Out of all the religion teachers that teach the Christian Ethics class for juniors, he is the only teacher that gives F's and C's for work that would be graded much higher from other teachers. Every student in his class has an unfair advantage in terms of grades compared to students that have other teachers. Not only that, I did not enjoy the class whatsoever.
Even though Doc is a difficult teacher, he shows tremendous care for the students. I do not fully recommend him because his grading system is a bit different and there aren't any tests or quizzes. However, he is a very good guy and you just have to trust the process.
Dr. Scibilia is one of if not the greatest teacher I have ever had. Some comments say that he is not helpful but he HELPS YOU BY TEACHING YOU TO HELP YOURSELF!!! He wants his students to be independent thinkers who can support what they believe in with factual information. I've been through his class trust me, it was certainly frustrating but it pays off in the end. I highly reccommend him.
The courses are created so that you think for YOURSELF. Not everything is going to be crystal clear because you are supposed to take the assignment and do what you see fit with it. They'll do this in college, and that's why I feel he is one of the best teachers to have at Prep. If you're caught slacking then good luck, but if you're on top of it he'll see you as ahead of the game.
There are two words you should remember in the class. Social Ethics. That is the only thing that he cares about. You can write or talk about anything in his class, but if you forget a social ethical analysis, say hello to failing grades. Also, I recommend you think different from the rest of the class. If you show participation and do the work often, he'll go a little easier on you if you do. Also, not everything in the class is a Utilitarian ethic.
There is a lot of work, more than you would expect for a religion class, but it is worth it because you learn a lot in Doc's class. He is extremely committed and is unlike most teachers because he does not give any tests or quizzes, because instead of cramming information, he wants you to do the assigned readings, understand them, and be able to discuss them. If you really want to learn and don't just care about getting an easy A, then you will do fine in his class.
He does not stick to the teaching of love yourself and love everyone method. His political views get in his way of doing this. He should be a history teacher not a religion one.
Dr. Scibilia is one of the teacher's that doesn't stick to the norm of teachings. Memorization, quizzes, and tests. His grading system is good, do the readings.. understand the readings..
great guy! as long as its clear to him you read and care about the material, u'll do fine. one thing i loved about him is that he never cared about grades. beware: do the readings! he will catch u
I like his class, somewhat of a tough grader, but nonetheless a fair grader and a teacher who makes a point. One of the very few committed teachers in this school, deserves moreres
Doc Scibilia is probably the greatest teacher at St Peter's currently. His views make you think completely different and open your eyes to the other half of the world
all though i do not agree with his politics he is still a good guy and a good teacher
Doc was the best teacher I had sophmore year...if your complaining his "views" then you didn't work hard enough. I'm a republican and his views never got in the way of a great clas
Doc purposely gets in student's faces and challenges them to think on there own. Thats how he teaches you life and religion, if you don't get, too bad.
He challenged me to defend my Republican leanings. In the end, I'm a stronger thinker (and Republican) for it.
He may be a tough grader, but he's not a bad guy. VERY smart too.
Doc is a real ball-buster who lets his emotions get in the way. However, the man is smart and knows how to teach. He does his job well.
the only problem with his grading is that it is out of a hundred points so you can't make up a grade you screwed up on. anyway his class is so much fun
Don't like his way of teaching. Tries to control your mind into thinking that you're always wrong and he's always right.
most people don't like doc but he is actually a good teacher
