Honorable human. Best teacher I have had, hands down and I have had a lotttt of teachers/professors. Friends and I still talk about how fantastic he is to this day -- and I had him 5-6 years ago. He pushed me to do my best as a writer, a student, and a person. (How's that three idea sentence for you exBaldwin-ers?) Rhetoric is a skill you will always need. This man will teach you how to life.
If you are reading this and you have (or are going to take) his class, I envy you. His, is a tough class, to be sure, but he is best teacher I have ever met. You meet such a teacher only once in your lifetime, and then, only if you are lucky. I am forever grateful for the insight I gleaned from his class. Forever in debt for showing me the power of the written word. I know of no one who does not feel the same.
I took his AP English class over 8 years ago and I can say that he was hands down the best teacher I've ever had. Mr. Baldwin challenged me when school wasn't challenging enough and set realistic but difficult goals. He made me believe in hard work. As a law student, I can truly say that Mr. Baldwin helped me improve my writing skills.
I took his class ~10 years ago and I'll never stop being grateful for it. I've had MANY professors since then. All have been impressed with a writing style that comes naturally now. They won't teach you how to write well in college, but they'll expect it of you, and Mr. Baldwin knows this. He's not full of himself nor difficult, rather he's gifting you the talent to express your ideas clearly in the future when, hopefully, you have ideas worth sharing. I'd appreciate his faith in your potential.
I'm in SUNY Geneseo right now, and even though I scored well enough on the AP exam to receive credit, I decided to take its writing class anyways. This man really prepared me for this class! I easily got an A on my reading responses. College is nothing compared to his class.
One of the best teachers ever! If you're passionate about English you will strive and he will teach you A LOT. Trust me, I'm so grateful for having him and he's a really nice person. You just have to work hard and be disciplined. Mr. Baldwin is willing to work with you after school so you have no excuse of doing poorly in his class. Try not to procrastinate and the work won't get you too stressed. The reason why people claim he's so hard is because they begin work the night before.
Mr.Baldwin has truly changed my life. Believe me, there is not a single teacher in the entire universe who cares more about their students than Baldwin. I could write a 4 page essay on why he deserves the Best Teacher of the World award. He's pretty hard, strict, but everything he teaches you, you will never regret learning. He knows what he's doing, and he's getting you prepared for what's out there. I truly love this man. And even if students do bad in his class, everyone respects him.
This guy is probably one of the smartest people in Tech. I had him for AP english language. if you work hard, you can get a good grade in his class. I ended up with a 92. Pay attention and you're good. you'll learn a lot about life in general in his class, not just about writing essays, which is awesome.
I had Baldwin this year and he's an amazing teacher! The only problem is that I could never predict what grade I would get for a paper. For some reason all the papers I wrote in one night with little or no sleep got 90+ grades, while the papers I wrote weeks in advance got 75/85... Haha, it's strange...
He's a very Good teacher... Funny and knows his stuff... You're screwed if you procrastinate though!
Very smart and very clear. He has patients to certain degree. Will make you work and if you do, you will improve. If you don't, you will fail. In the long run, he is worth the hard work, I think.
Tough grader, but I promise, you will become a better writer if you put some effort into his class.
Tough grader, but I promise, you will become a better writer if you put some effort into his class.
He's a cool guy but he's not open-minded so whatever he says goes.
Mr. Baldwin was by far the best english teacher I have ever had. I am a junior in college and had him my junior year in tech and i still use his "Write Stuff" to guide me.
he's a great teacher and one of the few who actually teaches. but he's stubborn. he never admits what he said before. i have a hard time communicating with him.
Why do people like him so much? I don't understand why, but I don't like him. Yes, it is true that he prepares well for us to college but I take he expects too much from us. We have other AP and other classes that we deal with. Also, he gives us such late notices when he sends the email out to us. His class seems like it will not end forever. Overall, he is just a difficult teacher who pressured students too much!
He's amazing. Learn from him. You will never have another teacher like him, ever again. He writes the best college recs and gave me a hug when he gave them to me. Nearly cried because I realized I'd miss him so much.
The treasure of Tech and the envy of other teachers. Very intelligent and dedicated man – you won't meet a professor that works harder in your life. Ignore the comments of him being condescending and biased – those are groundless accusations. I've disagreed with him on many counts and he always wrote “Not what I had in mind, but you explained it well†and gave me full credit. He's passionate, and you'll have some very memorable lessons. You'll learn an incredible amount if you're open-mi
In the words of Mr. Baldwin, "Be simple," and so I shall be. I worship this guy.
With no doubt, he is hardworking and he does try to be a good teacher. However, he just overworks the kids. We have other classes, do you know that Baldwin if you see this. Everyone knows about Baldwin Thursdays, even you. If you know that, then why not lessen the work and cope with us? He favors some of his students a lot and others he don't seem to care about. Sorry, Baldwin, but I can't say that you are a good teacher.
Baldwin's class isn't as hard as most people say it is. The people who do badly are the ones who procrastinate all the time. He is truly an excellent and dedicated teacher, and he expects his students to take his class seriously. But if you manage your time properly, you'll do fine in his class.
Mr. Baldwin is a very fair teacher. He is absolutely the BEST in AP English Language. I had him in the 2007-08 year and he is still one of my favorite teachers. I LOVE MR. D-BALD. He challenges his students and helps them to become better writers and overall more knowledgable people. He breaks the scale. Absolutely the best.
Expect his class to be hard. If you choose to procrasinate, you'll only end up hurting your grade. I believe that he is too harsh of a grader and that he gives too many assignments. Well, he's an awesome teacher and all, but the workload is way too big. He should tone it down a bit because juniors have other classes as well.
It's a shame that most teachers aren't as dedicated as Mr. Baldwin. His class is one of the only ones where you will actually learn something.
Not only one of the best teachers in the english department but possibly one of the best teachers in the school. Mr.Baldwin knows exactly what he's doing and the course work is not as hard as people make it out to be. All of the works you do in his class will not only help you write but look at life differently. In his class you don't just do assignments, you learn. As for his system of grading, it's very fair. All you have to do is earn your grades.
probably one of the best teachers in the department. he's not as hard as everyone says if they only didn't cram. a very respectable man, and i probably would never experience the lovely Thursday night into Friday morning again. Can't say I'll miss it though.
The most amazing teacher that Brooklyn Tech has to offer. He puts an incredible amount of effort into his class, and his students are incredibly lucky to have him. If you really apply yourself, you will come out with more from his class than from any other. He's a fantastic teacher and a very respectable person.
He's a respectable man. He's one of the few teachers that know what they are talking about. However, his class is hard and you definitely have to earn your grade. I learned a lot from him and really enjoyed his class. I've never worked as hard in any other class. He made me feel proud of my work and really does care about his students. A wise wise man that I had the pleasure of meeting.
He's an awesome teacher and his class wouldn't be half as hard if everyone just did what they're supposed to do. One of the most amazing and respectable person I've ever met. I Love You Mr.Baldwin! (As crazy as it sounds, I think I'm going to miss the Baldwin Thrusdays)
Mr. Baldwin's class isn't as hard as it seems, or as hard as past and current students make it out to be. I learned more in this one English class than in any other class I've ever taken. The only thing you have to worry about is procrastination. Procrastinate, and you will do poorly. He does not assign much work at all; the amount of work he does assign, however, is very reasonable, given that it is an AP class. Other than dealing with diagramming, you'll enjoy his class (and even the work).
more work than I can handle sometimes, but you have to give the guy credit, he works like a dog, and he really cares about his subject and his students.
Baldwin Thursdays…. Baldwin Thursdays… a great teacher – love his class but the workload is tremendous.
i seriously have to hold down my pants not to **** on myself everytime i see him. the most intimidating teacher. ever. cant believe i survived his class. knows a lot about english and passionate about it too but please, for future reference, dont yell and stop making condescending comments on students papers..
He wasn't easy in that he wouldn't give you a good grade if you obviously didn't try, but he is the greatest english teacher I've ever had. I'll always have good memmories of his class. Mr. Baldwin is always there for his students, he's a really great teacher.
In the beginning of the year, I dreaded his class. I had really low grades on his essays and he gave soo much work every marking period. But now that I think about it, I really liked him as a teacher. The class discussions were very interesting and I really learned a lot from this class. The diagramming seemed pointless at first, but it helped me a lot on SATs
Baldwin is honestly a great teacher. As much effort as he puts into his job, he expects the same from you. I don't have the best grades in his class (I'm a failure in diagramming), but there's nothing negative to say about him. Great guy, very open minded and very respectable. Any Baldwin student knows what a 'Baldwin Thursday' is!
Baldwin is a great teacher. As a student, your progress, is his one and only priority in his class. Trust me, don't be discouraged by him or shy in his presence, he loves to listen to what everyone has to say. He respects his students and imo is the most respected person in the entire building. He deserves it, he provides for his students what most other tech teachers can't even fathom. Great guy,
Mr. Baldwin is an awesome teacher. Though he may be tough with his essays and work, his class is still amazing. Everything he talks about is interesting. I didn't do that well on the AP but that's cuz I'm not that good at English, but his class was still awesome. He's very committed and dedicated to helping his students; he always has everything organized and everything to go. I regret not being able to do better on the AP cuz he really did teacher me a lot and I am thankful for that.
yo, he just hates my writing... nothing more to say.
he has GOT to stop picking on students he doesnt like just because he doesnt like them! he cracks awkward jokes no one gets and he is SOOO biased. his diagramming is pointless. seriously, he has to learn how to help students who need help, not the ones that has stellar grades. he bases your skills stereotypically. if he doesnt like you, sorry, he will never like you.
He has a firm grasp of the English Language. If you are in his class, consider yourself blessed, praise be to Allah
Excellent teacher. Funny, with some very cool opinions and insights. I got a 5 on my AP Exam and I left his class with knowledge about English I don't think I would have picked up from any other teacher.Go Mr.Baldwin!!! =D
He definitely works you very hard, but for a good reason. I did not study at all for the AP exam, but did very well just by attending his class. You won't realize how amazing he is until you have a new teacher. Overall, he's an understanding teacher and a cool guy all around. I love him.
Depending on the day, I either really loved or really hated Mr. Baldwin. Sometimes, the course as a WHOLE would screw up an assignment, and blamed it on us rather than miscommunication. Sometimes he is extremely redundant, but that makes you remember everything! I didn't get a 5, but I don't blame him as much as I blame the lack of knowledge of what is asked on the test-we spent too much time on irrelivant topics, but I learned a heck-of-a-lot of English! He's generally an understanding man.
Chances are you won't get the best grade in his class, but you will learn a ton. Sometimes people need to realize that the primary reason you go to school is to learn, not to admire fancy numbers on your report card. That said, I didn't get a good grade, but looking back I think he was the most helpful teacher I had in high school. He is very concise and is not afraid to point out your errors. For the most part, introductory college writing will be a joke after taking him. Just bear with it
Jumped 120 points on the verbal portion of the SAT after having his class.
But, seriously, he'll work your butt off but you'll be a better student for it. 'cept the sentence diagrams. Those never struck me as particularly useful. >.>
This was the hardest classs I've had, and there were days when I would hope he would take a day off, but, I have to say, I've learned more this year than I have in any other english class, and he works ever harder than his students. He is a great teacher and I will remember him for the rest of my life. When I'm talking to my grandchildren, I'll say, "you think you have a hard teacher, why when I was at Tech there was an english teacher named Baldwin...:)"
I think he's GREAT...u kno a teacher is great when he fails u (with good reason) and u still love him
Very good teacher, and grades fairly and truthfully.
sometimes he scares me and the fact that he cares makes you feel worse if you mess up. He's somewhat intimidating but really smart and clever. Gives good advice
This guy is soo the best teach ever, the exam would be soo hard if he wasnt there to help me
Mr. Baldwin's class is responsible for some of the best writing i've ever done. I loved his class and regretably i didnt take full advantage. His grammer lessons are helpful for SATs, and even French.
One of a kind. Mr. Baldwin's class was my favorite ate Tech. His lessons on literature, grammer, and even life have helped me to become a better person. I'll miss him so much. I was lucky to have him.
he's an awesome teacher. if you work hard and pay attention, it's an easy and fun class (although some will disagree with me) you will come out knowing a lot more about english.
One of the best english teachers that i have ever had. Funny, helpful and dedicated. Its easy to get 85+ in his class if you pay attention and work hard
Awesome, cool guy. Wouldn't have passed the exams with any other teacher.
Great teatcher, even if he's sometimes a little speed
i agree- legend. i think overall english teachers in tech are actuallypretty good, but he just goes over the top to teach you starting from the basics so you have no excuse. awesome guy
Great teacher even though i failed. He was funny intelligent and charismatic. He actually cared for the students and tried to helped us out which was nice even though i was a lost cause.Which i regret.
wonderful teacher. i learned the most english in one year than ive learned in a lifetime.
his english staranards are so good that he sould become a professer in the english language and given 2 billion pounds as a reward (joke)
He might be hard at first, but about a year after you have him you'll realize just how helpful all his work was. Keep that in mind
only a few teachers are really good in thier subject as he is. awesome teacher.
He may seem very hard at times but it is worth it. You eventually learn a lot from him, especially when he teaches grammar. It's really helpful for the SATs.
the only good english teacher i've had so far, hes amazing. most of the people that dislike him are those that dont do his work, or do it wrong and are too stubborn to open up to his methods.
very organized and unselfish. ive ofcourse read his 'write stuff' and i quite enjoyed the parts with a few of his stories buried inside. i think he should write a story for the students. i love reading his work.
Probably my favorite teacher at tech. Sure the essays may seem tedious, but just imagine all the effort that must be put forth on his part just to grade all of them. He is very pratictal, and majority of the things he teachers will eventually be essential later in life (I wish I can say that about all the teachers). Trust me on this one
I like his aggressive style of teaching and controlling the class
great teacher and loves the houston astros! go stros!
I am in love with this man. I graduated from tech in '04 and had him sophomore year for honors english. I can honestly say that 90% of my writing abilities were developed in his class. Even though at the time writing a paper a week seemed like a burden, I now grateful that he pushed us beyond our supposed limits. Also, his review of the english grammar was helpful since many teachers do not bother to go over such an essential part of good writing.
Mr. Baldwin is the greatest english teacher at tech. I can look back with very fond memories of him. If you listen to him and take his advice, your writing will improve drastically. He's really a fantastic man.
I'm so proud of him for talking out about the administration. All is wants is what is best for all us and he is putting his life on the line because McCaskill and his rabid AP are pure evil.
Mr. Baldwin is the best teacher I've ever had. I can not believe what is going on at Tech. What a shame. I can not imagine ever having a better teacher at Tech. This administration should be ashamed of themselves, everything you do should come back to you, double. Then there would be justice.
Mr. Baldwin is very strict and expects only the best from his students, yet he is a great English teacher. Now that I'm in College, I truly appreciate the standards he made the class rise to. I still have "The Write Stuff" and sometimes refer to it. He assigned many essays, but there is no point in coming to Tech if you aren't going to work hard. A valuable asset to the school!
He is VERy strict, but he teaches English the wya it is meant to be taught. Just do the essays well. Most people complain about his essays, but they arent that bad.
