that he changes the way he says things when you ask him questions but once your figure it out he is just trying to say the same thing with different words so we can understand. the class is hard, but i did lots better after i realized i had to read every night.
This guy's communication skills are limited at best. If you ask him the same question twice, you will get two different answers depending on what is most convenient for him at the time. He treats, what could be a mind-expanding learning experience in the arts, as though it is a black/white subject. There is nothing left open to any interpretation except for HIS interpretation of the the piece of literature or poetry. Unfortunate that he is in this position. So sorry we are in this class.
You may think he is very hard, which he is, but u just have to pay attention and be ready for him to call on u at any time, he is a great guy with an AWSOME personality, he has extremely hard tests and quizzes, he is great but he grading needs work
interesting guy... his class was really hard but i learned a lot
He is not as bad as people say but I agree with the parts that he rants. I think he just wants to get us excited about the books though.
Mr. Licata is not helpful and the only way to get an A is to read his mind. He expects students to be able to write at a senior level on their very first paper and will take 15-20% off for little things like missing 2 commas in an essay. If you have him, we pity you.
He is frustrating,a dn he doesn't explain his assignments at all clearly. Totally plays favorites. Doesn't really answer questions
i agree. the pop quizzes are a pain but if you read than they are not so bad. they're easy grades. on essays he grades hard but fair
have fun. go see him outside of class for additional assistance on essays. also, read the books!!! he always suprises us with a pop quiz
If you have an expansive vocabulary, don't use it; he became somewhat self-conscious after reading one of my essays. He doesn't really have favorites, since two people received A-s over the course of the year. Overall, if you think that he likes you, you're probably incorrect.
He really likes dennotating and connotating and getting into the text, if you do that in class and in your essays you will do well. He also asks about really specific things on the quizzes.
he's a good guy, but he grades so hard and he gets angry easily and did i mention he grades ridiculously hard?
Mr. Licata was an awesome advisor and a great teacher. He can be stern, but he is always available to work with you. Licata '05!
I love it when he get's all excited over books.... but I hate how expects for people to keep track of their own grades!
Bad teaching methods and why does he give back grades on test/quizzes/hw/papers like a month after turning them in....not so helpful with progress reports too...
He knows his material and encourages lots of discussion. I like the fact that he lets us do rewrites!
I find him to be quite accessible. His office door is always open. Who wouldn't expect a student to keep track of his grades?
He is a useless teacher, contradictory, often factually incorrect, and he insults his students. he refuses to tell you your grades expects you to know your grade but returns assiangments when "he feels like it" does not explain methods of grading (afwul)
He's VERY passionate about what he does, which makes him a good teacher, but he seems distant from his students, but he cares about the class as a whole
I was a student of his at DGN, learn what you can from this man, he is a genius!!!
He may not be the best teacher, but he's a great coach.:)
