For English, she's frustrating, but for her elective, she's really nice and helpful as long as you do the work. I was really surprised at the difference. She does give a lot of homework and she still says one thing and expects another, but it works out because her elective is all about creativity. Overall, she a really nice woman, just don't get on her bad side.
Ms.Rizzuto is a very educated woman.
She really cares about the critical thinking level of her students and works hard to improve our reading skills.
At first she wasn't my favorite teacher but as time passed I started to understand the books we read better.
Ms. Rizzuto is not a bad person and she honestly wants you to understand the material. For me, the difficulty is pinpointing what exactly to focus on dissecting and she tells you to understand everything. You have to raise your hand at least once everyday and talk, that way she'll know if you actually understand the book. Don't feel disheartened if she criticizes your whole class and you're not doing well, just always show her you care about the material.
Ms. Rizzuto's class was VERY difficult, but it challenged me in the best ways. She's the reason that I love reading. She has a strong moral compass and I'm glad that she's strict about academic integrity. There's much that THHS students compromise because of the college-centric environment - they're more willing to cheat; they don't get a sense of the greater societal context. She's a source of wisdom against that, but could improve her delivery of critique by meeting students where they are at.
Despite what everyone says, Ms. Rizzuto is an amazing teacher. People criticize her because they are too lazy to do the work or participate. Participate, ask a lot of questions in & out of class, read the book and you will be fine. She really does care for her students who show interest and cares for the subject. When I got a failing test grade, I visited her office to ask for help and she was incredibly nice about it.She didn't count the test grade towards my average and gave me another chance.
Everyone criticizes that,Rizzuto is a bad teacher. To me she is not a bad teacher after all. Due to a fact, I actually got a 95 average in Rizzuto's class. All you have to do is read the book, dissect the important lines and most importantly, participate a LOT! As long as you do those steps, you're fine
She is very confusing and does not make sure you know what you are suppose to do, she thinks that you should already know what to do. She doesn't care if you can't read her handwriting.
Believe the hype; she's extremely difficult. She purposely tries to be mean spirited to keep up her reputation. She has a superiority complex where she feels the need to make her students feel dumb. Just float on by in her class and wait till Junior year. Her averages are based on nothing, she just gives out random grades based on what she thinks you deserve. OH and she literally collected our collateral, gave us so much stress, and never graded NOR handed them back.
Claims to have an abundance of knowledge, but spends more time criticizing students on their lackluster grades on her vague quizzes and tests than actually offering help or knowledge. Participation is key, but present anything other than her opinion, and she'll deem it worthless and you, unsatisfactory. Has potential to teach better by accepting more opinions other than her own. After all, she teaches at a prestigious high school.
I feel the grading system was really rough. The tests were also very confusing you had to recall which character was speaking to him just by looking at a dialogue!?
Her class is a major hassle most THHS students have to deal with. She is a charitable lady, what with her Project Spirit and ability to gather around students to help her (some of which are only there just to get Rizzuto to like them to hopefully boost their grade). Her class is that I call "tough love" and really prepares us for the injustices of college. She expects students to huddle around her desk and ask questions (which is useless when she tells them all to sit down), wasting class time.
Obsessed with critical thinking but doesn't let you ask any questions.
Failed students for talking outside of the classroom about a different subject
Constantly brings up how she is a "published" author yet her short story has crap reviews.
Worst human being. Shows no respect for students or human life. Demands you ask questions and be a critical thinker, but deems any deviation from her view wrong. Personally attacked students. Spends more time criticizing students than teaching.
Took her elective classes, as well as English. English was hard. The whole class got pass/fail for the Tale of Two Cities paper. Work hard and ask questions in English. She has a heart. She just doesn't like laziness. She likes to talk about world issues too, and gets pissed if you don't know about current issues. For her electives she was amazing. I did so well and learned loads. Sucks that she doesn't teach them anymore... She's freaking amazing. 8/10 ~h
She is helpful if you ask and is genuinely nice, but her class is extremely hard. she is also unimaginably strict.
Ms. Rizzuto can be strict but it is only to help students become more responsible with their work. you have to pay attention closely in class because whatever she says is like gold when it comes to her tests. during class discussions it is best to participate and take notes. her handwriting is difficult to read at times but you get used to it. She is strict when it comes to tests and quizzes which is why it is best not to be absent on the days where you know she is going to to give an exam.
She has scarred me for life. I honestly hated her class--every second of it. I do not deny that she is a good person and has done a lot, however, her threats, and the entire experience I had in that class negated this. Her class for the most part is composed of students asking questions and I honestly feel like I haven't improved any bit in my ability to write or read. More time was spent mocking our abilities than improving them.
great as a person loads of respect to her. was unusually strict (not exactly a bad thing) teaches with passion and really wants her students to gain the most out of her classes. participate and do all your work with as much e
She does not need to threaten sudents to have their attention ; and threaten them that she will embarrass them in front of others just to improve their participation. I have lectured in colleges and taught in High Schools. I
The ratings tell the whole story... I mean really, there is nothing to describe how strict she is. If she wasn't so strict, I'd probably do better.
She has her own specific idiosyncratic method of teaching. If you're a slacker, you won't make the cut. Do the reading, try your best, ask questions, and you'll be okay. Although her tests can still cause you troubles. They'r
she's cool! maybe a bit strict, and she treats you like you're in college- if you dont hand in an assignment, then dont make excuses. her elective classes are awesome! people just hate her 'cause shes the only teacher in the
Don't recommend. Takes big points off already difficult exams for writing the heading wrong or even asking questions she deems "stupid" during tests. Try not to let lack of eyebrows distract you
one of the most inspirational people i have ever had the pleasure to have as my teacher for 3 terms throughout high school (10th gr spring term english, ekphrasis, and creative writing) yes she is tough but she has taught me
She really cares about the students who try in her class. I feel like she is one of the best English teachers you can get sophomore year, since the general work load isn't that bad. Junior year is a whole other story.......
Strict teacher. Even though I read through all the books (like A Tale of Two Cities), never cheated with SparkNotes/etc., and went to all tutor sessions, I still did horribly on her tests. Participate! That was the only aspec
Like her as a person, but don't challenge her ideas and study! Know your notes, ask intelligent questions. Easy to get in a misunderstanding with her. Hard to have a one-on-one conversation. Doesn't like ideas different from
she is strict. you dont want to fool around with her. don't take the class lightly. make sure you read, do her assignments but most of all PARTICIPATE!!! i cannot stress that enough. if u do then you'll be okay, her class can
Her class is difficult and you get a lot of homework. With that said, her lessons are great and she's an intelligent woman. If you try your best it will pay off. Do ur work. Don't cheat (sparknotes) and participate.
She's a really dedicated teacher and if you like english, shes your perfect teacher. Otherwise, just do the best you can. She just wants to know your putting in the effort. If you're having trouble, just ask for help (but do
Nice lady, but won't give you the time of day to explain yourself one-on-one. As a person, she's great .. as a teacher, not so much.
hard class, participate or she'll hate you for life, but very sweet woman and very passionate about her students and teaching
She is one of the greatest teachers I have ever had. She is someone you would respect a lot. You can tell she really has a heart for the class as a teacher and gives her all to teaching English. :)
I have a lot of respect for her but when it comes to some of her collaterals, you might as well not even try. seriously.
unusual teacher to be honest. easily aggravated like other raters said. gets particularly angry if u ask questions during one her strictly structured yet incredibly vague tests. avoid if at all possible
OCD. that is all i can say. the littlest things set her off. if you get her, speak up in class and be a humanitarian and care about 9-11. That really gets her excited,
as a person ... she's great. her stories really get you thinking. as a teacher .. she's definitely intimidating. make sure you do all her work and never ever refer to sparknotes!
eccentric lady but she is a good teacher... if you are one of her favorite students
Her tests are ridiculous. She has little pet peeves and some sort of controlling complex about her.
She is really nice but if she hates you you're dead...
you cant have an opinion different from hers, lest you want to fail. her tests are absurd. never be funny in her class, she dont like funny. if you have her for bones, shes not that bad; she can get good convos going.
one of the most inspiring teachers I have ever encountered. she's a lot tougher on her english classes but still just as a great a teacher. appreciate her.
She's hard but outside of class, she is a really nice person.
shes rather difficult. most of your grade is just particpiation. i never failed a test (unlike some), and got A's on every single collateral but she still gave me my lowest grade. not a fair grader but a good teacher
Very traditional teacher. Quite difficult--gave me my lowest grade. Participate, even if you're shy. Do the homework. Her tests test obscure parts of a book. (Such as who said what to who.) Try your best here.
She's a very difficult grader, but besides that, she's a wonderful person and teacher. If you respect her and regularly do work and participate, she'll respect you right back and help you with anything you might need.
Many people give her a bad rep. but in reality, she's a pretty good teacher. She tells you what the books' meaning is and as long as you read the book and listen to what she says in class you're good.
I agree that Ms. Rizzuto is tough, but she is very nice (so long as you don't catch her on a bad day). She loves her students and really hopes that we all learn. She is also very dedicated to the Ephebic Oath project!
Ms. Rizzuto is not exactly the best english teacher you would want. She is an unfair grader (will not give higher than a 90), gives unreasonable tests, and bases her grade on participation. She thinks she is always right.
ms.rizzuto is the teacher who you either love or hate. no "in between". she really is an amazing teacher. she's full of knowledge and understanding for her students. although she's a harsh grader, she's still very helpful .
Um aint the best teacher at all... extremely negative and thinks that english is the only subject that is important.
infamus 4 her large amounts of assigned hw. but probably 1 of the best teachers n da skewl. if u ASK questions,SPEAK during SEMINARS,& FOLLOW EXACT instructions 4 writing a research paper, u'l get far
she may be strict sometimes by ms. rizutto is the wisest person i noe. She is a really interesting teacher and i love her stories about irish fairies yes :)
She's nice, but then gets all moody and that's scary T_T.
Tests and quizzes are hard. She is very ambiguous but refuses to clarify what she said because she hates repeating herself. Sometimes she doesnt tell us the answer to something and leaves us hanging
omg. so hard her class-to much work and hard tests :( thats all.
well, she has great analyzations, but i never had a good feeling from her becuase she gives off this negative aura most of the time. not my greatest term in english. she could be really sweet @ times
she has mood swings from day to day. She gives hard tests, and shes seems like shes always trying to show the class that shes the boss, she makes the rules, and u don't stand a chance, even if your right.happy Im out of there
she tries to hide her lack of teaching ability by making a big deal about trivial "rules"- such as not using "like". gives really nasty looks and very condescending. NOT VERY GOOD TEACHER
by far, the best teacher ive had in townsend harris. she listens to what everyone has to say, and she is very considerate. Ms Rizzuto is an amazing teacher.
Her tests are hard. very hard [yes?] ask questions if you want but all shel tell you is to look it up yourself [yes?] dont expect her to tell you what to type into the search engine. discussions=great
Her tests are super hard....but her class discussion is very interesting. I liked English when I had her.
most dedicate teacher in THHS. she loves what she does
Mrs Rizzuto is definately not the easiest teacher, but I always looked forward toher class. The discussions are really interesting...as long as you do the work and participate. She is the sweetest person ever!
She isn't the easiest teacher and she does have favorites, but her class discussions are always interesting. If you participate and actually read the books, her class won't be so bad. She obviously loves what she does.
had her all of soph year and it was great! the readings were more challenging in soph year but she helped me get through them. her tests are a little bit tricky and she's a tough grader. participate!
Her class was not a favorite. She's a good teacher, but the books were quite dull. But then again, that isn't really her fault.
As mean as her mean side is, she's not as mean as a French teacher I had when I lived in Ireland, so there are worse! Tests are rock. (Seriously, this French teacher, An Diabhail!)
i can't decide whether i like her or not. she seems very sweet but throws so many surprise quizzes that you get the feeling that she wants you to fail
Ms. Rizutto is so nice, and very helpful, but to get her help you have to take the initiative to ask. She's so nice, but her tests are close to impossible!
i love rizzuto, she is an amazing teacher, makes you really understand the books you are reading and learn to love everything, best english teacher i have ever had
great lady, awesome teacher, works you but also teaches you
mixed feelings. knows her stuff, good teacher, kind person, lots of work, at times belittles you, not as herd as everyone says-do your work and participate
She really cares about her students and knows every book inside-out. You really learn a lot from her, and she is a remarkable woman.
Ms. Rizzuto makes it clear during class of what needs to be done for hw or classwork and I find that a respectable trait in her.
She really is the best teacher i have ever meet. Did you know that she goes to the library everyday to look up questions her students had problems w/. DEVOTION
If you're not one of her favorites, you're screwed. But work hard and you'll get the grade you deserve.
even though she can be tough at times, she is a great teacher who has much knowledge and an extemely effective teacher
a great woman with a strong presence. too bad the tests are all based on details that she destroys all the classics that have been loved for centuries.
a sweet person who cares. too bad we get so wrapped up in ridiculous details by the end of the term u forget everything you ever learned.
Dear future students interested in taking AP US history that has ms.R...U BETTER HOPE U DO WELL IN THIS CLASS AND BE DILIGENT
She's tough, but she's also very helpful and so long as you ask her and improve you'll be fine.
Shes is a really great teacher and deserves to be one, but very hard. Shes one of the best i've ever had cuz she teaches.
really good teacher, one of the few who knows how to run a classroom. challenging but never busy work. teaches you a lot about writing and lit
Ms Rizzuto is super hard, but worse UNFAIR. She takes of ten points if you don't put your pen down when she says so, and all her tests are so subjective.
