The best teacher that I have ever taken. Honestly I can't imagine my life without her AP lit course. It is similar to a college unit, but I mean what else are you expecting when you take AP? She changed my writing and my life and I'm so grateful to know her.
I have never had an English teacher - or any teacher, for that matter - anywhere near the quality of Mrs. Avery. Every student that has taken her class does well on the AP test and is able to properly analyze any piece of writing that they come across. She knows exactly what she is doing and why. If a student says they hate her, it is because they are not willing to put in the work to become an amazing writer through her class.
She is extremely over confident and rude, treats students like they mean nothing to her. Only thing she cares about are her AP scores. although she might know a lot about what she teaches she does it in a unkind, extremely hurtful way making students who are smart feel that they are inadequate. She chooses favorites and openly puts people down in front of the entire class room. Least favorite teacher so far.
It seems weird to say that one person is responsible for your ability to form comprehensive thoughts, but until I took her AP English course, I was only regurgitating summaries of books. She taught me the importance of the question "so what?" She taught me that I didn't know anything if I couldn't tell her why something happened was important.
It's been eleven years since I took her English class and I still think about her every time I analyze something.
Much love to her!
Love Eldra, wish I could take more classes from her. Explains material that is required by state etc, but makes you critically think like no other teacher, and legitimately loves teaching, unlike most
15 years later, looking back, one of the best teachers I ever had!
very friendly and witty woman. however, extremely emotional and conceited. her course is actually like college; ones who are naturally good will survive and the ones who "try" will not even survive.
At first, I was sure I didn't like her, in fact, I dreaded her class. But after a couple weeks, l found myself absolutely loving her. She's an amazing teacher, and so compassionate, take her class!
I LOVE this woman! You are missing out if you don't take her class. I improved my writing so much in this class.
She's really not as difficult as everyone says she is. On the first day, when she's going over the syllabus, yeah, the class seems intimidating. But it's not. It's an excellent course.
Avery is an awesome teacher--the best I've had. She earnestly cares about students and teaches those who are willing to learn. Self-improvement, however, seems to be too much for many. :/
An inspirational, no-nonsense teacher with enough wit and intelligence to make every day interesting.
I loved her... What a great teacher, very tough, but it was such a pleasure!!
In my opinion Mrs. Avery is tied for best teacher at SLO High School, and she wins hands down for "most enthusiastic." She is can be so entertaining that you don't even realize you're learning.
I think she is the hardest teacher I will probably ever have, but her class has been my favorite.
Eldra's class was more challenging than any I took in college. I'm a teacher now, and I want to be just like her.
Mrs. Avery has been a monumental figure in my career as a student. Although her brash and straight forward ways may not appeal to some students, her knowledge is emmense and she is an amazing educator
Well, to call Mrs. Avery a teacher is like calling my opinion well founded. it simply isn't true. She actually makes us write things and read books! Imagine the agony! Cheers.
This is the teacher you want your child to take: very challenging and rewarding!
Her class was the best English experience that I had in High School. It prepared me for writing in college the most out of any of my other classes! Thanks Avery!!!
she taught me how to teach myself how to write. Eldra is a wonderful, fun, challenging teacher. The best english class i've ever taken, no regrets.
A good person, but she really didn't improve my writing skills at all....it is utterly pointless to write essays upon essays, when she doesn't even read them to help you improve.
Avery is the best over Nairne, sorry man, but Avery is just the coolest English teacher I ever had. She got me into college. YEA!
Mrs. Avery has been a huge influence on me educationally and socially. Lessons I've learned with her have been the best experiences of my life.
