I had him during 2015-2016 and I can agree that his class was frustrating at times because of some assignments. He also tends to be moody throughout the year. However, he does care for his students and tries to do the best he can to help them improve their grades. There was also some fun projects throughout the year like the satire project. I think the problems are the ISNs because a lot of people over complicate it. It's use depends on the student. I actually liked his class, unlike Mr. Weeks
while I agree with the majority that he seems most of the time, tough on his students whether it is grading or giving feedbacks, I believe he genuinely cares for each student. i think the students have to be a little bit more mature to understand his implications whether those are jokes or scoldings. your vocab and presentation skills will definitely improve after a year with him. so he is not at all bad, you just need to respect him, and he'll reciprocate that respect. 1984!!!
So he was teacher of the year for Washington a few years ago...I guess that was a different time because I don't see qualities of a "teacher of the year," in this teacher. Expects too much from you when it comes to preparation. He demands a lot from his class to do by telling them to say, "good morning" to him when you go to him for help in the morning for a missing assignment or absence or else he won't listen to you. No student should be forced to give respect. It's something that's earned.
can i get a 1G in the chat?
needs more spin class stories
Horrible, horrible English teacher. Came out of the class confused and humiliated by his "personal sharing" projects that were seemingly graded based on entertainment value and popularity.
Worst teacher I have ever had, even in retrospect.
Mr. Maebori was the worse teacher I have ever had at Kentwood, he constantly threw tantrums and blamed his students for his personal problems!! !He also thought his class was more important then ANY other class. His 4th quarter outside reading project was impossible to get 100% on. That is in no way far to any students. His triple entry journals are THE worst thing. They are very time consuming to write a deep analysis and having to do 7 is nearly impossible to do and keep up with other classes.
I don't know how he won the award for best teacher in Washington a few years back. He's a complete jerk! He's supposed to be an adult but he always throws tantrums and blames his students for wasting time! He has this belief that no student should leave Kentwood with a 4.0 GPA. While that's a great PERSONAL philosophy Mr. Maebori, thousands of other teachers across the U.S. DON'T share your opinion and it only puts your students at a disadvantage for college. He's a teenager that never grew up.
I honestly do not see how anyone could dislike this man. He cares for his students and puts so much effort into guiding them to be successful. He genuinely cares and sure he can be moody but there's ALWAYS a good reason behind his mood swings. This man has taught me so much more than any other teacher and makes me feel appreciated. He is helpful, caring, smart, welcoming, hilarious and overall amazing. If he is rude to you then there is a good reason for it. Appreciate him while you have him.
For the first few months I thought he would make a great teacher. Boy was I wrong! He regularly lashes out at students and his class for no apparent reason. Obviously needs to get laid and perhaps his teaching will improve.
umm,.greatest TEACHER ever....but not the best person ever...he is moody and gets angry easily and takes his anger out on others. He wastes the period talking then blames us for wasting our time.
Wow i don't know why you guys would think that he is a bad teacher I have onlky had mr. Maebori or 2 months and i think he is a great teacher I enjoy his class and i you try your best you would enjoy it too ! :)
pretty hard class, and he gets a bit moody sometimes. However he's pretty clear about what he wants and his lessons are interesting.
Don't know how he is as a yearbook advisor, but I had this guy for english. 5 words: "Don't even get me started..." ugh.
ha wow, well i actually liked maebori and i guess im one of his favorites then. he's a good teacher, and he taught me alot and his honors class will prepare you. you just have to learn that way he is and don't be stupid.
hated his lessons and he confused everyone in the class with his backward lessons, but he's a good guy if you DON'T have his class or after you have already had it. plus the class discusions are so tight!
Some of his lessons are great and really creative! And he's funny and a good teacher. he always gives good examples, but sometimes it's hard to know what he wants you to do.
He's over-emotional and takes his personal problems out on students.
some of the stuff he does is pointless but hes a good teacher and hes funny
Thanks for your opinion Mr. M, but the ISN is busy work and I'd rather have someone else.
Really extreme person, no grey-area. He's either really nice or really strict, but it's understandable cause he has to put up with a lot. Little things like listening, saying please, etc. goes a long way in his class.
This sad excuse for an English teacher was one of the worst that I have ever had.We did nothing all year except busywork and talk about our feelings.I did not learn anything, and he should never have allowed to teach honors.
Loves to hear himself talk-you learn nothing-easy/worthless class-rewards cheaters by allowing them makeup assignments-you do singing, movie projects, and mask painting. That's about it. Incapable, ineffective.
Mr. Maebori is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He's fun to be around inside or outside class, and is an extremely caring person. He makes his expectations extremely clear on every assignment, and grades fairly.
He's indecisive, very unclear, doesn't remember why he marks us down, doesn't seem to appreciate hard work, and overall doesn't know how to teach. Maebori is possibly the worst English teacher I've ever had.
I had him for 10th grade english and now and a senior I have him for yearbook and I really like him. He's nice and really wants all of his students to succeed
His teaching methods are brilliant. By far one of the best teachers I've ever had. He made my maturity increase 110%, and my vocabulary is wonderful now.
Mr. Maebori is a cool teacher and he is funny specially when he makes fun of Mr. Kingston and some student in my class.
He's a good teacher and all, but the participation points completey slaughter the class. It makes it impossible for that 4.0 shy student to stay at a 4.0.
The best teacher possible i love he masks very clear in directions.
He's the most awesome teacher you'll ever get! He makes things fun and really cares bout his students!
Mr. Maebori is such a good teacher! If you love english, then you would love to have his class! He is such a great friend too! Luv ya Maebori!!
mr maebori is a bad teacher. he never explains assignments, when you ask him questions he rarly answers them, he makes fun of students. he makes me hate english
Always told the class stories about when he was a sports writer, and incorporated that into teaching us different writing styles. Kinda hard, but a cool guy.
The best English teacher I have ever had. I had a lot of fun in his class. I learned more from him than any of my other English teachers.Great Guy!
Dont get on his bad side. i had him last year. he will go out of his way to help, but if the class is bad he yells at everyone and therefore i can't learn.
Not great. He doesn't know how to handle a rowdy class. Sending a person to sit outside the door doesn't work anymore. Knows a lot and is nice. Good, not great.
Mr. Maebori is awesome! He explains things thouroughly, and throws in some comedy to make things easier. Excellent teacher
Favorite English Teacher I Have Ever Had. He's A Great Guy
