Had him for governomics. If you want to learn the material (to take the AP), use the book; do one good outline a week (on your own), check out Khan Academy, and make responsibility for learning your own. If you want to do well, make sure the outline is filled out (point loss comes from not having things completed, rather than doing a poor job), cram for the tests, and try to find something useful to do during class. Sharkey works really hard for his students. Doesn't mean he teaches well.
Leave him alone. He's had a rough couple of years with his health and he still comes to work and teaches bratty Nisky kids.
Sharkey's a cool guy, but not a great teacher. I reccomend learning the material from the book, not in class.
Sharkey is great as a person, but I found economics to be boring and nearly impossible to understand with him teaching.
I have the feeling that 10-20 years ago he was a very accomplished and intelligent man but is slowly degenerating into senility. He went to BC law school, was director of the Schenectady Museum and has interesting anecdotes. Unfortunately, he now has the tendency to repeat stories and is sometimes unclear when teaching.
John "Have you heard the one about the difference between a recession and a depression?" Sharkey is a great guy, but needs to stop going on tangents and hijacking Salvin's lessons.
Sharky might not be the greatest teacher in my perspective but he is one of the greatest running coaches that someone could ask for.
Cool guy, although outside of class, he pretended he didn't know me. He was not the best teacher, nor was he the smartest guy. But I still placed out of macro.
Great Guy....cares alot about his students and cares alot about the teams he coachs. One of my favorite teachers
mixed feelings. very nice, but not cool as in u might hang out with him. not too bright either, sometimes mixes himself and the class up
God almighty, do I hate economice... but Sharkey and Super Allen Greenspan saved me from failing AP macro entirely. Yay!
Mr. Sharkey is a cool dude. Cool as a teacher, cool as a ski team coach. And might I add, Pele is king of the soccer field, as well as the public affairs class
He's a pretty good teacher, nothing spectacular though.
