He literally doesn't teach... he just sits behind his desk and makes us watch videos, take notes and quizzes all on our own without teaching us ANYTHING. His exams are literally impossible because we do bookwork, don't go over it, take a test, and then here him moan about why we all failed. I came to Benet to LEARN and be prepared for what the future holds for me... after taking geography w/ him I can truly say that I haven't learned a single thing in his class.
Worst teacher I ever had... Oh wait, he's not a teacher, he doesn't teach. Every student in all 4 of his classes will verify that he has never taught a lesson in his life. Instead, he just makes us watch videos and verbally abuses students daily. Oh yeah, and then there are the maps that "hardly anyone gets a 100 on" according to him. I got a point off for putting check marks in the direction box. He also makes up vocab for tests (one time all of the words were Arabic).TRANSFER OUT NOW
Worst teacher at Benet. "Teacher" is used loosely, considering Leffler has never given a lecture in our class and we have around 20 days left of school. All we do is watch videos and take notes on the textbook at home, and then take extremely hard tests based on material we 100 % teach ourselves. No exaggeration. Only thing the guy's got going for him is the zotts he gives out, which only half make up for his awful personality and 0 knowledge. Do not sign up for any class in which he "teaches".
Mr. Leffler is the worst teacher I've had at Benet. He gets mad at the smallest things, he's rude, he assigns too much busy work, the tests are hard because they're dumb, and he doesn't teach. What is he doing at Benet.
Also, his weird little bow ties freak me out, especially the fur one. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS.
If you're going to take geography, you have to be able to do work outside of class. It's not hard stuff to understand, but you have to read the textbook yourself because you literally don't talk about the content in class. You watch videos. I really do like his class. Plus he curves and will throw in random points into your grade. He's a great guy, just a little weird. he has more of like a college professor type of teaching.
And you kinda want him for AP Euro more than corrigan.
Leffler's class is quite a load of work. Unless you want to be a cartographer or something then just stay away from H Geography. Recently Benet bumped Geography up to an Honor's class, and although those extra three points may convince you to take what originally seems like an Honor's Coloring class, you'll find that the amount of time you will spend completing maps and trying to figure out what the heck to study from his "lovely-jubbly" college textbook just isn't worth your time or energy.
His class is more challenging than my other classes, but still not that hard. He gives quite a lot of homework; it is indeed overwhelming at times. However, the worst thing is that he rarely teaches. Almost all days of the year, we have either been watching videos or working on assignments during class. He has only actually presented information to us on a handful of days.
Mr. Leffler is a nice guy but I don't think he should be a teacher. He assigns too much busy work to his students and he doesn't really teach. We watch cool videos in class but my class has not gotten a proper lecture from him since the beginning of school. Mr. Leffler has an assignment called maps that you do for every chapter. They take about a total of five hours to do and they are just busy work. You color them and fill in useless cities. I would prefer to have my old history teacher.
Boring, I can handle. Hard tests, I can deal with. Busy work, I can accept. Study hall to focus on all these things in place of the AP class I signed up for? That's pretty much where the line is drawn.
Mr. Leffler goes down in my academic history as the worst teacher I had ever had. He takes out personal frustrations on his students....while never really teaching anything. I'm VERY surprised that such an exceptional school would retain this man for 25 years. He's extremely lazy and often inappropriate in how he addresses students. I would avoid Benet altogether if I knew my child would have to be taught by this man.
I don't know why everyone complains about him. His class is very bizarre and his methods are a little obscure, but he teaches you what you need to know, regardless of the class. I think people just think he's weird and he does things a little differently than other teachers, so they immediately label him as "bad"...He does tend to hold grudges, so just be nice. Respect him, he'll respect you, easy A
i cannot believ hes still around. this class was a waste of my time and i didnt learn anything. grades are completly random and it kinda seems like hes out to get you
Don't expect lectures in class, because all of the learning will have to be done on your own, basically. Do your work and try to participate a little bit, but in the end his grades are erroneous. Don't be afraid of him, although he tries to be intimidating. He can be very nice. He just expects efficiency and work out of his students.
Do the work, and stay on his good side, or youre screwed. He doesn't teach, so just be nice to him because he grades people on how you act.
He has a unique teaching style where basically he doesn't teach and everything is independent work. But his grading system is very fair and usually he changes your grade to your advantage! One of my favorite teachers albeit a bit odd.
hahah lef isnt really a good teacher...he doesnt teach much at all but as long as your on his good side youll get a good grade. he atleast makes school fun and you need some of those teachers.
Had him as a teacher 20 years ago. His first or second year teaching. He was abitter man back then. Leffler may have personal demons. I hope he eventually decides to seek counseling.
He was ok. I learned how to color. There was a lot of random stuff we did in class that had nothing whatsoever to do with geography. He also wasn't very nice.
Mr. Leffler has an "abrasive" personality. His bitterness is understandable if you listen to the rumors... He tends to be grumpy but his sarcastic humor is hysterical. I'm pretty sure I would laugh at anything he says. He knows what he's talking about and if he is in a good mood he can be really nice. Both in theatre as a director and in history as a teacher he has high expectations, and if you meet the expectations you'll do fine and you'll be better off for it.
Very challenging class, but not a day goes by when something funny goes on in his Mod World class. I have him for the second year right now.
Mr. Leffler is probably one of the only reasons why I stayed sane in Modern World. He is a funny teacher and if you pay attention in class and take good notes you will do fine and become one of his favorite students!
laziest, grumpiest person i have ever met. i hated every second of ap euro.
Gave me my first B since fourth grade. He had an uncanny ability to choose the most annoying powerpoint colors.
hahaha funny probably the laziest teacher ive seen, assigns lots of homework, tests on details and sits on a couch in the class room making fun of people
A really funny guy but dont get him angry because he doesn't fell bad when he hands out detetions. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE NOTES AND DO ALL YOUR HOMEWORK.
You learn but are not taught. If you want all the benefits of the class, just go buy a college text book and read it, because thats about all there is to this course, plus busy work. He is a lazy, burnt out history "teacher"
he doesn't exactly teach, but he's nice if you get past the yelling and generally poor disposition
Best history class I ever had. He didn't teach per se, but I definitely learned more than I ever have before. And, he turned me on to Blackadder. He deserves a Golden Apple.
He gives the impression that he's not helping at all, what with never grading any homework. Apparently he knows what he's doing. We shall see.
He is possibly the laziest man alive! He doesn't teach AT ALL! He assigns lots of work and he hasn't read a single homework assignment all year
An oft-maligned man who deserves more recognition. Hard AP class but very informative. Really nice and honest teacher. Model UN rocks!
Doesn't teach much, but definitly 45 minutes of fun every day
no one has experienced the true lef unless they go on model un...
Sure, he couldve used teaching time more effectively at times, but I enjoyed the class and got a 5 on the ap, which is the end goal of all.
