hardest teacher i had freshmen year. wasnt always the clearest instruction giver but always willing to help and answer questions after class. learned a lot in his class and is definitely something i would recommend incoming freshman to do. surprisingly funny as well
The Grammar Hammer isn't the easiest teacher at Ignatius (understatement), but his class really isn't as hard as everyone says it is if your willing to put in the effort. It's hard to describe him in only 500 characters, but this man WILL get you ready for college. He teaches like a college professor, as he only gives lectures during class, which can be very helpful when writing your papers, and he teaches you how to write a COLLEGE LEVEL paper.
While his class is extremely difficult, if you are willing to put forth a lot of effort, you will learn to be a great writer. He can be confusing at times, but once you get the hang of it, it isn't as bad as everyone says it is.
The Grammar Hammer, The Slacker Attacker, Notorious GPA. This man is the greatest teacher at Saint Ignatius. Even if you think your writing is impeccable, he will make you better. It's his way or the highway though. I remember my first essay was thrown in the trash when he saw it. He proceeded to work with me every day until the essay was perfect. A classy man and he will do anything for students. Can slack off a lot, but he does a lot. Overall, taking him has changed me for the better.
Everything you've heard about him is true. He will be THE hardest teacher you will ever take in high school. This is solely because of all the work that goes into the essays.
But his class has taught me more than any other class. I can't even begin to explain how helpful he was. My essays in other classes get recognized by teachers for being very good, and I barely have to put any effort into them after this class! You WILL be prepared for ANY essay you ever have to write in the future.
Sitting through each class was hell- stress from confusing instructions,- yes some funny moments, but now that I'm out of his class, I appreciate all that he has taught me in writing. Always available outside of class. After a year in his class, you will be able to write a college level paper. Anyone who says it's impossible is too lazy to put in the effort.
Mr. Arko taught very unclearly and was all over the place with his projects as well as making his standards impossible u would have to see him after class but he would never be available all people thinking of taking his class, don't, it was the worst choice I made.
incredibly challenging class, both as a freshman and junior. however, you can learn how he operates, catch on to what he wants for his ridiculously high standards. if you have a question and go meet with him, he lectures you and leave even more confused. the next year out of his class, you realize how much you have learned and how well you can write- college level! his little sayings stay with you (fine wine takes time, Slacker Attacker). Finished with a C in 9th grade, a- 11th grade
people try to convince you that you actually learn a lot in his class but its not really the case. hes smart but its very hard to do well in his class, and all he does is lecture. Will help if you need it. pretty unclear of what he wants
Real hard with very little pay out. No one in my class has anything close to an A. He talks but doesn't teach. His essays are impossible to get a good grade on unless you come every day after class to talk to him while he just tells you flat out that it sucks but he doesn't help you with it. So many people have Fs but if you were in another class it would be a B or A.
Worst teacher I ever had, without a doubt. His standards were pointlessly impossible, and his class lessons were essentially useless to boot.
To enjoy this class forget about your grade and focus on the fact that you are learning more in this class than you will in any other.
I currently have a C in his class and still do not regret taking his class. He taught me how to write a college level paper. Those who say he's impossible, that's on you. Fine wine takes time.
Arguably one of the best teachers at St. Ignatius. If you have him 1st period, he doesn't care if you're late but he does teach through announcements. Made freshman year extremely difficult, but he gets you into the hang of managing an intense workload. He puts on an act in class - he is brutal and scary during class but outside of class he is a great person. Also, he does so much for his students. He'll stay after school for hours just to help revise his students' essays. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!!!!
Mr. Arko is the man. Thats all that needs to be said.
He is a extremely insightful man who prepares us for college very well
Puts in so much time for students, and really prepares. MUCH better than regular english teachers in terms of what he teaches you. Needs to work on clarity at times.
Maybe the greatest teacher of all time. Puts forth so much of his own time and never stops working. The class is manageable if you stay on top of things. But not always clear, which is ironic...
He can be a bit unfair with the workload but other than that he is a good teacher
Mr. Arko is my favorite teacher at St. Ignatius. He may seem extremely demanding, but it pays off; you develop great time-management skills and an uncanny ability to write. A true man for others.
Really great person and teacher. Inspiring, funny, insightful. Makes you really work. What more can be said?
Dennis arko is a great teacher and a great man. I got a lot of respect for the man. He's hard but he'll make you be a man and do the work.
I love this man. I learned more in one semester in his class than in the two years prior when I had different teachers. I agree the workload is outrageous, but it is worth it.
Lots of work, lots of real thinking, real essay writing, but of course it is all worth it. Can't see a better teacher in the English Department.
every now and then you'll have a VERY good lesson, the rest of the time you pray he'd just disappear. picks on and singles out some students. impossible tests.
How can you not like Mr. Arko? He is an amazing teacher and a genuine person. He cares about each and every one of his students and is always willing to help.
his "slacker attacker" routine is passe... he can't even keep his OWN deadlines. his research paper method is so full of red tape; took way too much time to do.
he can be cool at times, but he is one hard teacher. he is kinda nice tho and we love the arko-sauraus
Intense class with lots of learning though. Will attack when you slack.
When this guy sees Slack,He Attacks, He doesn't look back, and thats a fact, Jack. Seriously great teacher, very hard at times. I learned a ton in his class.
homework and the difficult tests can be a bit overbearing, but he really does get his job done.
mr arko is one teacher who actually challenges his students its great to actually have to work and mr a keeps you on your toes. one of the best teachers ive had
Mr. Arko is one of the finest teachers not only in the English dept. but in the entire school. He has true dedication to his students and his job.
really great role model and person. sets an example for how to become a great person while teaching english
In my three years here, Mr. Arko is the best English teacher I've had, hands down. I've only had him for about a semester, but my writing has greatly improved
what can i say about this slacker attacker...he is one of the best teachers i have ever had...even though he was tough, he cares a lot about his students
Great teacher, in my top five so far at St. I; did lots of fun and interesting stuff and loved the rivalry between him and Fr. Ober.
What can I say? Mr. Arko is the greatest slacker attacker I have ever met!
This is Ignatius, so you have attack what you read! Well, this guy is the most dedicated teacher I've ever had. I think his use of anti-sparky tests can sometimes be harsh, but he did help improve my reading skills a lot.
Best teacher I've EVER had... by far. Thank you Mr. Arko!
