I had him in freshman baseball, and he really helped me study the great game of baseball. I can't wait to have him in life skills

Usually when teachers are poor teachers, they are redeemed by a nice personality. Appell unfortunately is neither a good teacher nor a very understanding person. His Life Skills class is utterly useless, with 99% of the time being taken up by breaks or movies. He is sexist, misogynistic and homophobic, to the point where it prevents any actually decent teachings from getting through to his students. He would not still be at Oak Park if not for the retreats, which aren't anything to brag about.

Runs the worst class on campus, "Life Skills." Teaches absolutely nothing. His class is a poor rip off of freshman health. 75% of time spent outside on "breaks" or watching movies. Mandatory senior class, but a true waste of time. Completely lacks knowledge about the things he's teaching, and often basic English. Most of the things he talks about are nicely outdated, or just plain wrong. Only reason he's still on campus is that he runs a great retreat. Nice guy, horrid teacher.

"Doc" Appell is by far one of the worst teachers at Oak Park HS. He has no boundaries, makes students both uncomfortable and his actions are often questionable and extremely inappropriate. He has no desire to help his students as he is never there during his support period, and never even tried to learn his student's names. He is often on his phone during class, giving his student 30 min breaks, and in his AP Psychology class, we watched more than six movies, none of which pertained to the class

Dr. Appell is probably one of the worst teachers I've had in high school. He never makes himself available for help or questions, even though he is technically obligated to be present for 7th period support; he sometimes will even leave class before his students do. He puts on movies almost every class and then sits in the back of class on his phone. "Breaks" can often run up to 25 minutes of a 95 minute period. If he didn't run the life skills retreats, everyone would probably hate him.
