The best teacher at Oakton High School. Awesome guy!
Remember when there is leftover time in Lau's class, you must put your head down, close your eyes, and think about your future.
He tries very hard to help everybody! He is funny without him even making jokes. He always dresses very properly. He can be a little hard to understand so make sure to stay after class to ask him to recap what you learnt. He spends at least 20 minutes a day explaining the importance of rereading your notes and asking questions.
Ever wanted to experience having an Asian parent? Mr. Lau is your man, complete with thick accent, fearsomely efficient grading, genius-level knowledge of computers/math, and these ridiculously funny analogies. Also cracks jokes about students and their (typically abysmal) grades. Without a doubt best teacher in Oakton HS, for both teaching ability and classroom humor. Unspoken recommendation is that you need a military grade binder as well as a gunpowder-driven stapler to handle all the packets
This man literally eats paper, he breaths paper, he has sexually relations with paper. This man consumes over 400 gallons of the stuff everyday. The Commonwealth of Virginia has placed paper on the endangered species list because of this man. The U.S government's debt from china is mostly for payin Mr. Lau's Lust for paper. Just remember his packets are due tomorrow!!!1
Although he grade very tough and his quizzes are very hard, if you want help he will give it to you and as long as you work hard you will not fail.
Fantastic teacher, expects a lot from students, but is very open to helping anyone in need of assistance.
Mr. Lau is a textbook asian parent... He expects the most out of all of his students and if you do not rise to these expectations he will screw your grade up. However, if you are trying your best he will help you out. Overall great guy
Don't let this rating discourage prospective students; Mr. Lau is one of the best if not the best teacher at Oakton High School. His classes are very difficult, but incredibly rewarding. Love him!
Apples. Satisfries. Oranges. Weird analogies. Extremely fast grader. Either you like him or you hate him, depends on the person. He puts a lot of effort into his students, may get annoying for some, but his passion does rub off. As a teacher, he's great, but as a person, good luck connecting. Won't, or can't talk about anything other than the subjects he teaches.
Mr. Lau's courses are not easy, but if you work hard, you will be rewarded with an incredibly strong understanding in the material. I had him for three years (pre-calc, BC, APCS) and seriously, Mr. Lau has greatly influenced my academic career up until today. His passion for teaching and bringing out the potential in his students is exactly what has led me to be pursuing a computer science major in college today.
I love Mr Lau's class. His enthusiasm and passion always inspires me
his tests and quizzes can be hard but its worth it in the end bc he prepares u rlly well for the actual ap exam and everyone does really well
BEST TEACHER EVER
awesome teacher, really tries to help everyone out.
Students in Mr.Lau's class do well if they're not distracted. You can't afford to miss anything he says because he teaches very fast paced classes. AP Computer Science is not going to be easy, and nei
He's a great teacher who is willing to help. I had him for math and comp sci. He has problems trying to understand and explain, but overally a great teacher. He hates smart people though.
I feel sorry for those who said he was the best teacher you've ever had in your life. he always looks for ways to lower students grades. luk! x pruss waai equals ah zirow
I hated mr. Lau, worst math teacher I've ever had. He didn't teach me the subjects, and then when I asked questions he wouldn't ever answer them. There were 30 people in my class, and 15 dropped the c
favorite math and compsci teacher if u try he will give u a good grade he loves the smart kids he might be hard to understand but its alright
One of the best teachers I've ever had in my life. At college now and classes have been a breeze for Mr. Lau's subjects.
I loved Lau! He has such integrity. And at least for compsci, he is a phenomenal teacher if you do work and ask questions. Great guy.
good teacher, takes a little bit of time to get used to how he teaches, but if you put in effort, he will help you out, and make sure you do well in the class
Great guy, but confusing. Whenever he goes on a tangent, whip out the textbook and learn from it.
Awesome, funny teacher. Got a 5 easily on my AP compsci exam, thanks to him. He gives you a lot of good practice for the exam.
Funny Guy. Willing to change your grade if you show improvment. Also you dont have to do HW if you can do well on the tests.
Very nice and considerate. Because of his accent it is hard to understand what he says however he really does the best he can in helping out his students and being fair. He is unintentionally funny.
He is such a nice/funny guy. Very educated and informed.
Very nice guy, goes to pretty considerable efforts to help out students. Admittedly, sometimes his accent can make it difficult to understand, but I never found it to be a problem.
He is an awesome teacher, hard to understand, but it is possible, he is really funny, most of the time unintentionally though. One of my best/favorite teachers.
Although i switched out of his class, he's an ok teacher. He seems extremely smart and knows his stuff but he cant seem to communicate what he's trying to teach and that makeshisclass ridiculouslyhard
He is so nice and fair I like him (he doesn't give homeworks everyday to students)
I think Mr. Lau controls the world from his room. He knows everything there is to know about computer science. Makes jokes that aren't funny until he says them.
Mr. Lau is a very hard teacher, but is very smart and is always willing to help his students to do their best. His lectures are sometimes very unclear but he's a very nice man.
He goes through things really slowly to make sure you understand it, but after a while it can get boring. Sometimes he doesn't explain things too well, but otherwise he's fine as long as you work.
His class isn't an easy elective, but if you are willing to try you will learn and he'll give you a good grade. Doesn't worry too much about homework and lets you do what you want if your work is done
He's a pretty nice teacher but can't teach to save his life. Harvard degree or not, he needs to learn how to teach; one of the worse classes I've taken but maybe if I take it 1000 times, I'll like it
Mr lau is one of my favorite teachers, kind of hard to understand sometimes but extremely fair. Plus he is hilarious (usually advertantly)and the java dubber-entendres are the best
Durr it!!! Mr. Lau is awesome and anyone who tells you otherwise is just a ninny
He is the coolest teacher ever! But he is hard sometimes but he makes up for it by being really cool!
Lau can be hard, but he will make you understand if you are willing to pay attention. Trust me, I took compsci and got a job programming and knew what I was doing.
Mr Lau is the best teacher you'll have. He is very smart and funny (not always intentional). I will always remember my experience with Javer
Genuinely kind-hearted...one of the most memorable teachers at oakton. he moves around a lot but wants to help you out if you actually try. gave me lots of time for com sci labs
Cool teacher. If you are stupid then you should drop out of his class since he isnt helpful at all.
you must pay attention but he knows what hes talking about and truly loves to teach. what a ghreat teacher.
I'm in AP and this guy is awsome. The class is kinda erratic, but a nice guy. He is SMART!!! He is very considerate and will help you if you need it.
get an umbrella if u wanna sit in the front of the class way 2 much splashing of spit when talking. but he will give u more time to work on labs if u need to.
Well I had him for 2 classes... Comp Sci was incredibly hard dont take it unless ur brilliant... he really wants u to succeed, hard class but a VERY nice person.
Quizzes are impossible, he is impossible to understand
if he could speak english he would be much easier to understand
He's a good guy. He really wants to help students understand but will usually just confuse them further. Stay awake during his lectures and you'll learn a lot.
Best Comp. Sci. teacher ever. Will teach to your level.
While his answers may be bad, you will learn from this man. I'm a freshman at VT, and we won't even finish covering what I learned in AP untill NEXT YEAR.
He's an incredibly smart guy, really, he is ridiculously smart. Take his class, and you will learn a lot, i gurantee it.
Mr. Lau is awesome. He is very smart and if you listen to his lectures (which can be boring) you will learn a lot. He is very funny and makes the class enjoyabl
He's a great teacher, and he'll make sure that you understand the topic to it's fullest. Very helpful and concerned about his students abilities.
Fun teacher to watch because of his sporatic movements but is imposible to understand. Teach yourself the stuff
He is the most averige teacher around. He knows what he is doing however he is to hard to understand.
He will do anything it takes to get you to understand comp sci. If you're in AP, you'll get a 5.
Briliant! Smart! Must know what you aer doing in his class
