Great teacher. Inspiring, caring, and awesome. Also very easy. You're pretty much guaranteed an A in his class, for no one in my Concert Band got a B. He points out slacking students, but always tried to make them better. I never realized how valuable he was until he told our class he's retiring. For our finals... he didn't even give us finals. He basically asked a bunch of questions and passed ou
can't believe he's retiring :[. He's the epitome of Phil Jackson. He'll give you the tools but it's up to you to figure out and step up. He teaches life not just music.
Really cool person. Though he can be scary at times, he's really helpful and caring. He makes a lot of jokes, too! He must be really good at poker, cuz I never saw a person w/ such a good poker face!
"congratulations! you've been accepted to harvard!" (inside joke)
he's retiring =[ and as a lot of people know it's the end of an era for lynbrook.
hes awesome but he expects you to handle things youreself sometimes but when he helps u...life is great :D
He's changed a lot since sophomore year. He seems a lot more relaxed and doesn't have mood swings as much. He's like a grandfather at times.
A great teacher, but he so busy, that he doesn't help the students out as much as he could.
no question, one of the very few teachers who are willing to listen and give you advice. Make sure that Doc is more than a teacher of music but a teacher of life. Not many music teachers can do both. Very hilarious when he really wants to be. His sarcasm is pretty deep too.
Doc is an ridiculously amazing teacher. Yes, he is intimidating. Yes, he does have a tantrum. But for one thing he gets on your case for the details. Things that you can apply to your life consistently. He doesn't just teach you music. He teaches you how to be a better person. Great guy. Brilliant teacher. Can't ask more from a music teacher like him, definitely going to miss him.
Doc is the awesomesauce :D he only yells when you completely fail at what you're suppose to know (seriously he doesn't yell unless you don't know the part at all, which you should) or if you're talking. he's really kool because he admires respect and dedication, and if you can get on his good side and show him you're a good student you're set for all 4 years.
Knows A LOT about music. I had doc for AP music theory, and sometimes he can be very scary when he is in a bad mood. Pay attention in class and try to get on his good sides. Tests do not really need studying as in memorizing, but more as in practicing a lot. Projects are fun as he gives a lot of class time to complete them. He tries to grade easy, but the tests are hard anyways.
He's a nice guy, but he can be very strict. Sometimes I just can't play well because I'm scared he'll yell at me. he's better now tho cause he knows me =D
honestly, he knows just enough about music to impress those without private music coaching. his temper makes it very difficult to work with him, especially his mood swing - which is an absolute "no" for a teacher.
doc is great. he knows what hes taking about; he wont stand for interruptions in class so keep your mouth shut. other than that hes a great guy and is really nice when you talk to him one on one.
Had him in different classes during a time when the orchestra was doing well years back, before his heart problems, and participated in three tours. If you want a teacher who has a Steve Jobs temper tantrum when it comes to perfection, the buck stops here. You will learn discipline and the values of being competitive, and take it with you later in life. Only a hollywood orchestra director comes close in terms of wild antics. He's a teacher you won't like at first, but you will appreciate when looking back.
he's a pretty strange guy, i mean, he kicked me outa class cuz i laughed too much, but strangely he wuz nicer to me after that... haha he's cool. i learn a lot from him!
I have Doc for AP theory, and he is a very good teacher. He knows what he's talking about, and in my opinion he's good at explaining it. (don't take my word for it though because I've had a lot of previous theory experience and happen to be vaguely good at it) But Doc can be scary, and it's very important to be on his good side. don't talk in class. i learned this the hard way. Also, once he does or doesn't like someone, he can be a little biased... still, great teacher, and very interesting person.
well, at least he teaches instead of talking, and he's very nice if you try to talk to him. he's not a monster, but you do have to pay attention, which a lot of people don't...
i had dr. felder for orchestra yrs ago (it was when he first came to lynbrook). before him, orchestra was the forgotten child. he rocks, little scary, but i call it passion!
an unusual teacher, to be sure formidable figure because of his undeniable acumen and big mouth but overall, you end up with more with this guy
he is freakishly intimidating and freakishly scary when he's angry, but otherwise, he's pretty cool. its cool becuase he doesn't favor band or orchestra.
Knows what he's doing, but FREAKIN YELLS TOO MUCH! I don't see how his yelling would help a musician play better, it's such a distraction.
its kind of hard when he asks us to play random notes of a scale like 1,1,2,3,5,7,1,2,2,3,5,7,1 band ppl know wat i mean right... he sshould be quiter bands supposed to be an elective ppl enjoy going to not something ur scared to death of- hearings scary
g4 clarinet pride- doc youre awesome at teaching- youre scary though
band is an easy A, and doc is clear and helpful, he yells to keep order cause he teaches 70 kids at once, try being a section leader and you'll know
Felder is a great teacher. he gets mad sometimes, but its not scary at all. he just does it to push you and really likes to get to know his students.
Very scary at times- can be nice if you're loved; extremely competent. Has an interesting sense of humor ^^;
doc is very cool...a little scary sometimes but still cool
Musical preferences are iffy, but, generally, an excellent teacher. If you think he demands too much, then you're probably just not too good a musician.
I used to be one of his favorites but then I just quit it...then he started being all critical.
pretty scary sometimes, but i mean every1's human...cant expect him to be happy 24/7...usually fun and nice...
only teacher that ever yelled at me...very scary, but very helpful. be sure to pay attention in class, cuz he tests u on a lotta stuff.
he's a genius on music...but alot pressure and very scary sometimes....high expectations...but really nice and funny most of times...very cool band conductor
REALLY nice outside of class, not scary at all. in fact, he teases me all the time. in class, though, he has high expectations, typical for a good musician...
he may not like me, he may not trust me, but still, he's a good music teacher, and he loves music, what more can you ask from a music teacher?
doc was the thorn in my side. he's a great teacher, and really pushes us, but i definately don't miss him. i miss band, not him.
gotta love this guy. i mean he knows what he's teaching better than anyone i know and he does it so you enjoy. beware - he CAN be scary:-) but always loving
Real tough guy, but he's a softie inside.. had some great years ='). he is a GENIUS at music.
Yelled at me like I have never been yelled at but is very sweet usually
high expectations but really fun guy (better be here next year!!)
only cool and best to those who's never seen other band directors/conductors..
Great music teacher. Really knows how to get the students to appreciate music.
can get very uptight about trivial things..and becomes mad easily, but overall:]
Scary but still very cool, and dont dis mandac... hes fun to mess with
his conducting is very clear, though he can have a rage explosion sometimes
can be very scary at times, but its all for the best
i've got a lot of respect for him but he's not easy.
you learn soo much from him..more than you expect to learn in a band class...:)
Though I like him, he can scare me with his attitude at times.
doc: cool & smart, but scary and demanding, but that's what makes him great.
man..gotta love doc...brilliant director...just brilliant
very cool...the coolest band teacher ever...very worthy of a lot of respect
