I got an A without taking notes and just raising my hand all the time. Just ask good questions and figure out what he's looking for on the tests and the class is a cakewalk. Once you figure out what he wants, it's honestly a pretty interesting class. The textbook gives a new and interesting perspective on American history and you get to watch a lot of interesting documentaries on things like rock music and lsd.

John amarillas is a socialist. He has both the body type and the brain power of your average foster farms chicken. His grading is extremely biased, and he gives football players the questions on his tests. He is the worst teacher I have had and will ever have.

Had him for US History, as most people do. Hard class, you gotta figure out how he thinks, which is basically anti - America; so basically focus on all the flaws of the government in US history and you'll be pretty set. Also MAKE SURE to do a nightly review of your notes. There is a TON of info packaged in the reading and course and you should be taking two pages (one sheet) of notes at least. You have to have as much as you can memorized, but you especially need to know how to use that in test.

Best class you could take if you want to learn how to be a communist. You also learn about how Howard Zinn doesn't know anything.do not trust this guy and his chicken legs.

Take APUSH. That class will make a lot more sense. In Amo's class, you get punished for being unclear about material you weren't really taught. He knows a lot about history, and his lectures are informative, but he almost never covers or clarifies the material that you really need to know.

He's a great teacher and generally a great guy. While people might claim him to be unfair in grading, he's actually quite fair. He gives good grades to those who answer his questions, ask questions and study for his class and he gives good grades to tests to those who deserve it. Some might claim that he's bias and this is true; however, as he said, "history is a biased viewpoint." Teaching it is no different. He's very knowledgeable and does teach well. If you study, you will get a good grade.

People give him a lot of undeserved stick. He is a great teacher, and an all around good guy. Is he bias? Yes, but to the people who ask questions and do the work completely. Is he hard? Yes, the tests are hard but he tells you how to study and get at least a B "Nightly Review"

Most people don't like Amo. He comes off as abrasive, nepotistic, and biased (which he is), but he is very knowledgeable. His class does teach you to question things, be it authority, motives, etc. As long as he likes you, you'll do fine in his class

After first semester, I honestly considered transferring to APUSH (at least there I would be graded fairly)...he definitely teaches clearly and presents all the material, but no matter how well I wrote the essays on tests, the grade would always be random. The corrections on the paper are totally unreadable. To give you some perspective, I used to study like crazy and end up getting Cs and Bs...for the final I lost all my notes, didnt study one bit, BSed everything and got a 94. Makes me crazy!!

Mr. Amarillas can't grade well. He grades on a bias towards students he personally likes that are on the football team and that has nothing to do with knowledge of history or in-class skills. He needs to re evaluate his teaching strategy and be a lot more lenient...

john amarillas is the root of all evil. he's a commie and hes got tiny legs Hes ignorant, and whatever you say is only right when he says it, until then you are wrong He says demeaning things like "give up your seat at bellarmine" and says that soccer is a communist sport Many people are offended by his views In reality he is dumb as a rock and regurgitates Peoples History by Zinn and in order to get a good grade he expects you to do the same I got better grades when i slept in class than when participating

There's no reason why he should have such a bad reputation. Just regurgitate the material and participate He'll grade you on how smart he thinks you are, so if you speak up a lot, you'll be fine.
