He was the greatest teacher at Amador Valley High School. After 6th period on June 3rd, the last day of school, I was able to say a fulfilling goodbye to him. He was retiring and I was happy for him. We wished each other luck. Unfortunately, on June 4th, he passed away. When I saw that email, I got teary. I have very fond memories of his class which will last for life. He was sincere and passionate and left more of an impact on me during the year than any other teacher. Rest in piece, Mr. Thiel.
Rest in peace Mr. Thiel. You were an inspiration to all of us, and you will be missed greatly by all the people you have touched. Your love for your students was immense and palpable. Everyday, you put a smile on everyone's face and made everyone happy. You were a large part in what made Amador Valley and it's students amazing. <3 <3 <3
He stopped caring about his students about two years ago. Did not prepare us AT ALL for the ap exam and most people just had to self study. Majority got 3's and 4's. His lectures were vague and too fast. Nice person, good teacher, but I didnt have a good experience.
He is the greatest teacher ever. Today was the last day of school, and his speech was amazing. Read the chapters when he tells you to and you will be fine. He knows exactly what he is doing and exactly what he is talking about. He is very knowledgeable, fun, and really loves Biology. I would go back in time and take the class again if I could. Have a great summer Mr. Thiel!
He's a great teacher and honestly, one of the best biology teachers out there. His class is relatively hard and requires a bit of work with lab reports. However, I did not touch the textbook at all and managed an A in his class. He also rarely assigns any homework.
One of the best teachers. :)
I think Mr. Thiel is a brilliant teacher. He loves what he does and he is so passionate about it. His exams are definitely challenging but his curves are very generous. He makes sure about 20% of people get an A every time. AP bio class is not an easy class but if you love biology it isn't impossible to get good grades because gives you a very nice grade boost for final.
Mr. Thiel is a great teacher If you are fond of self-studying. Otherwise, forget trying to get a good grade.
The tests are really hard if you study the day before you will fail. But Thiel is a great teacher who makes the class interesting and fun. DO THE READING EVERY DAY and STUDY HARD FOR TESTS and you'll do fine
He is the best teacher ever! AP Biology is a very easy class partly because he is the one that teachers it. Super easy class, super fun activities, super awesome teacher, what more is there to say? I would give him a 10.5 ... million/10.
Super smart guy, know what he's doing. However, I had him 1st period and it was always deathly boring listening to his lectures. Zzzzzz. He's a really nice guy, and as a person he is great. I just wished he offered a bit more direction and made it easier for his students to learn bio by assigning more helpful hw other than reading. The class avg is almost always pretty low, and that needs fixing!
BEST TEACHER EVETR BUT ALSO SUPER HARD CLASS. BE PREPRAED FOR A LOT OF WORK AND STUDYING
His my favorite teacher at amador. It's very easy to understand the biology.
My favorite teacher at Amador. He is very passionate about his job and you can tell her cares about the students. Although his class can be hard at times he strives to answer any and all questions and will give very generous curves. Amazing teacher! This is the first time I've ever enjoyed a science!
I kind of wish there were other criteria to rate him on,as I would rate him closer to a 4. Mr. Thiel is EXTREMELY knowledgeable about the subject. Coming from Da Costa, this is a nice change, although he does go off on random tangents a little frequently. His lectures are clear and helpful but quite boring in all honesty. Lab reports are death (and he doesn't even grade them himself, which irks me). Tests are easy if you understand the material. He also takes 300 years to grade scantron tests :(
Class is around 20% As, and exams are curved to reflect it. He uses the textbook for the whole test--in class lectures will only cover about 60% of test material. Thiel is very, very knowledgable about the subject; if you ask a question that he can't answer he will give you bonus points for researching it. He knows a whole lot more than the book, and the book I believe is more than 800 pages. He cares about his students, but the lab reports will have the whole class staying up for an extra 3-4hr
it all bin sayd
AP Biology is probably the easiest AP science course, but it's definitely not easy. Though the lectures might seem to drag on, everything makes more sense if you read the chapters beforehand. He's really good at making sure everyone understands a topic before moving forward and he genuinely cares about his students.
mista theil is a r341 n1qq4
sometimes kids come in high
Mr Thiel is probably one of my top three favorite teachers of all time. He's very clear in what he has to say, always available to help, and he is hilarious ;) seriously never knew a class could be this fun and productive. Yes his tests are hard and he even admitted that he makes them hard intentionally, yet I respect him for doing so because of his intentions to better prepare us for college (Its worked for me). Just spend a bit of time each day and you'll be fine. Amazing teacher, seriously.
For regular biology classes, he is not very good since his methods are more suitable for AP biology. His lectures may be long and boring if you're not that interested in biology. However, as an AP biology student I LOVE this class. He's funny and really cares about his students. He will tell you stories that will inspire you and at the end of the year he has gained an incredible amount of respect from me. He is an awesome man and teacher.
Okay guys. So Mr. Thiel's AP Bio class is hard. If you guys think it's boring, the teacher isn't going to make it much better. If you ENJOY biology, you will love the class! You will learn SOO much advanced stuff, and to us bio-freaks, it's so much fun. Yes the lectures are long, but if you pay attention, it'll all make sense for you on the test. The tests have analytical questions and really teach you how to use your mind. READ THE BOOK. This isn't a class for the lazys!
probably one of the best and most memorable science teachers I ever had. Had him back in 07 when I was a frosh. Still remember stuff from that class.
Amazing teacher! Teaches not only biology but lessons in life. Great to have one on ones with him. He knows what hes doing and he prepares you really well for the AP exam and for life. Taught me a good work ethic and lots of biology! Hes a great teacher and you get what you deserve in the class. Listening to his lectures will get u Cs on the test you have to read to get the A. Great class and amazing teacher!
Eh, not the best not the worst. Generally leaves you alone so he can do his computer work. Pays way more attention to the smart kids. also teaches AP and I think he just is not into regular bio at all. if you can switch out it will be better
DO YOUR READING. mr. thiel is aweeesome and super nice, and he KNOWS BIOLOGY. the tests can be hard, but if you really want to do well do your reading and try to actually understand it
Thiel's AP Bio class is HARD! But you know what? He makes sure you end up doing okay. He's so incredibly helpful, he's always available if you need him to help you understand something, but its up to you to go in and talk to him! I managed to raise a D from the middle of the semester to a solid B after I realized how helpful he is. Just work hard and you'll love this class!
What can I say, Thiel is a bundle of fun. He always knows whats hes talking about and if he doesn't then you can look it up for extra credit. Even though his lectures cover pretty dull topics hes always so enthusiastic about what hes teaching. Never forget to read before the tests, it will save your life. Note: If you get him really distracted during class (subjects like sushi or w/e) he will have no choice but push back the test until he has finished will all of his notes.
I LOVE Mr. Thiel. He really was such a big help and I think I've learned the most out of his class. The labs sometimes seemed tedious and so did the lecture notes but it was all good in the end. He is ALWAYS availible when you need help and is just such a nice guy overall. His tests might be challenging, but if you keep up with the readings then you should be fine.
awesome teacher, hes hella funny and teaches rly well also. I had him for Bio and Ap Bio and I took AP Bio w./o taking chem since I wanted to take an AP Science Junior year. I think he made the concepts very clear, and although his lectures can be hard to follow at times he's always willing to help. Got a 4 on the AP Exam without studying cause of his class. HIS AP BIO TESTS ARE VERY CHALLENGING SO KEEP ON THE READING(unlike me). Lastly, Mr. Thiel if u read this you'll know who it is cause i say KOBEEE
Mr. Thiel you rock your lectures teach us a lot. and your labs are great
i loved his class! lots of lectures, but he knows so much and is really funny. you learn a lot
Out of all my AP teachers, I think he prepared me the least (review-wise) for the exam. Well we'll see how it goes
overprepares u ap test. learned way too much. lectures were long but he seems so excited about plant respiration...the material's boring but he tries to make it interesting.
he's such a cool teacher, he does have lots of lectures though. but he actually makes things interesting. he knows soo much
The man's class put me to sleep, but he talks about really cool stuff. I couldn't keep up in his class, got a 'D' on his final, but he really prepares you for the AP test. 4!!!
LOVED BIOLOGY WITH MR. THIEL. I had him last year, and he was awesome! I liked listening to his lectures, and they never seemed boring at all. Can't wait for AP next year! :)
He's a good teacher but he lectures a lot and he like Mac's.
thiel is an awsome teacher who understands what he is talking about 24/7. he knows what he is talking about so i can trust him. very bright man
Mr. Thiel is the best teacher I had at AV, hands down. He DID make the Krebs cycle interesting.
I swear he has got to be the best teacher (teaching-wise) at amador. He is pro and I love him!!! He treats us with respect and everyone should do the same.
Mr Thiel is so cool, very nice and very funny as well. he understands from the students point and encourages notes properly (how else but letting u use them!)
hes great last year when we took those standardized tests only his classes thought it was ez oh ya and in the 03 yearbook is a picture of him in ruby hills pond
One of the best teachers I ever had! The field trips were great.
yeeeeeeeeeeeey! sorry for fallin asleep in your class...you're and awsome teacher!
good teacher, but the lectuers get boring - but then again, could anyone make the kreb cycle intersting?
