He definitely had control of his classes. I remember that he won a lot of awards, and he deserved them. He never missed school and made sure we learned grammar and literature. So many teachers were there just for the paycheck, but that did not describe him. Mr. McUmar was at most of our extracurricular functions, dancing at the GAA formal with us and singing at graduation. He was respectful and kind to us, and that was what he expected of us in return. He was a GREAT teacher.
I disagree that Mr. McUmar's classroom was stressful. Probably the only students who were stressed were the ones who didn't care to try or do their work. Mr. McUmar was witty and had a dry sense of humor. He never raised his voice, but his demeanor told us that he demanded respect. He knew his subject matter and tried to transfer that knowledge to his students. He wasn't there to socialize with us, so to say that he lacked social skills is unfair. He worked hard and took his job seriously
His classroom had an uneasy atmosphere about about it. Kind of stressful. He assigned a lot of work but he made sure you learned--I'll give him that. Overall, a smart man with poor social manner...
Everything that needed to be said about Mr. McUmar has been said by others who appreciate him as much as I do. I credit my English skills to his dedication. In an age when the trend was to accept med
Mr. McUmar cared for his students both inside and outside the classroom. He sponsored various educational field trips. Because of him, I got to see New York City and many Broadway plays in Pittsburg
Wow! Mr. McUmar was a spectacular teacher. I still use the English skills I learned in his class to this day. Other educators could only hope to be HALF the teacher he was. Kudos to Mr. McUmar!
Mr. McUmar was an amazing teacher. He definitely prepared me for college and for life. I will never forget what he's done for me.
He is clearly the BEST English teacher that Hancock County has ever had. It was Hancock's loss and Brooke's gain when he decided to change his career path.
Mr. McUmar is clearly the BEST teacher ever to teach at Weir High. His professional approach, knowledge of his subject matter, and dedication are what make him stand out above others.
He was very organized daily and truly wanted his students to learn. Mr. McUmar was very professional at all times, and he prepared his students well for their future English classes.
One of my favorite teachers at Weir High! He will leave a lasting impression--even 10 years out of his class, i'm confident i could still successfully diagram a complex sentence.
Mr. McUmar was a tough teacher. He was not easy and I earned my first C. Although I struggled, he taught me well and I learned a lot.
I hated his class. Struggled with it all the time. He is an amazing teacher. He makes you think, alot. Whether you were willing to learn or not, most likely in his class you did.
I think that Mr.McUmar is great and he makes learning easy.
Mr. McUmar was the greatest teacher at Weir High. He made you think, and, most importantly, you learned! This is something that is quite uncommon at our school.
Mr McUmar was a great teacher! He may not be the easiest teacher, but that doesn't mean he's not a good one. I learned more in that class than any other class! Mr McUmar is awesome no matter what! :-)
