A non-teacher. Does not believe first year students should speak in class. Does not acknowledge/answer parent emails or phone calls when your child is struggling due to his incompetence as a teacher. Had to spend hundreds of dollars on a tutor for my child to get through this class. Gave up on VHS's Spanish department after this teacher.

He is such a nice guy but you do not learn anything in his class. Sad but true. Get into Macias, she is the best Spanish teacher on campus.

Mr. David Duncan is an Amazing teacher. I am shocked to see the reviews because Duncan always gave us an example of whats going to be on the exam and he actually taught us how to take exams. Most people dont know their is a science to taking exams. Mr. Duncan taught Spanish but taught us about not giving up, gave us lectures that would help us be a better student and also a better person. So when he gives those lectures, listen because there is a point.

Mr duncan is a good guy, but one of the worst teachers out there. He can not teach for anything. He expects kids who dont know any Spanish to pass his tests. He does not teach, he only takes about his past life. I do not recommend him, his finals are also extremely hard and one of the most difficult. He is useless.... All in all, nice guy, bad teacher

Switch out. You do not want to be stuck in this class. He just give "life lessons" all class and doesn't even bother to actually teach Spanish

Had him for Spanish 1 and Spanish 3, NO DIFFERENCE. All you do in class is literally just sit there and listen to him talk. Such a waste of time. The activities that he assigns are pointless and useless. If he actually just taught the class, I'd give him maybe 2 stars. When he does teach, it's bad.
If you see Duncan on your schedule, switch out immediately.

During the first few days he seems like a fun teacher but all we did in his class was 1 or 2 activities and the rest of the class was him talking about the importance of studying and getting a collage education, also in all of my classes I have never gotten lower than a B- as a semester grade it was in his class that I got my first and only C as a final grade.

Duncan is a really nice guy but in his class, your basically teaching yourself Spanish. He goes off topic so much like the first day of school we spend half the period comparing the US and England. What does crumpets have anything to do with Spanish. At least talk about burritos.

Duncan is probably the worst teacher I've ever had. All he does is talk about himself and is constantly off topic. I despise his method of "teaching" and am basically teaching myself in his class. I'm taking Spanish to actually be taught and to learn the language, not hear about his life stories!

I had Duncan for my very first semester of spanish. He doesn't know how to teach... at all! I'm not a lazy student and somehow I managed to get a B, but I came out of the class knowing only what I was able to teach myself from the textbook. Going into my second semester with a good teacher was pretty difficult because I had to catch up due to Mr. Duncan not teaching anything. That class was basically a free period since he never did anything except for tell us his life stories.

study his "IDEAs" more than the book. that is what can really mess up your grade.. and if you don't know other spanish teachers, get to know them cuz they are what helped me learn practically everything

Mr. Duncan's Spanish 1A class is very challenging for a beginning Spanish class. It is not difficult because of the material, but because he does no teach the class properly. The entire year consists solely on worksheets and no lectures, not to mention the hard tests that follow. You are pretty much teaching yourself in this class.
