Do not expect any significant work on essay writing; only one essay was assigned during the entire course. She can be funny, but is very strict. Any violation of test conditions has resulted, can result, and will result in a referral to your GLC (don't even ask for a pen). Expects a lot of participation in class and thorough analysis in homework. Opening grammar assignments are a quotidian torture. Overall tolerable, but if you struggle in English and want to be prepared for AP Lit, switch out.
It's only the fourth day of school and I really don't appreciate her. It is true, she doesn't teach.
for her first year teaching AP english, ms Maletz was awesome! It was an AP class, so the workload could get pretty hectic at times (hw is due once or twice a week not daily), we used the book a lot. She is funny and quirky and interesting but can be pretty sassy. all in all i feel like she prepared me for the test and i would definitely take her again
I had Maletz for English 2 Honors, and the class was really easy. She does a lot of group activities that often involve making a colorful poster. Also, video projects are worth more than essays (thank goodness because she grades essays so hard). I got an A+ first semester and like a high 96 second semester. Would recommend to help your GPA.
Avoid her class for IB English 4 if possible. Her discussions are poorly conducted and end up with everyone saying as much bs as possible to keep up with points. She's a very lazy teacher; much of the time was spent doing "group work" on our own that she doesn't even grade or evaluate. We didn't do any writing until the last two months of school, and even then she doesn't actually read or critique our work. Don't expect to gain anything from her class--complete waste of time.
She is the best teacher. Her class is easy and if you have her then you will guarantee 95% pass the class with a B. Everyone in her class especially English 2H passed the class with at least a B. A lot of student earned A's and she does a lot of group activities. I wish I had her for my whole english career at WHS. She is truly a really easy test/ essay/ homework grader.
Mrs chalew is the teacher that actually helps you all you have to do is go and ask I adore her and definitely a role model one of the only good teachers at walnut
not a good teacher. had her for eng 2 honors. very disorganized and lost one of my tests. i could've gotten an A but she's really messy. thinks she's funny but she isn't. try not to get her
She chooses favorites. Good luck if she hates you. Don't take IB English 4 because this class literally does nothing for improving your writing, reading, presenting, etc.
Ms. Chalew. My least favorite teacher of my sophomore year. She definitely has favorites. She always yelled at me even when I wasn't talking. You don't learn anything at all. The way she taught us to write essays actually messed me up a lot on the SAT essays. One time, I was at the 8th grade orientation and missed part of the class and when I came back and asked her a question about a test we were taking, she yelled at me for not being there to hear the instructions in the beginning.
I must say that she was tough on her students, but it did push me to become a better writer, in a sense. It's true that she can get a bit carried away in her jokes and sarcasm, but she does try to help you out. If you're not a good writer, then it would be wise not to take her.
Extremely unfair when weighing grades, doesnt teach. Takes everything as a joke. Makes fun of you during the class. Always has a sarcastic attitude. Some of the things that she has said to the class could cause her to be fired. On the other hand the SAT words she had us know were helpful and my writing did get better somewhat. Dont want to sound too negative but that is my honest opinion about her.
she called me a PIAT. vocab helped a lot for SAT. essay skills improved vastly with her help. unorganized a bit. eccentric
didnt like this class while i was taking in, but i notice my writing is a lot better now because of the formatting she taught us. really beneficial, but you have to work to keep up
shes realy funny, and i really like her. i think im one of her favorite students, lat roots n vocab r really POINTESS tho... i feel like i wouldnt use anything i learn in her class in real life, everything she teaches us is... not my style of learning....
She's funny but really strict. The OAs she makes us do are so pointless I don't learn anything from them. Also she makes us read so much Jewish literature that I swear she's trying to convert us.
She's really funny and smart! And she will totally prepare you for college! But she's kind of hard... not extremely though!
she is a poor organizer. I did all these assignments and she claimed I didn't. I found a couple to prove her wrong but unfortunately the rest i had thrown away in the beginning of the yr b/c i didnt need them again. She messed up my grade and honestly its not fair. She may be funny and at first i really liked her but now my GPA suffered b/c of her sloppiness.
Ms. Chalew is one of the best English teachers that I've ever had. Students tend to think that she is a scary teacher, but if you ever go in for extra help you see a competely different side of Ms. Chalew. She is one of the most genuine teachers at Walnut and truly cares about the students. Not only is she a great person but an amazing teacher that definately knows her material. She is always open to new ideas so speak up. RECOMMENDED. Always work hard and do your best because that's all she asks for.
Though her class is pretty hard, she definitely teaches you how to analyze and write good essays. It's not easy to earn an A in her class but it's definitely worth it if you're going to do IB or AP. She's one of the best teachers around. (:
Ms. Chalew is not someone who will not let you take it easy in class. That said, her sense of humor is pretty eccentric at times with nobody being exempt from her wit. She teaches you to think critically and challenges you relentlessly . I've learned a lot from her and although she's a bit scary at times, she's an excellent teacher.
go for help, don't wait til last minute, an essay can make a 10% difference!
Lets you eat in class, last 5 min you do nothing just study for vocab and shes actaully a good teacher just a bit hard but helps you with writing
a lot of independent work and tests. tests are a bit hard. nice, but is not very helpful. let's you eat and the last 5-10 are for chilling :)
well study for vocab words...yes you will see the same vocab on the sats ...do your homework and dont cheat cause she has caught many people copying each others home work..vocab is the final !!!
Hard at first, but afterwards you'll feel good that you had her. She prepares you well.
nice/funny teacher. sometimes we get a lot of hw but sometimes theres no hw in the week, but a lil more over the weekend but you can always get started in the week. so its pretty cool.
It's hard to tell what she wants, unclear with what homework is etc. watch a lot of movies in her class
She's nice, but needs to explain things in a better way.. she's not clear enough
shes a really good teacher and her class challenged me. i definitely learned a lot and had fun at the same time.
her jokes are funny so thats one of the good stuff about her classes. but her explanations on how to do things aren't very clear...kids end up asking each other and freaking out.
A great teacher, but u have to work really HARD to get a GOOD grade in the class! Explains really well...
Great at teaching. Doesn't explain clear directions so everyone ends up asking each other. good in everyway except her way of explaining directions.
funniest teacher at walnut, but doesn't give out clear enough explanations 4 hw, tests, & etc!! expectations are a little too high bcuz she thinks we're suppose to know what to do
Good teacher...she's tough on essays but it's all for a good reason. She's fair.
Her classes are funny and she tries her best to be fair. She makes you work and she makes you earn your grade... she nevers waters it down.
Ms. Chalew was very mean first semester, but then she calmed down and the rest of the year was really easy.
funny class, but really hard. and she totally plays favorites, a lot.
as long as u participate n work hard :) A is urs! n expect alot of weird languages n topics in class :) fun fun fun
To the point, Funny, Easy going as long as you dont cheat!
Teaches well, keeps the class fun, but sometimes the jokes are overboard.
basically the best english teacher i've ever had...she inspires me to go further
Straight and to the point, strict and funny at the same time, very stressfull
