JJ Whels was a decent AP Euro teacher. He's exceedingly passionate about history and government and his lectures contain a ton of information, even things you don't need to know. Also know you will probably fall asleep once or twice (he talks basically nonstop all period). His tests are pretty hard but he gives like six point curves so no one should be complaining. Just be prepared and do the work and you'll do alright on the AP test.
Fun fact- His middle name is Joseph
Had him several years ago. Knowledgeable and effusively passionate about the content matter, and straightforward about his course's difficulty. Obviously not an easy A type, but certainly an earnest instructor.
Genuinely good guy, knows a lot about government and history. He does his job. In, out, done.
Out of all the AP Euro teachers, you'll find that Whelan is definitely the best, but you also have to look at who he's competing with. His exams are very, very difficult, and many incoming 10th graders will learn the art of the cram in very painful ways. In many ways, you'll find that the textbook is actually doing the teaching, which is something that I disagree with. His lectures are decent, but will put even the best students to sleep. He prepares you for the AP well if you do well in class.
he yelled at me at the beginning of the yr, not a good impression since now i dont want to be in his class. he is very vague about the homework and never hole punches the paper.
He shadily picks favorites and while is very informative, I feel as though the textbook is actually my teacher in this class. -Mary Tudor
I thought his lectures were informative and interesting. Unfortunately I sat in the front--an outright pain because I abhor sitting in the front. But it surprised me that other people didn't find his lectures interesting--if you don't like them, don't take the course. Tests were fair, but he blatantly chose favorites...and uncomfortably so.
really difficult tests, but his lectures are absolutely amazing. he has amusing jokes but he can pick out the people who don't really appreciate his work and the subject. best AP teacher ever; he really knows what he's teaching. the lectures will almost certainly boost your AP grade a level higher. if you don't listen...your loss. but the lectures are extraordinarily interesting nonetheless.
From what i have seen so far, he is a very good teacher, and very willing to help you understand. Care about the class, and he will care about you.
Very weird guy, but he's really funny and his stories keep the class interesting. I envy his daughter Kaylee for having him as a built-in tutor for the class.
he is hard. he knows his stuff. he talks a lot. show that you care about your work and put effort in, and he'll give you the benefit of the doubt.
Very intelligent man, knows his stuff. Very intimidating, knowledgable about his topics. Fast paced teacher-- Do not join his classes if you're a procrastinator
hard, but great teacher. don't join class if ur stupid.
Most amazing teacher, interesting guy, love his stories
