I think Fleischman is underrated. The class itself is fairly easy and homework is rare. He is quite traditional and you won't be using much "technology" but the class is certainly not boring. He likes to be interactive and often uses fun props and demonstrations to help you with physics concepts. He is very humorous and always fits a nice joke or two between explaining things. I definitely look forward to his class every time (except for quiz days xD). Study for the tests and you'll do well!
Great Teacher. You will have to self study for to really understand the material, but he explains everything really well and always helps if you have any questions.
Mr. Fleischman is a hilarious teacher who made Physics 1 extremely fun. His anecdotes are golden and he makes everyone laugh during class. Unlike what people said in some of the comments below, his quizzes are not difficult at all if you study and do the recommended practice problems. One disadvantage is that he doesn't do the best job in teaching to the new AP exam, as the test is mainly comprised of concepts and Fleischman teaches the math. Overall, 12/10 teacher; you'll be lucky to get him.
Very traditional, very organised teacher. Tries to model after Harvie somewhat but bases lectures more on information. If his teaching style doesn't work for you, drop the class because you won't do well. If it doesn't work for you and you still want to learn physics, move up to Harvie's class. He will teach you everything you need to know so long as you are willing to work. Fleisch's class is reasonably difficult for the subject, just don't get on his bad side. He likes quiet, industrious types
The 2 main physics teachers at TP are Harvie and Fleischman. With physics, Harvie definitely is more knowledgable and can teach better, but you will learn more about it from Fleischman. Why? Fleischman actually assigns difficult homework problems along with giving much more difficult test questions. But as a person, Harvie > Fleischman all the way. If I can give one piece of advice to anyone who gets Fleischman, never argue with him. The treatment between his good/bad side is awfully different.
He is a terrible teacher. The quizzes are very difficult and he ends up telling you things right before because he forgot to tell you before. He stands at the chalkboard and just rambles and gives bad example problems. He kind of favors white people which personally annoys me and lectures about service academies for about 10 hours each week. Pls pray you get harvie.
I had Mr. Flieshman last year and he is a great teacher. He teaches the most material, with excellent organization, and does a superb job of preparing the AP test (got a 5 myself). Not to mention, his sense of hilarious humor. Though I confess his tests are hard, the satisfaction from correctly solving his problems is best expressed by having rainbows fall from the sky as unicorns fly to the moon. But jokes aside, as long as you're willing to learn, Fleishchman will satiate your physics desires!
As some of the posts said below, if you can self-study and learn the material yourself, then his class will be a breeze because homework is rarely assigned. However if your looking for a class which will guide you step by step into physics B...your screwed. Regarding the AP exam, his class doesn't really prepare you (he NEVER prepares you for the multiple choice section of the AP exam..which is about 50% of your score.
I love Mr. Fleischman! Definitely one of the greatest teachers in Torrey Pines. Some people whine about how his quiz problems are very difficult. To me, these problems really push students' limits and give them opportunities to encounter such brain-strengthening problems. Although it might seem nearly impossible to get a perfect 100 on his quizzes, he still gives LOTS of partial credits for showing your work and attempting to solve the problems. His guest speakers are awesome too!Fleischman ftw!
He is a great teacher and prepares you for the AP test very well. Quizzes are really hard if you dont study.
I had Fleischman last year and he teaches the material very well. Anyone who says hes a bad teacher isn't ready for physics he may not be as knowledgeable as Harvie, but he still prepared me well enough to get a 5 on the AP test and I did very little outside studying. There is little homework, and if you pay attention in class, and do the work, very little studying is required to do well.
If you can understand the physics on your own, his class is really fun. Mr. Fleischman is a great person but not the best teacher, his quizzes are significantly more difficult than Harvie's.
Not as hard as everyone makes him out to be. If you actually understand physics: You'll enjoy his class and learn quite a bit and find his class isn't too tough. If you're the type of person who memorizes how to do certain types of problems and reproduces them exactly, you'll struggle. Since I'm more of a conceptual person and poor at memorizing, I find him to be great teacher.
He's a great teacher! A lot of people don't like him just because his tests are really hard but he really is a great guy and will help you a lot if you approach him. He's really funny too
I don't think he's a bad teacher, its just that he rushes through a lot of important things. He also makes the class based on the AP Test, which I think shouldn't be the main focus of the class. We should be learning Physics! Not test taking skills.
Ugh... Fleischman is just a bad teacher. He doesn't explain things well and his tests and quizes are incredibly difficult. And the questions he puts on them are usually things never shown us before.
Possibly one of the worst teachers I have ever had. The only reason why he can teach physics is because he takes everything from Harvey, who is a real physics teacher. The questions on his test are never what we learn in class. And when he asks the class questions, he only accepts answers from people he likes. When you answer it correctly if he doesnt like you, he just ignores you until someone else says the same exact thing, then praises them.
I've heard many horrible stories about him before i came into class. but so far, its been a fun, productive class for me. the materials are easy and he teaches it clearly for us to understand easily. Also on every quiz, he looks at your work and not your answer.. so you'll get a lot of partial credit. Very easy class, barely any homework. His character's good too. He's very nice, though he may look really scary, and has a good sense of humor. But kinda boring.. you need fun classmates.
funny teacher! really nice and there is no hw but his tests are hard. must study for tests the day before!
He's a kind hearted man, but his class is completely pointless. He has taught the class so many times he does it by memorization and therefore gets frustrated when anyone asks questions since he fails at answering them.
A great guy, but not really that great of a teacher. Really hard.
Not a great teacher. Try not to ask questions, because they will go unanswered. Good guy though.
Ineffective teacher. Teaching Harvie's class... minus Harvie.
Oh fleischy, one in a million. Runs over the topics too fast but if you actually do work in class you should do fine. This class doesn't prepare you for the AP test. He teaches the math behind it but often forgets about the concepts which are 1/2 of the AP test.
Doesn't really teach, just copys harvies notes on the board, but hes cool and will try to help you the best he can, gives interesting lectures that can keep you entertained, at least for a while. you can get an a in the class just by doing ur hw and gettinc a C average on the tests. FUN CLASS GO TP PHYSICS!
nothing too hard. if you're smart enough you can actually figure out on your own the things he doesnt bother explaining. nice teacher but a bit hypocritical.
impossible to actually learn physics in his class. the material that is covered is too important and gone over too quickly, you have to rely on the posters without really understanding anything
no homework ever. nice guy but i didnt learn anything
He's a good teacher, but his classes are verrrrryyyy boring. When class starts, that's when class starts. There is not dilly-dallying. The routine never changes. Our class is way behind the other AP Physics classes, though. I like him, he can be funny sometimes without trying too hard (unlike Trupe). His class is verryyyy easy.
Mr Fleischman is great. I never theought that I could do well in AP physics because I am more of an english person and I hate math, but he helped learn to LOVE physics. doesnt help much on the AP test, but thats not why I took the class. He is really nice and caring if you make an effort to be. Will give you an A in the end if you are close. awsome teacher
Didn't prepare us at all for ap physics b.. he's so boring too.
cool helpful teacher. Not an easy A. He is funny and koo.
Extremely easy class but you must study on your own if you wish to do well on the AP test.
Actually teaching us the material would be a good start.
The nicest teacher I've ever had, but he is extremely boring. A very easy class! (Easier than regular physics...seriously!)
His class is such a waste of time. Do whatever it takes to change into harvie. (if you want to learn)
Once i asked him about a physics problem and his reply was, "its not that hard" Wishes he was as good as Mr. Harvie, but far from it.
Everyone that says they didn't learn anything in his class must've been sleeping... What he taught me got me a 5 on the AP physics test
Goes too fast. Does not seem interested in his students who aren't football players. Very cranky, but a good sense of humor sometimes.
Ouch on the AP Physics B exam today... Mr. Fleischman...
AP Physics B is really easy, but don't expect to learn anything.
