This was probably one of the funnest math courses I've ever taken. Mr. Shea has a great sense of humor and he's willing to joke you, but it probably also depends on whether the class appreciates his humor or not.
I find algebra really easy, so this class really wasn't very hard for me. I feel like he could have gone faster in the notes, but other people think he goes too fast. He doesn't assign very much homework either, so overall, I feel like alg2/trig is a pretty easy class. Flag Rating
Jan 15, 2015 Best math teacher I've had in my life. I have never truly understood math until I had Mr. Shea. His organized, friendly class is a perfect environment for learning and asking questions. He is the friendliest and most open-to-questions teacher that I have ever had. Many people give him bad reviews due to the fast pace and difficulty of the course, however that problem is unrelated to Mr. Shea's teaching; it is a problem regarding the complex course material Flag Rating
Dec 12, 2014 I hated this class and actually started crying tears of joy after I walked out of the classroom after finishing the final. Very demeaning and unsupportive of students. He wears this godawful fish tie first and last day of class. He is in my top 3 of my most hated people list. CCA needs to get rid of him Flag Rating
Nov 19, 2014 Overall terrible teacher. CCA deserves better teachers than him. Flag Rating
Nov 06, 2014 This class is actually hard. The 4 by 4 schedule just makes it harder. Mr. Shea is really nice and funny, but he goes really fast on notes and makes it really confusing. If you ask him answers during lunch or before school he clears it up for you and makes an effort to make sure you understand it. The tests vary, but they are usually a simple and decent test. It is not easy to have an A in the class especially with a test almost each week. Flag Rating
Nov 02, 2014 I have had Mr. Shea and have overall found him to be a pretty decent teacher. He moves a little fast on the notes and makes some mistakes but overall does a decent job explaining the lesson. He doesn't give too much homework but it is neccecasary to study a little for his tests. He gives a limited time on his tests so you have to be sure to pace yourself. He makes class pretty enjoyable (for math class) and is a super cool and funny guy! Would reccomend his class. Flag Rating
Oct 09, 2014 YOU GUYS ARE IDIOTS SHEA IS THE BEST TEACHER IN THE WORLD AAAAAH!!! Flag Rating

Best. Teacher. Ever.
Seriously, this guy has humor, knowledge, good tests, kindness, what more could you want? Yeah, he isn't very clear with some of his explanations, but he is pretty hilarious.
Student: "What's the name of this unit?"
Shea: "Confusing Stuff."
If you plan to do Alg2/Trig, definitely get on this guy's good side. It's a sheame he gets such a low rating (Yes, that was intentional) Flag Rating
Mar 27, 2014 Shea all the way. First day: Welcome to Algebra 2 Trig where good grades come to die. He makes it seem like you'll get a B, but if you study its fine. Ask questions and he answers it very clearly, way better than notes. Ask questions you'll be golden Flag Rating
Feb 04, 2014 He was my favorite math teacher at CCA. He is a really nice guy. He is not a perfect teacher, but he is pretty reasonable. As long as you pay attention in his class and do the homework, you will be fine. Flag Rating
Dec 04, 2013 Mr. Shea is a cool person, but he's just not a very good math teacher. He doesn't explain things clearly and doesn't seem to know very much about the subjects he teaches outside of the core. Also he needs to clean up the notes and homework answers instead of always saying that he will change it later because it was another teacher's stuff. Sorry, Mr. Shea! Flag Rating
Sep 06, 2013 Mr. Shea is a very nice person, however, he does not teach well. Mr. Shea thinks that all he has to do is copy notes from previous teachers at CCA, give them to us, and barely explain the concept for us to learn it. Mr. Shea: please improve your teaching methods in both your Geometry and Honors Algebra 2 Trig class. Although it is an honors class, and it is supposed to be difficult, you need to explain the concepts deeply. Please do not ask "Does anybody not understand?" That will not work. Flag Rating
Aug 26, 2013 I think Mr. Shea is a really cool person. He's an absentminded professor. But his teaching just doesn't cover what you need to know--the tests are often a shot in the dark, and being surrounded by freshman prodigies doesn't help with your self-esteem as you get C after C after D and they're disappointed with their 92%. SO BE SUPER CAREFUL. Don't get cocky. Study way more than you think you need to if you want to succeed. Flag Rating
Jun 14, 2013 Mr. Shea is a nice person (although he obviously has self-esteem issues) his teaching skills however suck. This whole semester was a struggle to teach myself concepts that were not clearly explained in class. If you don't work twice as hard as you normally would, you're not going to do well in the class. He is not a good teacher at all, and says this quite often. He also takes forever to grade and gives stupid excuses like "well i went to disneyland" Flag Rating
Jun 12, 2013 I had him for Algebra 2/Trig, which was definitely a hard class. There wasn't a lot of homework, but the concepts were fairly hard and he wasn't always good at explaining them. The tests are really hard, but he grades them as easily as he can and he really goes through your work to be able to give you as many points as he can. He's a really nice guy though, and very funny with the little jokes he mutters under his breath at times :) Flag Rating
May 09, 2013 Mr.Shea is a nice guy, but his teaching methods, well they're not teaching. He has notes from previous years, which he just copies onto the new documents. Mr.Shea assumes that you will just click with the material, and even when asked questions can not clarify the material. He also repeatedly makes mistakes and jokes about them. I understand that he is trying to be funny Flag Rating
Dec 13, 2012 I don't have anything against Mr.Shea as a person. He's a nice enough guy but he doesn't know how to teach. In class we just take notes everyday and he doesn't explain them very well. You will have to study the notes at home or read the text book in order to understand anything. Flag Rating
May 15, 2012 Class itself is just any other math class. Just taking notes all day. Unfortunately, Mr. Shea doesn't go over the notes, and instead just gives you answers to the notes with almost no explanation, and expects you to take one test a week while "going through" over twenty pages of notes. Nov 07, 2011 BEST TEACHER EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love Mr. Shae. He may seem mean at first but he becomes a lot cooler after awhile. Flag Rating

Apr 22, 2010 I don't see why everyone hates him. I'm doing fine in his class, and his sense of humor is pretty great. Flag Rating
