Half the time he talks, I completely dose away
One of the worst I've had in my life. This teacher expects us to be awesome programmers without teaching any fundamentals. Be prepared to come into APCS knowing everything if you wanna do well. Also, talk to him about your work all the time or just be naturally good. He curves but the curves are bad in this class. 2/10 for sure.
Great comp sci teacher, super knowledgable and connects with students, and is also very cool.
Mr. Ferrante is practically a useless teacher. When he teaches, he's okay, but otherwise he is not. He judges students way too quickly and shows high signs of favoritism. He is very unorganized, and loses a lot of turned in homework. In addition, he isn't open at all to new ideas or corrections, and has a very boring monotone voice. The class is good, but the teacher is not.
Very good. APCS is great! We don't really use the textbook (didn't even know there was one until second semester), but I'm fine with that. Mr. Ferrante's awesome!
Mr.Ferrante can be a good or bad teacher depending on who you are. He sometimes holds grudges against students just because of the math class they are taking, but at the same time he was pretty chill and nice. Many complain about his tests, but they aren't really impossible, and he helps students out by giving a curve. He isn't very strict, since you can turn an assignment late without a penalty. If you want to learn JAVA and have at least a B in this class, I highly recommend taking his class.
"Take a class for the knowledge not the grade" - This class is insanely hard. Mr. Ferrante is a decent guy but sometimes he judges students and makes racially insensitive remarks that quite frankly have no place in the classroom. Very unprofessional.
This guy makes you work INSANELY hard to no avail. He is very unhelpful, quick to judge, and doesn't believe in helping students that struggle. If you're interested in a class where you have to learn everything by yourself or fail, take this class.
Where to start? Mr. Ferrante is by one of the more unique teachers you'll meet on campus. His teaching style is unorthodox, the textbook use is minimum, and his clarity is high. He has a true passion for teaching and puts emphasis on understanding.
His class is definitely challenging. The exams are tricky and the workload can be heavy. However, if you dedicate yourself you will improve. Learned a TON of computer science from him
As a teacher, he is very entertaining and knows what he is doing.
hes okay but hes very quick to judge... so dont make a bad impression
Positives: He is a no nonsense teacher who understands his students and generates an atmosphere of hard work and thoughtfulness. Negatives: He speaks very soft at times, to a point where it becomes a problem to hear him. Fast pace and be ready to run
This class is by no means easy. Mr.Ferrante is not a teacher; he is an engineer, so he will always push you, and you will always find the class hard, but this can only help you for life. Try hard and you will do fine. -Nagasai (12-13)
TBH Mr Ferrante wasnt 2 bad, I admit he does need to brush up on some concepts, I learned a lot from his class. Altho ppl are complaining about his tests being extremely hard, he compensates by give us huge curves. (their actualy insane)
Mr. Ferrante is one of the best teachers in my opinion because not only does he challenge you to do well in his class, but he also helps you throughout the whole process. I was one of his students that got a B. But having him as a teacher was great!
I can tell you that this class is no joke; its very difficult, but this can only help you prepare for life. Mr.Ferrante is an engineer, not a teacher; thus he will always challenge you unlike most other teachers. Try hard and you'll do well - Nagasai
I've been in his class two years now, last year in Alg2/Trig and this year in APCS. This is probably my favorite class this year. He has an interesting sense of humor, which is uncommon among the teachers. Tests are normally really difficult.
I was in his Algebra 2/Trig class. He was such a helpful teacher. He taught and knew the material very well! I learned so much in his class. His exams were HARD, so there was usually a curve. I once got a 20% curve on my test. He is one of the best.
Mr. Ferrante is an extremely intelligent teacher. Although his class may seem difficult, don't be afraid to talk to him outside of class and ask for help. He's extremely helpful when you ask for it.
Mr. Ferrante is quite a "chill" teacher. He's fairly friendly and social in a geeky way, which I personally enjoy.
His JAVA class is pretty easy, however people do fail the tests... as a result, there is a curve. Pretty generous one too.
This guys algerbra 2/trig class is too hard. His tests are way too inconsistent, sometimes they are easy and sometimes they're super hard. On one of the test, the highest score was a 73 percent, so he rounded that to a 100. Timmereck's kids say that all the dumb people are in ferrante's class, so that is why no one scores high on their tests. THis is not true because we took a timmereck test once, and out class average was 6 percent higher than timmereck's.
His trig class is pretty hard, not because the content is difficult but because he doesn't know how to explain it well. He barely taught us the basics and went straight to the difficult problems because "we're in trig." He's very good at math, but he's not so good at realizing that he ACTUALLY needs to teach us even though we're good at math too. Also he neglects his low-performing students, so anyone with a C in the class feels really bad about their grades
He is extremely rude, offers no almost no AP incentive, and never updates grades. You won't know your grade until it's too late. He didn't teach a lot of the material that was found on the AP test, such as abstraction, and did not cover advanced topics such as data structures even though there was time left in the class.
For Algebra II, Mr. Ferrante is not that easy, but not that hard either. You need to pay close attention in class, study well for his exams, and do all your homework! He will help if you ask, but often tries to make you figure a problem out first by asking follow up questions. He is a bit eccentric and goes off on tangents a bit, but it made the class more interesting. If you do well on the final like I did, he may just give you a grade bump.
I had Mr. Ferrante for Algebra 1 my freshman year. He's not my favorite, but he's definitely an interesting teacher. He gets easily distracted, and he introduced us to his girlfriend (kind of unprofessional, in my opinion). However, the information gets across if you do your homework, and as with any algebra class, if you don't pay any attention, you have no way of passing your tests. That being said, he offers multiple ways to make up for any points lost.
From my experience, he's not the greatest teacher you can get. Ask him a question, and you'll be lucky if you get a straight answer or if he has any idea what he's saying. He expects the student to run a java virtual machine in their brain and output code - including runtime errors. Apparently card games are completely related to computer algorithms...
Coolest teacher ever... i TA for him xD I really like the way he teaches his Alg. 1 class... i wish he was my teacher in 7th grade for that...
Best teacher ever. He has a true passion for his subject and really wants his students to learn. He changed my life! (I am now in the third year of a CS degree at MIT)
I took computer science with this teacher, and he is the one that set the path for my major in college. thanks to him, that class was an absolutely amazing experience. he put it in a way I understood.
Mr. Ferrante is super cool. His CompSci class was awesome, and I got so much out of it. He's kind of a nerd but he's still super cool. He really cares for his students and wants them to learn.
he's definitely the coolest math teacher i've even had.
Mr. Ferrante's a unique one. Cool, funny, and all the while a showman. He's the only teacher who can separate you as a person and as a student. That's something you really shouldn't take for granted. As a friend, he's really fun and caring. But as a teacher, he's hard and strict. If you can understand the material and DO YOUR HOMEWORK ON A DAILY BASIS (extremely vital since you CANNOT make up homework in his class), you'll get an A. Good job, high five.
dude ferrante is the best math teacher i've ever had!! he's hella good at coming up with examples that are understandable and memorable.
He is totally cool. He helps me understand math...yay!
An OK teacer, I had him for BC. VERY difficult, though he's helpful when you talk to him in person, but very busy. Do your HW in ADVANCE and don't take biology AP at the same time!
as a BC student.. his test is HARD but GREAT, nice problem for beginners and very comprehensive. little more experience and he can be the best math teacher. (?)
Alg2: Very fun, very good teacher. CalcBC: Very, VERY hard and unforgiving. He tends to get frustrated a lot when people don't get it. Don't expect an "A".
had him for alg2/trig and calc bc. alg2/trig was a good math class. can teach well. calc bc is ridiculously hard, the tests are undoable. wont forget this class
I love Mr. Ferrante! He was generally very organized with comprehensive, understandable notes. Whenever I had issues, I would go to him and he helped me.
a very cool and funny guy. however, as a calc BC student... oh god, his tests are ridiculous. that's all i can say. DO, DO, DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!!!!!!!
mr. ferrante is a really cool teacher who helps kids learn math in a fun way which most math teachers dont do. i think that he's liked by many students.
one of the best teachers for math i have ever had, even though i find it somewhat difficult i still understand everything he has taught us. good job!!!
Ferrante describes everything under the meaning "excellent" and "caring". Keep up the good work!!
he knows what he is talking about, and is really good at math. but im not sure if he was the best teacher... he freaks out if he messes up or gets stressed out
he is a cool kid that knows what he is doing.(period)
His classes were the easiest classes I had, and I thank for making me pass the AP exam, GO FERRANTE!!
he has a mental breakdown sometimes. gives tests that contain parts that he doesn't teach.
dont even know wut he is doing during class, but very helpful when u go c him in person
He helps a lot when you do go see him after class. But during class it's very hard to understand him. His tests are hard too. My worst math class in high school was Alg2/trig.
