Locher is a pretty ok teacher he teached me a lot but could've been a lot more clear and was a weird teacher. He grades really harshly and his classes are really hard
If you're looking for a decent teacher Mr. Locher is comparable to my favorite teachers so far. He has tought much more than writing, he tought me how to handle life and its situations.
Jay is a great teacher who understands the value of work from students and will not give an A because he likes you or you think you deserve it. When you show him that you are ready to give the commitment of his hard class through more than exceptional work, you will be rewarded. I came into the class, the straight-A kid who was kind of shocked at his fierce grading, I worked hard, failed some times, but I ended with two A's, a 95% on my series essay, and a new confidence in myself.
Pushed me to the limits I didn't know I had. An incredibly hard class, but one that made me a much better writer. I think you will hear mostly, "Hard teacher, but glad I had him" and while that is true, that doesn't capture his essence. He's always available at lunch if you can muster up the courage to go there. He cares about his students and most of all, he will push you, and it may seem frustrating in the moment, but it makes writing much easier later. Also introduced me to my top 10 books!
Very creative and pushes you to be your very best. Lucky to have had Mr Locher as my English teacher.
Teaches you how to think for yourself.
A great teacher and role model
I believe you only get one favorite teacher throughout life, and for me it will always be Mr. Locher.
He is the most inspiring and knowledgeable teacher I've ever had. I learned more in his regular 9th grade English than I learned in any college or university. I will never forget him from Mount Vernon High School. He stands out among other teachers. Arguably, he is the smartest person I know.
He can't sweat, what's the deal with that?
I didn't like the class, I didn't think I learned anything, and looking back, I still think that. He was very unhelpful in writing, never clarified anything, even if you asked. I am a very strong writ
He will make you think. Want to be ready for college? Take his class. Take the "hero's journey."
He is the man. I hated him at the time, but I look back and he helped me A LOT.
His class is hard, but only if you don't actually try. My writing has improved so much since I had him as a teacher. However, I still can't watch a movie without identifying lenses and mythology.
you'll never be able to live life the same. everytime you watch a movie you go, "hmmm the hero descends into actual or metaphorical darkness" or ARCHETYPE!
Very hard class if you aren't a solid writer. However, that is the only the class has to do with english. Lot's of mythology. Lots of reading. Interesting class though.
u give us way to much class work and im sick of joseph campbell. but we write a lot and i love reading so many books!
Oh jay! I didn't care for him much but afterwards I learned what a great teacher he is.
gives a ridiculous amount of pointless homework. it was pretty much all busy work.
he is very helpful and nice yet you don't learn much english in the class...but if anyone needs help with archetypes or myths he's your guy
One of the very best teachers I ever had at VHS. He made writing interesting for once. I learned a lot more from his class than I even realized at the time.
GOOD GUY KINDA STRAGNGE GETS OVERLY INTO KIDS BOOKS AND IS HIP
This class is pretty kool...u helped me a lot w/ my writing and stuff...the only thing im not into is mythology mondays...besides that ur class is awesome
Locher is ok. His class was challanging at times, and mythology really didnt thrill me. Overall a good class.
YO JLO!!! He is a really cool guy, but the work is kinda hard.
locher is so cool. i have learned way more than i did in blackwell last year for the whole year. he is very organized, intelligent, and helpful.
I didn't really like him when I had him, but looking back he is such a sweet man.
all we have done are pointless projects, i didn't learn anything
