Your grade does not determine a teachers teaching nor does it define a teacher. She's passionate about Korean culture, is well experienced, active in all or most school activities and gives disciplinary actions BASED ON students' actions. Everyone cheats in every class.. But there is no teacher who cares and is attentive to her students like her.
After reading some of the reviews, I've got to agree with why this teacher is horrible. I'm a parent and looking through aeries, I could not see grades and projects that my child did. I have also spoken with her and when I asked about the problems I found in the class, she got extremely defensive. As I was trying to discuss some issues, she then started to ignore me. Some people just are not meant to teach and it's sad that this school does nothing about it.
people are saying that others are only giving her a bad score cause they got a bad grade in her class. i got an A yet I know she is the worst teacher ive ever met. the only reason i got an a is because i can speak fluent korean. she always speaks in korean and i felt really bad for anyone who couldnt speak korean before going to her class. i know so many people who have cheated and who have kissed up to her and they all got an A. watch out cause she starts crying and talking about her divorce!!
She focuses on having good character and being a better person. Don't lie, cheat, or steal. Learn to respect your parents (though Korean culture) etc. She's great.
Many students are complaining for terrible reasons. They're the bad students and because they received a poor score, they relay the wrong information about a very passionate and intelligent teacher. Ms. Shin cares a lot about all her students. She loves what she teaches, she tries to integrate new methods, and at the end of the day, you're happy you have such a great person as your Korean teacher.
Amazing teacher who is not selfish and is always caring to each individual. She never disregards anyone who is at a low level of Korean. People who "kiss up" are actually who go to her and ask for help? I don't understand why anyone would write terrible reviews because of the terrible grade they EARNED. If you do the work, ask her for help, you receive help, therefore get the grade you deserve.
She's super passionate about Korea! She's knowledgeable and funny too. Sunny Hills is so blessed.
She was OK. Agreed that she is disorganized, but not as bad as other reviewers make her to be.
Worst teacher ever!! Is there no one else who can teach this class? Is this school so desperate they have to keep her, don't waste your time choose another language class anything or anyone will be better than this crappy class.
Did all these people drink haterade? She's chill and you'll learn.
minus 300 for getting one wrong in a fcking 10 points homework really betch?
Where do I even begin.
Ms. shin does not even input the grades correctly into aeries and lost at least three of my homework assignments as well as other students'.
She cried more than twice in a semester.
During the first semester of Korean 1, Ms. Shin did not teach numbers, days of the week, or most of the basic things, rather the less important, until the week before the finals.
Ms. Shin gives am irrelevant lecture to the class at least every other day.
Gj if you get her.
Ms.Shin is a great teacher.. but sometimes she can forget stuff. Like losing homework can be one, or not putting in your grade when you actually DID it. I pretty much ended up with a C- because she thought i lost my homework after giving it to her. SHe is FREAKN NICE AND CHILL. No matter what grade you have. She is like a second mother. Good luck tho, she doesnt speak english that much and her tests dont really make any sense sometimes. ^__^ Good luck !
I like her. Forget all hatersssss.
Ew. Never take this class if you wanna learn. SIKE
Esther Shin.... Where do I even begin? Oh right, SHE CANNOT EVEN TEACH! Ms. Shin consistently loses assignments and bases grades on her mood, not the student's effort and totally disregards her student's needs. I PERSONALLY DO NOT RECOMMEND HER AT ALL, DO NOT TAKE THIS LANGUAGE CLASS. Take some other class, but Korean at Sunny Hills is a bad idea.
Do not take this class if you want to learn a language. Do take this class if you want to be lectured like a five year old. Worst teacher ever, enough said.
a very active teacher. willing to help out anything you're struggling with. just show your effort and respect. learn to cope with her and vibe with her! overall easy class and an outstanding teacher.
plus she's funny/enthusiastic/serious/good at discipling
Ms. Lee is always lecturing us with a lot of life lessons regarding how you should respect adults, do well in school, and to work hard. It's not a difficult class if you're.. actually studying. If you rather fly by a language class - this is not the class for you. If you don't understand something, ask on that spot and understand it the best of your abilities. She's always encouraging and wants the best for her students. :) She's awesome.
Never Never never take Korean Class at Sunny Hills. You will ruin your grade and can't got to college you want to. Mrs. Shin (=Mrs. Lee) is impossible to deal with since she doesn't put any grade into system. You don't know why you are getting bad grade. Even though you give her homework, she won't update your grade. This class is total waste of time. Not learning much other than singing and cooking some Korean food. Please don't take a chance. Not worth anything!!
She's a good person, who has a desire to be an influential teacher, and someone who really loves her students.
She's an encouraging teacher. Her homework is repetitive but easy. Do the work.. get the grade. She's always at school and willing to help too.
She's awesome.. :) Everyone is tripping.. she's not as bad as people say she is. They just probably got in trouble by her LOL
It's a routine. We have chapters, we learn them, and we have projects from time to time. It's not easy and I have to admit her class is pretty challenging. If you're not down to actually spend time studying and you think it's an easy A - think again. She's an awesome person, though. She actually cares for the students and lectures on important manners that some students STILL don't understand after being taught it more than 100000x times. I love her. Class is always chill time after studying.
Mrs. Shin is really funny and someone you would want to get along with...unless she's angry. If you are Korean, she'll expect you to know some to advance Korean. If you're Asian, she'll expect you to learn the language quickly, and if you're not Asian, she'll definitely give it her all to help them out. You'll do a lot of writing her in class, and you must pay attention in her class or else she'll be stressed out and give a 20 minute lecture about respecting adults.
Ms. Shin is awesome. If you practice, do the work, get good grades.. surprise, surprise! You get an A. :) And if you're not a Korean speaker.. at all.. she's always available to help you out and tutor you.
She gives a load of homework and practice, but grades all of it. I didn't think she graded, but she is actually a really heart-filled motivating teacher who wishes the best for her students. You have to put your effort and your time in taking this class because it's not an "easy a". She has no bias, and is extremely caring to all her students. She is equal in all aspects, and will teach you lessons about her life to remind you that school is not only about grades but about the person you become.
Anyone who graded her high is probably a kiss up who buys her food and stuff to get A's. Mrs. Shin is super disorganized, and doesn't even really check the work we turn in. You can slack of the whole class and just make it up by doing extra credit packets, volunteering in KCN or just helping her after school. She is bipolar and she gets mad if no one calls her or email her on the day she is absent. I have no idea how she is the president of anything, or how she lectures at USC and etc.
I love Ms Shin. She is loving, caring, willing, and passionate.
She has a passionate heart to teach. She is extremely attentive to those who are foreigners (but who is that to blame.. when all the koreans are taking korean) I learned a lot and learned a lot of manners. Korean is a easy language when you're being taught by funny, cute, Mrs. Shin :)
Sometimes she's really kind, and other times she's just pure evil. When she gives a lesson she keeps going on task and she reteaches what the whole class already knows. She gives us homework assignments and she loses them a few days after and she doesn't even have a proper grading system. She sometimes makes homework assignments worth more than tests and the homework is pretty small. She needs to get her priorities straight.
I learned a lot from her class. She molds minds and personalities.
She's amazing. She teaches morals, of how to be a good daughter/son, and a student. I grew as a person, learning from her class. My Korean improved tremendously. She has a lot of homework, and projects but if you took them as seriously as I did, you learn without even knowing that you learned. I'm glad she was one of my teachers. She's a great person.
Mrs Shin is THE worst teacher ive ever had in my life. She doesnt give out actual grades, an A or a D based on how she likes you.She assigns USELESS homework. She often cries and complains about her life in korean, so no one can understand her.She sometimes spends a whole period lecturing a class about something another class/person did.1ce she cried when no one emailed her when she was sick 1 day.She has no teaching plans, just makes things up as she goes along.no1 has respect for her.PLZFIRE HER
Mrs.shin is a troll she has mood swings its friken ridiculous lol i dont even learn anything dont take korean at all. but sometimes shes fun so yea
has a passion for teaching. knows how to simplify material to an easier understanding level. i gained a lot of knowledge. i don't know why should moved down to such a lower level..
I believe that her teaching strategies are great. She has a heart for teaching and to be quite frank, she deserves to teach IB instead.
The fact that this district hired her makes me question our education system. Kinda easy class but you won't learn any Korean, so when its time for Korean 3 you're screwed.
I'm trying to be nice :l thought she was great at first. Man, was I wrong.
Couldn't really wait to get out of her class. She wasn't oriented toward teaching her students, assigned pointless homework. (Write 30 words that have no meaning for you ten times each in Korean.) If
Uhm, if you don't care about learning and only care about chilling in class, then take her class. If you actually care about learning, take another class because she will make your life miserable.
she actually wants to help..i am learning so much korean ._. she knows how to grab your attention...she doesnt only teach life lessons but i learn a lot from her academically too she freaking rules ..
she expects us to help her all the time and talks about her life 24/7. she is so unorganized. she looses our homework and then she gives her favorite students A's and others D's and F's.
she is awesome, christmas caroling may be a bummer at times but you i have to admit i learned a lot. taking her class was probably one of the best decisions i made in high school
Mrs. Shin is The absolute definition of an abysmal teacher. Her class is easy if you know Korean to begin with. She gives a lot of hw and complains about it. Her grades are based on favoritism.
she's always so hyped up. the amount of hw she gives is.. just overwhelming.
she expects us to think shes the greatest teacher/person you've ever met. she tries to 'council' us & give us a life lesson during her class. if you dont, she feels sad and starts to cry & hate you.
she does not know how to teach efficiently. she is a cool person but she is too koreanized sometimes.
