Best. Teacher. Ever.
Seriously, this guy has humor, knowledge, good tests, kindness, what more could you want? Yeah, he isn't very clear with some of his explanations, but he is pretty hilarious.
Student: "What's the name of this unit?"
Shea: "Confusing Stuff."
If you plan to do Alg2/Trig, definitely get on this guy's good side. It's a sheame he gets such a low rating (Yes, that was intentional) Show More Show Less
04/08/14 - Sorry you got stuck with him!! Suggestions: if possible, take a class on trig/alg 2 the summer before; consult Khan Academy during the year; buy trig/alg 2 guides..Mr. Shea is a terrible teacher. Being a likable guy unfortunately won't help you.. Show More Show Less
03/27/14 - Shea all the way. First day: Welcome to Algebra 2 Trig where good grades come to die. He makes it seem like you'll get a B, but if you study its fine. Ask questions and he answers it very clearly, way better than notes. Ask questions you'll be golden Show More Show Less
02/04/14 - He was my favorite math teacher at CCA. He is a really nice guy. He is not a perfect teacher, but he is pretty reasonable. As long as you pay attention in his class and do the homework, you will be fine. Show More Show Less
12/04/13 - Mr. Shea is a cool person, but he's just not a very good math teacher. He doesn't explain things clearly and doesn't seem to know very much about the subjects he teaches outside of the core. Also he needs to clean up the notes and homework answers instead of always saying that he will change it later because it was another teacher's stuff. Sorry, Mr. Shea! Show More Show Less
09/06/13 - Mr. Shea is a very nice person, however, he does not teach well. Mr. Shea thinks that all he has to do is copy notes from previous teachers at CCA, give them to us, and barely explain the concept for us to learn it. Mr. Shea: please improve your teaching methods in both your Geometry and Honors Algebra 2 Trig class. Although it is an honors class, and it is supposed to be difficult, you need to explain the concepts deeply. Please do not ask "Does anybody not understand?" That will not work. Show More Show Less
08/26/13 - I think Mr. Shea is a really cool person. He's an absentminded professor. But his teaching just doesn't cover what you need to know--the tests are often a shot in the dark, and being surrounded by freshman prodigies doesn't help with your self-esteem as you get C after C after D and they're disappointed with their 92%. SO BE SUPER CAREFUL. Don't get cocky. Study way more than you think you need to if you want to succeed. Show More Show Less
06/14/13 - Mr. Shea is a nice person (although he obviously has self-esteem issues) his teaching skills however suck. This whole semester was a struggle to teach myself concepts that were not clearly explained in class. If you don't work twice as hard as you normally would, you're not going to do well in the class. He is not a good teacher at all, and says this quite often. He also takes forever to grade and gives stupid excuses like "well i went to disneyland" Show More Show Less
06/12/13 - I had him for Algebra 2/Trig, which was definitely a hard class. There wasn't a lot of homework, but the concepts were fairly hard and he wasn't always good at explaining them. The tests are really hard, but he grades them as easily as he can and he really goes through your work to be able to give you as many points as he can. He's a really nice guy though, and very funny with the little jokes he mutters under his breath at times :) Show More Show Less
