If ya all think emery is a hard grader you didn't have Katlyn or Roche for H10, as long as you clarify your ideas and have consistent grammar it's not hard to get an A on your essay. His tests are fairly difficult but that's the standard for all HEL class so i don't know what you guys are complaining about it's not just him. He's super friendly and willing to help whenever you need it best English teacher after coming from Roche (horrible).
It's been 8 years since I graduated from NHS, and I've found myself thinking lately which teachers have impacted my life the most, especially in my professional career. Mr. Emery tops the list. I only briefly worked in a creative field, but I find myself using the knowledge I learned in his classes on a daily basis. I often wish I had spent more time outside of class asking for his wisdom and advice. Listen, take notes, and participate in his classes. Teachers like him are few and far between.
In the first few months of HEL, I thought I was destined to hate English forever, even though I've always loved and been great in the subject. HEL is an extremely difficult but rewarding class, and Emery is probably the best teacher to teach it. He is insightful, intelligent, and always willing to explain why he grades the way he does. The first few months suck but once you get the hang of the HEL terminology, essays and tests will get much easier. ALWAYS take notes on what Emery says.
This class is insanely difficult and he gives out so much homework its crazy. He thinks seniors do no have a life and spend their days doing homework for his class because he gives out so much
This man is a reincarnation of Shakespeare. He sees things in text you would never see even if your life depended on it. HEL and APEL are hard so what people come before have said aren't lies. But pay attention, take notes, do HW, don't bs anything, and you are guranteed a "B". Do ec, try a little harder, and an "A" is definitely possible. He'll provide help outside of class if you ask for it. Very helpful teacher and definitely not a waste of time. I felt smarter leaving his class.es.
He is extremely awkward and it is very obvious that he prefers asian girls. He is very stubborn and rigid and his class is very difficult. He is at times rude and overall not at all approachable due to his social awkwardness. I never make eye contact with him at class because that is even more awkward with him. I am glad my one year with him is over.
Mr. Emery is a great teacher and you learn a lot in his class. Yes, it is awkward to talk to him at times but you still get the answer you are looking for. He loves students who participate in class and talk to him outside of class to show interest.
I don't know if he is married( he doesn't wear a ring), but he is a great teacher, very helpful! He is tall, skinny, funny, smart and genuinely a great guy. His tests are hard though, but you learn a lot. I really hope he gets married, and has a kid.
Such a nice guy, will help you with anything you need almost all the time. He's a bit awkward but in a great way and you can tell he genuinely loves english.
Amazing teacher for HEL. One of the smartest teachers I've met. Totally willing to read essays all the way through to help you with any concerns. Class discussions are super helpful and meaningful and almost never randomly calls on people, which is great for shy people. Tests are extremely difficult so take detailed notes during class discussions.
I love emery. he's a bit awkward and talks really slow, but he's a great teacher. he loves to observe and people-watch. he obviously cares about his students and teaching. and yes, his favourites tends to be girls. easy to talk to.
Mr. Emery is one of the most intelligent people I have ever met. Our class discussions are always very meaningful because he asks questions that really force you to think; I recommend taking notes during class discussions in order to make preparation for essays easier. Although his class is very challenging, it is also very effective in improving reading and writing skills. Outside of class, he is available quite often to answer questions. Overall, Mr. Emery is a great teacher.
Mr. Emery is great! Had him for 2 years, and he's definitely a hard grader but you learn alot about literature and writing if you make the effort. Very easygoing, too
One of the best English teachers I ever had, even though his class was definitely not easy. He is always willing to take time after school to help students with their essays.
His class was not easy but hands down mr. emery is my favorite teacher!
I LOVE HIM. he will love you more if youre a girl though
he's really good at writing and his class is just easy going and fun. its not that stressful of a class even in honors. and he definitely improves ur writing and stuff :)
Mr. Emery's an over all awesome teacher who really cares and analyzes little things, which makes the class really a laid back and open, yet insightful environment. Easy for 9th humanities.
I loved mr emery when I had him a few years ago. heard he had an infatuation with a freshy-graduated student a few years back? regardless, he's been my favorite teacher at nhs.
Great jazz teacher and english teacher. I enjoy his class.
Mr. Emery made me like English again! He is intelligent, enlightening, and makes students comfortable with joining a discussion. No one gets alienated. Plus, his awkwardness is hilariously funny.
Mr. Emery is by far the best English teacher I have ever had. He is intelligent, engaging and brings English literature to life. I'm an English major in college thanks to him!
He's a great teacher, smart nice. asks questions that require in depth analysis. the tests are tricky. if you need help, don't be afraid to ask just be prepared for a long line. hard essay grader
I think Mr. Emery's great. He's got humor and brain. What more do you need to make your class worthwhile? :)
brilliant, intelligent teacher. you learn so much from him; i feel enlightened after every class discussion. really inspirational. great personality, very approachable. ask for help, he'll def help you
amusing, perceptive, genuine, friendly. i take c. writing. he obviously loves lit and is concerned about making us better writers. i really love his thoughtful/creative assignments; help me a lot.
BEST TEACHER EVER. his class is challenging and i've learned SOOO much in his class i love Mr. Emery. Freakin awesome man.
Even though Mr. Emery's H Euro Lit class was at times a little slow, I learned so much from it. He's really helpful if you talk to him outside of class and he's pretty lenient with rounding if you can convince him. By the way, don't make the mistake of giving him candy for Christmas like I did!
coolest class ever. We have fun and still learn more then all the other Honors Euro Lit. Classes. He is a great teacher.
Terrific Jazz musician and teacher. A very cool guy, very laid back, very wise. Two thumbs up.
Mr. Emery Rocks!! Been fortunate to have him two years. Tons of Homework...Must go do it now...
Emery's the man!! For some reason i get the feeling he hates me though
Emery is a great teacher, he is hard but it is well worth it. He is the best teacher I have ever had...
Great MB coach. I remember last year, when everyone wanted to know what 'moxi' meant, he took the microphone and screamed, "HUUUU-AAAAHHH!!!!" That was sweeeet.
Awsome teacher..I loved his class and he's the coolest pearson
plays favorites(i got a 0/30 for missing a quiz, another kid ditched to wash his car and emery gave him a 10/10 for being in the school play)
Took H Euro Lit. 1 of the coolest teachers. His mult. choice "quests" are hard, but they prepare you for the AP English exam. Study HARD and DO HW to get an A.
Great in jazz band too. He always knows how to make it interesting
a teacher, who unlike most others, makes you feel good about yourself.
HAHA. i don't know if he's a good teacher but he's a great marching band coach~!
"happy birthday, now to celebrate your b-day why don't you buy me pizza!"
so cool and laid back...and what r u ppl talkin about? u can bs his hw in 5m
His "babble" is insightful and creates a comfortable learning environment.
He gives to much homework recently.. kewl guy though
probably the most laid back insightful useful english teacher i've had at nhs
