As a student who is now in College English courses, I can say that everything Ms. Gothelf makes you do, will help you in your upcoming education. While she sometimes funny, and a bit nicer than other people say, she genuinely cares about what she does. (dont blame her for my grammar)
Dont know why everyone rips on Gothelf so much. Shes honestly not that bad. Sure shes a bit of a harsh grader and tough on students but the workloads fair and shes not so bad if you go talk to her one on one. She can be pretty understanding. And hey... at least its not Dowd...
Harsh grader, high expectations, too cynical and pessimistic, too vague at times, devoted to helping students, creates helpful study guides and exercises, intelligent, tries to be fair but really isn't. Everyone I know hates her and rightfully so. The Midterm and many of her other assessments are too difficult, and when many students perform poorly, she makes spurious assumptions and belittles the entire class. AP English is a death trap.
She expects STUDENTS to lead discussions. When giving your opinion, on a test or in class, make sure its her opinion or it will be wrong. Very harsh grader and I wish I had switched out of her class early in the year.
I was in that class that she called "blobs that just sit there, and waste space and oxygen..." It was a long year.
She has informative classes, but you need to be prepared to say something or she'll belittle your class for being silent. She grades papers very harshly, but use this opportunity to talk to her after class. She's very nice once you get to know and talk to her. Making a small outline for each story before a test helps a lot!
Her class is very informative, and the concepts are easy to grasp. She grades papers harshly though, and will tend to pick favorites. She actually seemed to be a little bitter when people knew the right answer. She famously called one class, "blobs that just sit there, and waste space and oxygen." Good riddance.
love her. such a great teacher. she doesn't like you if you're obnoxious. do your work and you'll do well.
My Favorite Teacher this year!!! I think she has really changed because the seniors hated her but i think she's great!!! Her class is the first english class where I've had fun.
She has high expectations for students, but overall she's fair with grading and tells students exactly what she wants. Unfortunately, many say shes horrible because they end up with 0 on big tests for not answering the question. That is the student's fault, and not the teacher's. Study hard, pay attention, and she's a great teacher. Oh and stay on her good side, she does play favorites a little.
ok shes really intimidating but really shes not that bad. i had her for h english 3 and it was a very hard class and you need to be a good writer and she is a tough grader. she definitely has her favorites.
Very tough class. As a teacher, you'll learn a lot. As a person...she needs work. Very boring, never laughed at my jokes. It's like talking to a wall.
Very strict and mean-looking. But if you talk to her, she's a great person. Very hard to get an A in her class since she's got high standards.
aww shes so sweet..she'll help if u ask...dont be scared sophs
She has high expectations, but doesn't think you'll actually reach them. As soon as you say something insightful, she assumes you got it off Sparknotes.
oman i love this teacher...once u start talking to her she's so nice...i can tell its gonna be a tough yr tho..very tough
passive agressive, stuck up, talks like Martha Stewart; not good writers or participaters-than teach us something and quit giving us your little attitude
Best english teacher in the high school. Besides her i had gettis, cichalski, and whitten. She was acutally the smartest one. She is very fair and barelygivesHW
I dont like her at all, she has favorites, shes always down my throat over stupid stuff, god i dont like her, I have no respect for her whatesoever
She's the best English teacher I've ever had!!! I'm actually learning something for once!!!
She is kinda tough, but she's really nice and does help you out.
Mrs. Gothelf teaches you to work harder, but its the wrong time to be taught that(Junior Year)
Mrs. Gothelf is one of my favorite teachers in HHS. Her incessant need for class discussions about wonderful literature made me fall in love with English.
one of the nicest english teachers ull ever have...but she grades Reallly tough...
Simply put, by far the hardest (reasonable) English class.
