Mr. Baird will prepare you for AP tests and introduce you to the world of physics with quirk and class unique only to him. He provides you with more than enough resources to learn the material, and if you study and take his class seriously you will get an A. His class is educational and entertaining (and occasionally a bit strange), and although his explanations can at times be a bit vague or repetitive, I have learned a lot from him and had a great time in his class - Mr Baird is a great guy
Learn about rainbows--but don't expect to be seeing a pot of gold at the end. Learn about the stars--do NOT expect to be reaching them in this class! You can stick your nose in a physics books for hours thinking you finally understand it all then when you take the exam an F will slap you in the face. He is very passionate about physics but after answering a question for you may still leave you with the same question. He should be teaching at a college not high school.
He's really smart, just very confusing and doesn't help students when they have questions. Super condescending.
He is a Phyz master. All these people saying rubbish are ones who want a straight A without putting any effort. You will get credited according to how much you give in class. Although he is mean sometimes, but he has no regrets about him being mean; so dont try telling him that. He gives a lot of chances to gain CTF(credit towards final). so there are lot more chances you will pass the class.
Horrible teacher! I thought teachers are supposed to actually teach...not just hand out a bunch on stupid papers that don't make sense. DO NOT take this class unless you want a bad grade, not learn anything about physics, and get talked to like you're stupid.
10 years later - very happy I took his class, learned an incredible amount of knowledge and was able to use all his worksheets for a college level phyz class. Just pay attention in class, do the homework and study and you'll get a good grade.
The guy's a chump. Seems like he became a teacher just to talk down to people. If you get him as a teacher you WILL get insulted by him at some point during the year.
he is very smart but its hard for me to understand his lessons
Mr. Baird is highly condescending an spends more time pampering and complimenting himself than actually teaching physics. We don't use the textbooks and he makes boring presentations that rarely teac you physics. No more system so it's veryhardaswell
He is a condescending narcissist who assigns way too much work which seems to drive people who are interested in Physics away from the subject. Luckily I was not discouraged and am now an Engineering major, but while taking that class back in Sophomore year I would have never dreamed of being here. Don't get me wrong, Baird is a GENIUS, but his class is way too much work for High School students.
Horrible, horrible teacher, His system is all wrong and it is such a trap. He should help students want to learn, instead his system is made for students who already want to learn. Extremely hard class. The only way to get an A is to either pretty much do every single worksheet he hands out OR immerse yourself in his Physics lessons. Beware: He is SUPER EXTREMELY UNIMAGINABLY condescending. You have no idea. And he is spectacularly conceited. He is obsessed with his db logo and his "Phyz." Yuck
cool teacher. i only realized after i was out of his class. he is really knowledgeable probably the smartest teach on campus. funny and really just works well in the class. he doesnt baby sit anyone and treats everyone how high schoolers should be treated. just a funny guy and a great teacher to learn from. plus hes friends with like all the science guys who wrote the books! everyone take physics! you will learn a lot and its always worth your while to take this class.
mr baird was a great teacher. this guy does not get enough respect at rio. He is one of the most knowledgeable teachers at Rio. There is no bs in his class or favorites, u just learn a ton. Hes also a pretty cool guy and has a lot of class. he also does the rio science night which is really cool because it like the only nice event Rio has in the science department or any department. just dont use ur cell fone in class or anything.
200 characters is not enough. He is the coolest teacher ever. He is funny and witty and wears cool hawaiian shirts He makes the best brownies. Taking physics was the best decision of my life
just finished my year with baird. if u do ur work and stay on his good side (don't text or sleep) ull do fine and u really learn a lot from this guy, a great teacher.
Mr. Baird is a very knowledge teacher, though I'd only recommend taking physics with him if you have a strong interest in the subject, otherwise you will find it/him very boring. The labs and tests are very challenging, though if you do all of the homework, then you should easily be able to get an A or B in the class.
Best science teacher at Rio. Regular physics was fun, but AP Physics = amazing! AP phyz is both very fun and very challenging! Best AP class I've ever taken! Mr. Baird is knowledgeable, smart, and dedicated. Without him, there's no way I'd be able to understand phyz. Also, his grading system is the best. If you don't do your homework, your grade won't drop. If you do your homework, you'll get a grade bump. Also, there are so many opportunities to raise your grade that one bad test score won't destroy you.
Mr. Baird may have the best of intentions, but all that comes across is a self-centered, egotistical, condescending man who thinks he is better than everyone and that you aren't worth his time. He name drops and shows off constantly. It is nearly impossibble to get a direct answer from him that doesn't make you feel worthless. His class is a major confidence basher.
Mr. Baird's Physics 1 class is not necessarily a walk in the park. I enjoyed it though, and looking back Mr. Baird is probably one of my favorite teachers at Rio. I learned a lot in his class and enjoyed it. The students who don't like him, in my opinion, are the ones who weren't willing to work hard. It is not hard to get in "the system" as long as you do all of the Q
Wow, the only science class I took where I didn't have to learn concepts by reading the textbook. Mr. Baird is awesome! He's a very dedicated teacher and is very helpful. His Physics 1 class is pretty easy to get an 'A' as he gives many opportunities for you to earn a good grade.
Great teacher, knows what he is doing, knows topic, helpful, does not bash on student, does not have favotires, logical, and overall a kickass teacher. If you think he is a bad teacher, OPEN YOUR EYES
dedicated and cares about his work. puts alot of effort into teaching, ex. phyz book, but alot of people don't appreciate him.
the only reason there are so many ways to earn back points you already lost is to hide that otherwise everyone would do poorly.
Try to avoid this teacher. He will screw you out of his "fair" system if you play sports or do anything besides work on your phyz stuff. Bad teacher and not a funny person, but thinks he is hilarious.
easy A if you read the papers he gives, but he avoids actually teaching at all costs and he shouldn't dock system points for excused absences. system masks everyone failing...
He's intelligent and *usually* fair... but he really doesn't teach. After each unit, I just ask my brother how everything works. Only then do I understand. I wish he would teach
his class is fun but.......... learning in that class is not an easy thing to do.
horrible teacher. he tries to put humor in his lectures and make it more interesting but i don't care about the class being entertaining, he just needs to be a better teacher. he also makes many of the female students uncomfortable with his inappropiate actions. it is my personal opinion that no teacher should ever touch a student, not to mention rub their shoulders and give them massages.
Excellent teacher. I had him for both AP Physics and Physics 1 and he was great. He makes physics really fun and runs things by his own system that's really fair.
knows a lot but tends to lecture on the wrong stuff. I love the system, but my grade looks horrible until I make it. tries to make the class fun but doesn't explain things clearly
good teacher but sometimes can make you feel uncomfortable
he neds to know that he souldnt ask questions as an answer to a students question, just makes it worse. (esspecially those long silences)
He is a great teacher but physics can often be a difficult subject to teach
He has cameras in his freakin class; I swear! He's constantly staring at his laptop (camera view) and theres a black thing hanging from the ceiling right front
easy A, with an awesome system. the system is so cool! Basically if you do your homework, you get in the system and then from there its a cake-walk
Wonderful teacher, excellent examples, I slept every day and got a B. His class is simple to follow, and the Book of Phyz is incredible, very clear and precise
I graduated in 1997, and although Baird was a hard teacher, his examples in class were always helpful. And you get a cheat sheet for tests...very cool!
haha he is funny funny man! i have never had a teacher who drives down to the avenues in a phyzvan.his gang sign, db , is hilarious. it is the funniest class
He's very knowledgeable and helpful. He's really there to help you.
db is a great guy, so are his brownies, so are phyz hi-fives
never gives his students a straight answer, instead, relies on riddles and sarcasm. really picky on miniscule things that does not affect the student's understanding of physics (as in requring only two problems to be written on a sheet of paper, ESLRs).
Mr. Baird's one of the smartest teachers I know. One of the smartest PEOPLE I know too.
Mr. Baird is a cool teacher but his Physics two class is brutal!
He eats, breathes, and sleeps physics. His liscence plate says PHYZVAN , the time on his hadouts is frequently between the hours of 1:00am and 5:00am. Hmmm... poor students.
funniest class i've taken, but the teaching's a little weird
The relaxed grading system is nice, but it lulls you into a false sense of security. He's not very clear about the topics either, but he does make the subject more interesting. BE SURE TO STUDY FOR THE TESTS! Even if you don't think you need to.
His directions are more complicated than the equations
Sends his students on frustrating wild goose chases.
The Phyzmaster is awesome. Relaxed grading system helps the less scientific.
