Easy class. All you have to do is turn around and study the material. He often only looks at one side of the class room, so you have to turn around and raise your hand to get his attention. When actually writing codes, you have to turn around and know what each part is so when he turns around to test you, you will be ready. Most importantly, he is nice and wants you to turn around and have at it.
Great teacher, great class. Better class than my first two semester of college. Super boring lecture, I sleep the second half of every lecture, but still great class. Helpful and knowledgeable.
He's alright. This is my 2nd year with Mr. Peck; I had him last year for Java and this year for APCS. He is pretty smart and comes from a great background (he claims to have worked for NASA and helped write a coding language). He seems intimidating at first, but he's a pretty nice guy and will try to help you. One thing to note is that he has a super monotone voice that will instantly put you to sleep during his lectures; my biggest challenge has been staying awake.
Had him for java like 5 yrs ago. Hated it, but now I'm a cs major. If you didn't like peck's class (he's not the best teacher trust me, most of my cs professors in college were clearer/more entertaining than him), that doesn't mean you should give up on cs!
Lectures are often long and tedious. He talks about computer science as if everyone is a programmer. Not very helpful and acts mockingly sarcastic when he's upset with someone. I got an A but Peck's not a good teacher. He's an absolute genius though.
He's a tough teacher and won't take you lightly, but if you are hardworking and intelligent, you'll find that he's an extremely bright teacher and can answe just about anything you ask him. Class is pretty hard, but study, don't cheat, you're fine.
he may be mean to you at times, but just know that he's not gonna hold a grudge against you. yeah, java was kinda hard, but its just a hard subject overall. his lectures = naptime. he's a genius.
good teacher. if you have him for java, he may be confusing at first. he's awesome for apcs. have at it!
its a challenging class, but you can still get an A in it if you work hard...lectures are LONG LONG LONG but if you ask him for help, he helps you on the labs
I think he is a very smart man (approaching genius), and he is good at teaching, but is pretty mean to students sometimes, he has to work on his people skills.
he's like a robot, not kidding. if you need help on anything he would sit by you and walk you through the whole thing, which is one thing i like about him, but his homework assignments and tests are so hard.... at least for me.
had him for Java and CS. I think it will be really hard to find a better teacher. CS is like a subject that teaches you to think more computer like. It is not always a easy thing to do. Mr. Peck does a great job. Lectures are sometimes boring, but hey! every teacher has boring lectures. Labs are just soo fun. As long as you pay attention in class, and don't do stupid things, he'll be nice to you.
nice person w/ a nice personality.Labs may be challenging attimes. Contrary to what others have said,I think his lectures are rather interesting. He always has some entertaining remarks to make in his lectures:) He's not always very approachable though, maybe b/c when you ask him a question, his gets this confused facial expression, and also the fact that everyone else in the class is so smart
People fall asleep during his lectures all the time. He's actually very smart, and very knowledgeable. If you're a computer geek/nerd, ask him a random question during tutorial or something and he'll have an answer right off the bat. Oh, and printing in his room is free ^.^
Had him for java. His lectures are sooo boring because he was just using what we were learning from as his "lecture guide." He's really smart, so if you got a question, you should ask him when working. Smart people would want to ask for his help and he would basically do the entire thing for you! One of my friends did that all the time, and so the time would run out, and that guy got his work done
Very helpful when he gets around to helping you (only one of him, and lots of questions :) ). Lectures are a bit boring, but the actual computer time rocks.
I don't know about AP CS and Java, but for Chem H, Peck is NOT a good teacher. It is impossible for me, impossible I tell you, to listen to his mind-numbingly boring lectures. Also, the online reviews for unit tests often have nothing to do with the actual test questions. So many people think he is an easy teacher, but I think that has more to do with almost all the students in his class being workaholics.
In APCS class was a joke if you knew enough Java although only ~1% of all his students knew that much. But still a good class. Don't take notes during lecture (unless u have no memory - buy some RAM; it's cheap nowadays), because it's easier w/o notes.
its kinda not fair that everyone who has APCS didnt take Java, because he is a great teacher
Mr. Peck is GREAT! He is extremely helpful if you ask him for help and his class is not really too hard, although I was at an disadvantage from not taking java before. His lectures are EXTREMELY BORING, but talk to him, he's a really nice guy. =D
im like computer-disabled and i got a high A., very easy class :)
taking java as a freshman was hard...but i still managed an A in the class. Lectures are truelly boring, i mean i sleep thru them all the time!
what you mean he doesnt encourage questions? when you ask him a question its like hes prepared a 5 page essay in his head on it... plus his quizes are basically embedded information from the lecture so if u sleep in u get a worse grade.
good class to sleep in. during the lectures. i like how he helps us most when he isnt lecturing.
iono what's wrong with you guys, i think he's really nice and helpful. class is usually really interesting
u need to ask him for help, but he always goes off on a tangent. the tests are kinda hard and have really random questions
knos his stuff.. but i dun realli understand his lectures.. but hes alrite
Good teacher. Boring lectures. He also tends to over explain if you ask questions. He will explain for about 3 minutes after you understood what he was saying.
AP computer science was so hard.. he had the atmosphere that deterred me from asking questions..
umm.. as what ppl have been saying, his lectures are BOREDOM but sometimes during tests he's really helpful if you ask questions
His lectures put me to sleep, but hes a cool guy and knows the stuff well and helps if you are confused.
ehh...ok teacher i'm in his chem honors class and he seems to know his material very well but i always feel like dozing off in that class...
yea sure peck knos his stuff but lectures can get reALLi borin...sometimes when u ask question he repeats wut he just said..but i guess hes ok for me
he is cool, but all we do is lecture and lab and a quiz and a test..........
um. he's cool I guess.. the lectures can be pretty boring.. >.<
I dont think ever really talked about CS with Mr Peck. He's so knowledgeable that you feel like talking about something more interesting than C++ with him.
Lesson, lab day, quiz. Do we ever do anything else?! I hate him
his lectures kill me -_- but other than that. yayyyyyyyyy
Great guy, just never performed my best in his class
easy fun class. but sometimes the lessons are hella boring
