Mr. Nigro is the best teacher I've ever had. I came into his 10H class hating English and I went out of it absolutely loving it. He is the reason that I think I'll succeed this year in 11AP. I'm hoping I get him for 12AP too because I just loved his class so much. Mr. Nigro is very sarcastic but that is what makes him so funny and his class so enjoyable. If you participate in the discussions and try hard, he will love you. He improved my writing SO MUCH. So grateful.
Had him for 10H and my favorite English teacher so far. He not only knew how the content extremely well, but he also made the class in general enjoyable to everyone including those of us that don't have much interest in English. He might seem intimidating to some at first, but he's actually a real softie. Study a lot for the vocab tests (no word bank) and make sure you can write a solid thesis. His jokes at first may seem really bland, but just go with it and you will enjoy the class more. :)
Nigro is an interesting guy. He can be a bit intimidating and kind of a jerk sometimes but overall, he's a good teacher that knows what he's talking about. The trick is to not be afraid of him and then he'll lighten up a bit. His class isn't easy but it's not unreasonable and you'll do alright as long as you work hard in his class. Beware of the essays though, they make or break your grade. He'll prepare you well for 11AP.
THIS MAN IS ICONIC. He is the only person keeping me in school. CHANGED MY LIFE FOREVER.
He's a funny and sarcastic teacher but his Vocab quizzes are pretty tricky so study a lot for them. Also, don't take the essays lightly because they are worth 50% of your overall grade. A challenging class but definitely prepares you for 11 AP English
I'm in Nigro's Acadeca. It's one of my favorite classes and he really cares about his kids.
Best English teacher and teacher overall, unlike many other teachers he actually taught how to write well mechanically and broke it down even for students who don't usually love English, but being someone who loves the subject I thought the class was super enjoyable and love his sarcastic remarks and dry humour (I felt Brittish again)
I had him for 10H (hoping for 12AP too) he's a really great teacher but he's also very emo and sarcastic so be prepared!! If you sit down, shut up, and do the work he won't bother you. His quizzes also are tricky if you don't study but if you do the reading and study vocab you'll do fine. (Tips : -he always picks the number 13 when he also asks for a number between 1 and whatever no matter the interval
-his tattoo is an octopus if you couldn't figure it out) please be kind he is very soft
Mr. Nigro is great! He's so funny in the most sarcastic way possible and his class is just fun in general. Also...has anyone else noticed that he always has his unoccupied hand clenched in a fist or is it just me? XD
Best AcaDeca coach EVER and an all around great guy. Very funny (and punny), totally willing to help if you're struggling with anything and always made stuff fun and interesting. Stay awesome "Mr. Nirgo" ;)
I love you Mr. Nigro. I'll remember that hug you gave me for 12 years, 7 months, 9 days.
Mr. Nigro's class is so fun and you learn so much. He keeps you intrigued with his witty commentary and really connects with the students. He is really funny and knowledge able about everything. Mr. Nigro is one of my favorite teachers of all time and I have become a much better student who loves English even more because of him.
BEST TEACHER ON THE PLANET. I love you "Mr. Nigel" ;)
Mr. Nigro... what a character. Extremely knowledgeable, not only just about his subject. His tests are pretty difficult, but what makes his class really tough is the fact that essays are weighted to be worth 50% of your grade. Do all the hw, study for all the vocab quizes, and an A should be manageable in his class. I genuinely enjoyed the feedback he gave me on essays, and I think Mr. Nigro has taught/forced me to become not only a better writer but also a better student.
The best! If you can overlook his angsty personality and sarcastic comments (or just enjoy them) then his teaching is superior. He has taught me more about writing in one year then my whole life. So thankful that I had the oppurtonity to learn from such a knowledgable teacher.
DO NOT come to this class expecting an A. You will disappoint yourself if you do not work the hardest you can on every single quiz test assessment (work on essay writing as much as possible). If you come into this class expecting a guy with good sarcasm (the best kind I assure you), good literary analysis, and a colloquial approach to students, you will love his class. Last year's classes were pissed because they did not get A's, but this year's classes didn't mind at all.
Nigro is actually one of the best teachers I have ever experienced. He is extremely sarcastic and it is very difficult to get him to like you, but if you manage to get an A in his class, you will emerge a far superior writer and overall English student.
His class isn't that difficult if you overlook his grading on writing. It's weighted 50% of your grade, so you need to focus mainly on that. Otherwise, his class is pretty simple, and he is a decently good teacher. Not very approachable or interesting though.
He can come off as really harsh, and sometimes his sarcasm can push the limit to downright meanness. But whenever he makes a serious screw-up in terms of losing his temper, he usually apologizes the next day. Pretty funny guy and knows his stuff.
People don't seem to like Mr. Nigro very much, but I think he's a good teacher who knows his stuff. He scores students' essays very low at first, but if you take the time to seek help from, it's not hard to drastically improve your scores. His class isn't easy, but I enjoyed it. He has a dry sense of humor, and even though he's weird, he's a fun guy.
I was not overly impressed with him. I figure, if you want to engage the kids you need to be fun and engaging!! His personality seemed very awkward, depressed, and angry. He just looked like he hated his job. I have never understood teachers that yelled at their students and made tests that were near impossible to get A's on either. I thought the whole point of teaching was to reach your kids, to teach them skills, and to inspire them. IMO he fell short. What a disappointment.
From the parent perspective, the expectations are clear and well organized both online and laying out expectations at open house My son didn't comprehend some of the literature, but not sure if that is a result of my son being distracted or the quality of lectures. Either way, my son knew what he had to do to be successful and chose to be just above average. Not a lot of writing instruction or feedback which is a disappointment.
Not exactly a sunny day in this classroom. Watch out for Jane Eyre and enjoy this whopper of a class!
Not a very respectful man... very hard class as well... picks many favorites and thinks he's better than everyone else on the planet.
Funny guy and easy to get along wit. You definately want to be in his class once through your highschool years. His class can seem difficult at times since its highschool but its not difficult at all.
Love this guy. Reminds me of Mr. Rochester.
Seems very depressed, He is very helpful though. One of the harder English classes i've taken.
Mr. Nigro is the best teacher I've ever had. He only makes fun of the students that aren't listening, or at least deserve it. Even though he IS a bit sarcastic, its funny and he genuinly cares about his students.
Not the easiest english class, but he really helps make enlgish less of a bore, he ties in interesting stories and jokes, and helped me a lot with essay writing
Had Nigro last year - a cool teacher, and really tries to make the class interesting (Jane Eyre can only go so far), but a very, very harsh grader and critic of people. Didn't think he was fair at all, but he can teach - and well.
