Mr. Hayward is one of the few teachers I had who's lessons, both in and out of the classroom, I still remember today. As a steward of the IDS program, he nurtured acceptance and understanding through the compassion he showed to his students. He was a true mentor who stepped up when it mattered (even in the face of administrative criticism). If there was ever a teacher who motivated me to 'pay it forward', it was him.
John Hayward was an exceptional teacher and human being. His devotion to teaching was clear, and his lessons are still with me 26 years after graduation.
Mr. Hayward was a great person and a great teacher. He made U.S. history come alive, and he struck a good balance of nurturing struggling students and challenging talented students. His role in making IDS a safe place in an otherwise not always supportive school environment will be his legacy.
Mr. Hayward was a remarkable teacher. He taught me how to write, and now I make a living writing. His challenging class, which made us explore the material and explore themes, prepared me well for a competitive college experience. Mr. Hayward was also incredibly kind and funny, and he treated us like adults. He also created the IDS club so that unconventional kids could have a haven, and I will be forever grateful for that home-away-from-home right in the middle of high school.
Mr. Hayward was an outstanding teacher. He tied together themes throughout history in a way that's stuck with me long after taking his class. He really pushed his students. Having to write an essay every week really made me think about the material, made me a much better writer, and prepared me for college. I liked that he (and the book he chose) discussed both the positive and negative aspects of US History. He was also very entertaining and funny!
Even though people think that his class is boring, but i learned a lot about US history from him. If you pay attention, you'd learn a lot too. Besides, he can be funny too!
