He doesn't teach; he is absent often and gives out handouts from future chapters or makes you take useless video notes on the days he's absent. He grades everything, especially the handouts, very hard and it WILL demolish your grade. You WILL fail his tests even if you study the "notes". You need 4 notebooks for his class and you WILL lose points. Elemental Adventure is useless and a complete waste of time and it will stress you out. He hates dumb questions and academically challenged people.
Mr. Hill's great, but, a freshman fainted today in class after taking the final for this semester. Now you know have proof of why everyone says he's a hard teacher. HAVE FUN class of 2020. :)
Absolute worst teacher I have ever had. Has not taught his IB chemistry class a single thing this entire year, and attempted to cover the entire syllabus in the week before the IB exam but failed miserably. Very likely that many people will fail the exam. Is not knowledgeable whatsoever (doesn't even know what enthalpy is, does not have an answer to any questions you may ask) and also condescending and hostile towards students. Amazing that he has not been fired yet.
Have fun with EA (That was a joke. It isn't possible.).
Not consistent or organized at all. Does not use the textbook, therefore leaving students to study the minimally distributed and rarely practiced handouts. No teaching method established. Majority of the tests contain material students were not even introduced to. Too much "busy work" from the multitude of packets passed out; none of the material on the packets was ever fully taught. The most help I received in this class was from a substitute, not the instructor.
The class is hard, no doubt, but Mr.Hill know his stuff and is great at teaching the class. He may make fun of you but understand he does this to everyone. Study hard for the tests, take your time on them. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE ON EA.
If you want your A your not going to have a life. Good luck.
Well first of all, he picks favorites. He never gets people's names down (nor seems to care). Doesn't teach very well and gives impossibly hard tests. He also grades very un-justly. Beware.
All of the upperclassmen gave me a completely wrong impression of Mr. Hill -- he IS kind of scary and sassy and is definitely not someone to be messed with, but by the end of the year, you'll realize that he isn't nearly as bad as people make him out to be. Most of the kids genuinely enjoyed his class. He's actually a very kind person, just be a good student, study a lot, and don't procrastinate on EA and you're set. You definitely have to work for an A in his class, but it's not impossible.
DO NOT PROCRASTINATE ON EA. thats probably the most useful advice i can give. take all his sass and keep your head up. he will humiliate u and make a big deal out of all mistakes but just let it slide. he doesnt like freshman. his tests are SUPER hard so study a lot.
Mr. Hill will seem very very scary at the beginning of the year, almost unapproachable. He takes some time to get used to, but once you get used to him and his bad teaching skills, you will do fine in the class. I love him as a person, but his teaching is too basic for the extremely difficult tests he throws at us. Good luck in his class everybody!
At first, I was a little scared of Mr. Hill because of the rumors of how hard his class was. I never needed to study for tests prior to his class and I still got great grades. After failing the first test, I actually began studying harder and eventually started doing pretty well in his class. Just make sure you listen to what he says (he's really specific on directions) and study hard and you'll be fine. He honestly is a good teacher, one of my favorite, but he takes some getting used to.
Mr. Hill is quite awesome. Even though the Elemental Adventure can ruin one's grade, I still enjoy his class and how he teaches. If you have a problem, just talk to him. He can be very understanding. He is not as hard as everyone claims but always STUDY for his tests. They are very challenging.
Mr. Hill is awesome!!! I love him. Probably the reason for that is because I am on his good side. If you can, be on his good side and you will go far in his class. I like him a lot because he actually knows what he is talking about. He is really knowledgeable, smart and has an awesome accent. For anyone that he dosen't like though, good luck on getting an A.
Horrible, he is very hostile and as i have heard before "He fry's freshmen like bacon and eats them for dinner." Good luck all you IB students
He is quite unapproachable and likes to tease and ridicule his students. He knows his material inside and out, and his lectures are interesting in my opinion, however, it's hard to learn when you are in such a hostile environment. If you can't keep up or understand (like me) you WILL struggle inevitably. I would get a tutor or switch to Bach chem if possible. If staying, do your work, don't be stupid, and keep it totally professional. Don't speak unless spoken to. Try to get on his good side
This is the 100th rating. *sniff sniff*. We should celebrate this historic moment.
Extremely intense class. I don't know how other children get A's...(and A+'s for that matter). But somehow. They do. I am not one of them, desafortunadamente.
He's a pretty good teacher. The tests are pretty hard and unexpected, to be expected from an IB class. However, he's a cool guy outside of class, and he's the head of the national science bowl team.
good teacher. strict but not as intidimating of a class as i head heard it to be...
just sit next to someone smart who cann help u out:)
He is a very hard teacher, very very difficult class and tests. You really have to EARN your A if you want it.
He loves everyone that is not a Freshman :) hahahaha He is really cool to me and my friend, and makes jokes. Not very strict until you mess with him. Not easy, and pretty hard, but you learn a lot. oh and i should be doing my EA right now.. oppps
he is a man who does not understand what students need
Not pleasant. Very demanding not fair etc. tests extremely harshly
No matter how much you study, extremely hard class. However, he bumps up grades in the end. Quite lazy, but loves juniors. Love his sense of humor and stories, but doesn't teach what we need to know
I am shocked with all these negative reviews. Mr. Hill may have seemed daunting, but he's pretty flexible and his class isn't that hard to studious students. He did cover most material and did it well
The thing about Mr. Hill's class is that it's scary when you're there, but then you always laugh about it later. His class is not easy at ALL, but you learn a lot.
tough class but if u pay attention and take good notes u will do fine. has a really dry sense of humor. also u wanta stay on his good side or he will joke with you. he hates stupid questions and REALL
He puts things on the test that he never taught and chooses favorites. If he decides not to like you, then for the rest of the year your life will be miserable in his class. No help if you ask questi
tough. Either forgets to teach things or purposely puts things on tests that we were supposed to know when it was impossible to know about it.
well, i think most of the bad rating are from freshmen, just so you know, he hates freshmen but loves seniors and juniors. his class is difficult nonetheless
Mr. Hill is the most knowledgable science teacher on campus, but he is also really tough, so he helps to assert natural selection in the IB Program
Funny man, and one of the smartest people I know. He does rely on prior knowledge and ppts, but just ask for help and he'll answer anything. This was my FAVORITE class last year. Not easy, but awesome
In the beginning of the year, I thought that I would just have to get accustomed to the teaching style and that he was actually a truly good teacher. But he relies too much on prior knowledge/ppt....
Very good teacher. Although he is tough and some people dont like him, i believe it will be worth it in the end...
Although his class is difficult, it is rewarding nonetheless. He is a great teacher. I don't understand why people are scared of him.
Mr. Hill is a person you can decide whether or not to be scared of. He's my favorite. The class may be challenging but he's funny. He will explain if you ask. Just listen intently, ask qs and breathe!
GREATEST TEACHER ON CAMPUS!!! sometimes little shaky but after your not in his class hes a really kool dude!!!
Hes a bad teacher in class, but awesome when you ask him otherwise, and he is really honest....and funny..
His class is hard, but he likes specialization in knowledge. He really hates stupid questions and people who don't listen to his instructions, so DON'T do it. Good teacher fun guy later on.
really good teacher, but that's about it. really rude, and couldn't care less. dry sense of humor
His class us super hard but hes a pretty good teacher even though sometimes he forgets that'll we're not as smart as him and makes us feel stupid.
Very difficult class, intimidating, and rude sometimes. But he is a good teacher.
I'll admit, he's a pretty good teacher, but he is soo mean to his students! He always picks on his students and gets mad if you don't do what you're supposed to. Also, he is NOT a morning person.
Mr. Hill teaches Honors Chemistry extremely well. It is a difficult class, but you will do fine as long as you keep up. It was one of my favorite classes Freshman year and hope IB Bio is just as fun.
I don't at all deny that he doesn't know the material, that's not the problem at all, i think it's the way he presents it and how intimidating (not to mention mean) to students that he can be
yeah he just loves to humilate and put people down. He never smiles or laughs either.
I struggled in his Honors Chem class a bit. He was a challenging teacher and he really knows the material. But he needs to stop humiliating kids, though. No one can learn in a hostile environment.=(
The key to this class is keeping up, because sometimes he expects u to know it from minimal explanation. Its easy to nto do well, but if u keep up, u can do well. The hardest part is asking him questions.
the most skillfull teacher there. head of the national level science bowl team. he's cool
um he teaches chemistry and biology. the ib program sucks. he was my favorite teacher. gives you good like advice like not swearing in class.
Hill needs to learn how to actually teach. Ussually he gives out way too much homework in one night, and he has a tendency of making bizarre tests that are too confusing to answer.
He hated me, maybe because I was a freshman. I was looking forward to honors chem so much and he made me scared to go to class. :( I guess he is nicer to juniors though...
Needs to learn that its not cool to be so mean. I respect Mr. K so much more. They should make Mr. Hill teach just 1 ESL or regular class so he can be grateful to teach us IB kids.
Hes a hard teacher. I wish he'd give back quizes back to learn our mistakes before he gives out tests. The questions u missed on the quizes r usually on the test. Thats so annoying
He's a hard teacher, but a good one. He tells good stories when he does and its fun to be in his class. He may be frightening and intimidating, but its worth it if u bear with him.
He's pretty intimidating at first but MUCH nicer out of class if you ever need to talk to him. He's a great teacher even though he has high expectations.
He's nuts and his class is really difficult but I've learned alot so I'd give him a thumbs up, although he's really not my cup of tea.
I would like to set the record that Mr. Hill has been gone for a long time because of family matters that he couldn't help. Talk to him even if he scares you.
mr hill is one of the few teachers i respect from mira loma. he is a million times the teacher mr K is.
Was intimidating for some I'm sure, but seeing as I laughed through much of his class, I mostly remember his sarcatic humor. Not the best but good none the less
Mr. Hill is one of those teachers you got to give time to know. At first you may hate him like i did, but when you give him time, things change and you like him
Even though he's hard and somewhat intimidating, he let me make-up a test a day later, just because I was out of the country and didnt do any work. understandin
Mr Hill is the most adorable man i know.... he is so uberly awesome it is fantastic. He is really really nice, and is a wonderful person.
mr hill has always been both loved and hated. he has really mellowed out as a teacher and really makes students see what's important.
He has missed over 3 school weeks. I would expect better in an IB class. He is unapproachable and he knows it. He is mean beyond reason.
Mr. Hill the person is pretty ok. Mr. Hill the teacher is terrible. The class is very hard and he espects you to know more than you do.
Altho his name will always strike fear into my heart, this funny, well organized man did a great job assuring I knew Bio. Prepares you well, esp compared Bio 2.
i'm a freshman, and mr. hill doesn't REALLY scare me, cuz i know he's messin wit us, and i think it'z cool...but people shouldn't be scared
His class is hard but worth it just to be his student. Next to Wofford, he is the best teacher I've had.
He's a funny guy, and you learn a lot in his class. But he's the type of teacher u appreciate more when ur not in his class anymore
He likes to terrorize freshmen, but he gets nicer (and funnier) He's very helpful, that is if you can understand what he says (for fun, ask him to say oil)
Mr. Hill is a good teacher, you actually learn something in his class. Sometimes he has a good sense of humor, but his class is pretty hard.
