A non-teacher. Does not believe first year students should speak in class. Does not acknowledge/answer parent emails or phone calls when your child is struggling due to his incompetence as a teacher. Had to spend hundreds of dollars on a tutor for my child to get through this class. Gave up on VHS's Spanish department after this teacher.
He is such a nice guy but you do not learn anything in his class. Sad but true. Get into Macias, she is the best Spanish teacher on campus.
Mr. David Duncan is an Amazing teacher. I am shocked to see the reviews because Duncan always gave us an example of whats going to be on the exam and he actually taught us how to take exams. Most people dont know their is a science to taking exams. Mr. Duncan taught Spanish but taught us about not giving up, gave us lectures that would help us be a better student and also a better person. So when he gives those lectures, listen because there is a point.
Mr duncan is a good guy, but one of the worst teachers out there. He can not teach for anything. He expects kids who dont know any Spanish to pass his tests. He does not teach, he only takes about his past life. I do not recommend him, his finals are also extremely hard and one of the most difficult. He is useless.... All in all, nice guy, bad teacher
Really a nice guy, not a great Spanish teacher.
Man, I remember this class. He gave the worst lecture. He talked about his childhood half of the time. And its just unnecessary. He made the test harder by putting free response question that wasn't really Spanish 1 material. but he's pretty chill but other than that, not a great teacher
The absolute worse teacher you can have. His final is 250 questions and he has no idea how to teach. He just tells you about his life, and gives you quizzes almost everyday. You have to teach yourself the lessons if you want an A in the class. Just the worst teacher at Valencia he should be fired. SWITCH OUT!!!
SWITCH OUT IMMEDITALLY
During the first few days he seems like a fun teacher but all we did in his class was 1 or 2 activities and the rest of the class was him talking about the importance of studying and getting a collage education, also in all of my classes I have never gotten lower than a B- as a semester grade it was in his class that I got my first and only C as a final grade.
Big waste of time. Doesnt teach jack squat and wastes time telling random stories or doing the stupid translation warmup that no one does. Also we check the hw ourselves so its easy to give urself free points but it hurts u when the test comes around. He never actually gives notes so u have to end up teaching yourself every lesson, rule, etc. very confusing with how he explains things. Switch if u ever get him i regret Not switching after seeing these reviews... The low star ones are true...
Duncan is a really nice guy but in his class, your basically teaching yourself Spanish. He goes off topic so much like the first day of school we spend half the period comparing the US and England. What does crumpets have anything to do with Spanish. At least talk about burritos.
Duncan is probably the worst teacher I've ever had. All he does is talk about himself and is constantly off topic. I despise his method of "teaching" and am basically teaching myself in his class. I'm taking Spanish to actually be taught and to learn the language, not hear about his life stories!
Cannot teach, all he does in class is talk about his life story when he's not as singing homework you have to teach yourself to do...HE THINKS HE IS A DRAGON
I learned nothing and he made me feel really uncomfortable.
I had Duncan for my very first semester of spanish. He doesn't know how to teach... at all! I'm not a lazy student and somehow I managed to get a B, but I came out of the class knowing only what I was able to teach myself from the textbook. Going into my second semester with a good teacher was pretty difficult because I had to catch up due to Mr. Duncan not teaching anything. That class was basically a free period since he never did anything except for tell us his life stories.
study his "IDEAs" more than the book. that is what can really mess up your grade.. and if you don't know other spanish teachers, get to know them cuz they are what helped me learn practically everything
BAD TEACHER...........he does not know how to explain, He makes us teach all the lessons on our own. I dont think teaching is for him
Mr. Duncan's Spanish 1A class is very challenging for a beginning Spanish class. It is not difficult because of the material, but because he does no teach the class properly. The entire year consists solely on worksheets and no lectures, not to mention the hard tests that follow. You are pretty much teaching yourself in this class.
He didn't teach. Period. If you need instruction to learn, this is NOT the teacher for you!
he is a good person but a terrible teacher. I barely learned any spanish in his classbut alot of other stuff about the world and brain random stuff like that because he will get off topic and talk about things that have nothing to do with spanish
He's really nice and cool but many times in my class, his teaching is off topic.
Mr. Duncan is a great guy but not a good teacher. It is difficult to learn with him because he hardly teaches.
mr. duncan isn't the best spanish teacher but he's good. the reason why so many people have a hard time is because they're lazy. he has a great sense of humor and he's really nice.
he is a terrible teacher but a good guy. i would much rather have him as a neighbor than as a teacher. if you do the IDEAS and actually try then youre going to do fine
12/15/10 Pull your head out of your lazy cry baby world. Just study the Daily Oral IDEAS and you'll do fine in the class. His final came almost entirely from it. Good grief ... you had the exact quest
I got an A. Anybody can say anything? With no fears? If this is actually monitored these comments will be removed. Haters have a new forum. Sign me up. Get to know people before judging them.
he doesnt teach or it seems that he doesnt know how to. if valencia high really cares about our education, they should fire him because he brings us down
Mr. Duncan is a cool guy, but a terrible teacher. His midterm/final is nearly impossible. I know he knows a lot about Spanish, but he has trouble being able to teach it.
he is cool and all but i truly dont understand how you make the actual hw questions worth points when thats when you are suppose to make mistakes and learn what your doing wrong
Don't listen to the hype he's really easy. I never payed attention and don't know anything about Spanish and still got a b+ in his class. Be happy ifyou got him and **** up. He likes that
had to teach myself seeing as he didnt teach us one bit! got a B but it was really difficult
Mr. Duncan is a pretty cool teacher. He's not strict or anything, he just makes hard midterms and finals. It was easy to get an A in his class.
i did not learn one thing in this class. he talks about random things that have nothing to do with spanish. he makes every spanish lesson more confusing. you get over an hour of hwk every day.
The last two years I've had him he's been difficult, but if you're willing to learn there's no-one better on campus. The only people who don't like him are the lazy coasters.
The final and midterm is soooo hard. Probably the worst Spanish teacher and he doesn't even teach the things he expects you to get tested on.
Worst Spanish teacher I've ever had. Unless you're extremely devoted and willing, it'll be hard to ace this class easily.
he doesn't teach at all and i didn't learn any spanish.
Without a doubt the worst spanish teacher i've ever had.
I've only had him as a sub., but he really talks too much. He spends too much time like he's trying to show off his knowledge of trivial things.
He spends 95% of the period off topic and sometimes inappropriate topics.
Mr. Duncan was the only Spanish teacher I ever had who actually succeeded in teaching me Spanish. He was always incredibly helpful and made the material easy to understand.
Was the hardest spanish teacher I had. Macias is so much better. He teaches as if you already know spanish- but if I knew it I wouldnt be taking the class.
