She's a nice teacher, but she's gotten old so she's more confusing then before she gets side tracked easily. But it's a fun class just don't get on her bad side. You basically talk about different topics and write about them. I personally enjoy her class
Mrs. Bott is the best teacher I have ever had. Although she is quite difficult at times and has her crazy methods and opinions, eventually you get used to it after you get to know her and you can really succeed. I have never learned so much in a class before and she really has ignited a desire in me to become fluent in spanish. If you are just taking her class for the credits and not to actually learn the language, GET OUT. Overall, she's insane but you gotta love her. 10/10 would recommend.
I don't think there are any students who actually like her, but when it comes down to it I've learned more Spanish from her strange methods than I have from any other Spanish teacher. She plays favorites and loves to pick on slackers, so be engaged and try to at least pretend to be interested in what she's saying- you're grade will be heavily affected by her impression of your Spanish knowledge. Not a particularly nice person, but its an interesting class to say the least.
I went to Mclean 20 years ago. I decided to google Señora Bott because someone recently commented that the problem with education is that we are not taught HOW to think but WHAT to think. I thought of Señora Bott bc she did teach us HOW to think. She also made me pretty fluent in Spanish before I even left high school. She was tough on me, even kicked me out of her class more than once. But I consider her one of the best teachers I ever had.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. Her grading is arbitrary. She can humiliate you for asking a grammatical question. I learned nothing new about Spanish in her class. She just has us write about her rants that she gives in broken English and Spanish (half the sentence will be in English and the other half in Spanish). One grammatical mistake in a page and a half of writing could mean a 70 on that assignment. I loved Spanish before I took her class, now I've dropped it because of her.
She's like a litmus test for people who only care about themselves vs. people who think a teacher at a public high school ought to try to help students succeed and learn a language. She favors some students, who act like they are the chosen ones who've cracked the Bott Code. On the other hand, she humiliates others in front of classmates, uses no textbook, and offers no help at all out of class. If FCPS ever seriously decides to look at student depression, they can start with Judy Bott.
As a McLean alum (and now a Spanish major at a top-tier university), Bott is the way prepare yourself for the rigors of language learning. Everyone can agree that sometimes she is eccentric and confusing... and yes, sometimes she can be very, very harsh. I almost switched during the first week because she picked on me. HOWEVER, once you show her that you're engaged and willing to work hard, she will reward you with helpful individual attention and much better grades. Just PUSH, you'll be fine.
not a great teacher but you'll learn by being forced to listen and write alot. If you get on her good side, there wont be much of a problem. Sit near the front and try to be involved. She's completely oblivious to most of the stuff going on, but she thinks she has everything figured out about the personalities of her students, assuming most people to be lazy and destined to fail. You'll at least have fun laughing at all the weird stuff she does. class isn't easy but people can manage it
She was nice to me, but I can easily tell that half of the class was dying from being bored, not understanding her, ect. All you do is listen, write and speak, most of which doesn't get better by the end of the year (ppl who say that you'll become fluent are wrong - you are just repeating what you've learned from Spanish 3 so many times that it becomes memorization.) You learn nothing new -- it's like a year-long PALS. Grades are unpredictable. A third of my class dropped by 1st semester.
She is emotionally abusive to students (humiliating, threatening), which is grounds for termination. In addition, she is a poor teacher. It is unforgivable that the school administration keeps her on despite all the serious accusations. If you are your child get this teacher, demand another one.
She honestly has no clue what she is doing. In both ability to teach and comprehension of the language. Furthermore, she is unable to communicate any knowledge whatsoever. She often is erratic and undecipherable in the classroom and frankly should not be working
Yeah, she's provocative, but that doesn't mean she's not one of the best spanish teachers you'll ever have. most people don't realize it while they're in the class, but after her 4/AP class, she basically makes you fluent. Debates interesting issues and always keeps the class engaged and fun. Sure, her opinions can be a little out there but if you look past that she'll teach you SO MUCH. Plus, the one time i messed up an assignment she let me rewrite it for full credit. a must have at mclean.
Should be fired. She's lazy and ill-tempered, she won't help kids who can't follow her methods (doesn't use a textbook and won't make any supplemental materials available), she ignores parents, and she humiliates kids in class in front of others.
She is a hard grader and yes, she does walk into class 10 min late. But she is an interesting person. We have a lot of intellectual discussions in class which are really fun because she loves to debate and argue her side.
Switch out ASAP. That is if you can.. it can be very hard to switch out do to the high volume of students trying to. She is worse than the terrible rumors you have heard.
Completely unhelpful, passive-aggressive and spoiled. The administration at McLean admits that she's a problem, but is just waiting for her to retire. My advice is that, if you or your child is unable to learn in her class, get him or her out ASAP. She is not interested in kids, for the most part (except for a few primarily female students) and will ruin your child's high school experience.
She can't teach for anything she somtimes just says im done teaching 5 min into class and thats the class she thinks some kids are retarted when they have A's in all their other classes and complains
Awfull, went from "A" in Spanish one to "C" in her class, then once I left got "A" in spanish 3
I find her teaching style very confusing but she thinks that she is doing fine. I don't understand any of her lectures, and even when I try really hard I don't understand. She likes to insult people w
Bott has made Spanish my most hated class! She never explains anything and talks down certain people in my class. She acts like she has found the perfect learning style or something, but it never work
Pretty annoying when she tells us about how hard it is to get into college but yet here she is teaching us nothing.
Truthfully: you have to get Ms. Bott in a good mood to have a good grade in her class. Her grading sucks, and if she doesn't like you, you don't do that well. I went from an A in Spanish one to a C i
she is a good teacher... Senora Bott es muy especial, algunas veces es muy rara pero es muy divertida. Su clase es un poco aburrida pero tenen sentido pueto que aprendes acerca de espanol y lo que est
she was just so weird. but sort of in a good way. her class was hard, she was super rude, and had the weirdest teaching style any of us in the class had ever seen and by the end of the first day of cl
I personally love Ms. Bott. She is a great teacher if he show her respect and try hard.
she is the worst teacher she picks favorites and always makes people feel bad about themselves drop out her class
Aww man, Mrs Bott, "Take out a singular sheet of paper." You hear those words and you knwo either you're gonna get an A or a F...
Her class is definitely hard and she can be mean but her class is definitely entertaining. I actually learned more from her than any other spanish teacher but you have to work your butt off!
lets see ms bott was really boring at times but you can learn a learn a little she alwayys showed up late for my classif you do your work she will like you but if you dont she will call you out and m
her grading system is is HORRIBLE. but o well. it favored me :D
You better fully understand what she says the first time around, because if you ask her to repeat herself she will not AND she'll make fun of you in front of the class.
She's hard. BUT if you're a hard worker/you WANT to learn (look like youre concentrating), she'll like you. If she likes you she'll grade easier and be nicer. And to admit it, she IS a a good teacher.
Shes soo mean! her teaching style doesn't work for most students. she thinks she's a great teacher but she not really as good as she thinks she is. she should listen to the students ides some.
I filed a formal complaint against this woman. She was abusive to my son, and I think she should retire. After 30 years, she has been placed on the observation/evaluation track again. Retire already
her class is really challenging but it will help us speak better spanish in the future! shes funny and will love you if you give your honest opinion and speak up in class.
I can't believe how low Ms. Bott's rating is right now! She's not only an amazing spanish teacher, but she also encourages you to debate political and social issues and speak up.
i LOVE her. she's the funniest and yet the most challenging teacher i've had. gotta be in her class before you leave McLean.
I still remember this woman. You either love her or you hate her; no real in between. She was strict but fair. I think the only sutdents who didn;t like her were ones who did not work.
Ms. Bott may be mean, but she honestly makes your learn the language. I'm in Spanish 3 now, and I'm doing so much better than all the other kids because I know so much more than them. It's awesome!
you guys are ignorant, shes a genious when it comes to teaching you how to speak spanish.
I think she's a very good teacher and am glad to see that she is in our school system.
She's my tutor and omg she's like sooooo cool!!!! She's really helping me alot!! She's also really amusing and makes me think, which I know highschoolers don't like to do, but I mean come on we gotta.
funniest teacher ever.beleive it or not, listen to what she says and you will laugh.we stopped class for a half an hour to go pet a dog in the janitors office.the dog was afraid of english.
shes sooo annoying!!! she even gave us homework on the first day of school!! ugh
Hard but amusing. Don't get on her bad side. One class she randomly blurts out: "Does anyone want to see pictures of animals relaxing?"
She is the most random teacher ever. She does not remember almost anything from quizes we took to even students in third quarter!! Very strict and not very reliable.
If you're learning preference isnt recopying...just recopy, then do whatever is helpful in addition. realize that shes been teaching our parents and she knows a way most respond to
weird class. if u do well with her style and she likes you, then you'll be fine. otherwise, you're screwed.
She is a horrible teacher who does not know how to respond to different learning styles in students. She says the only way to learn information is by recopying it and that is wrong
She's a horrible teacher personality wise but you actually learn something when the years over. She gives out excesive hw also.
i learned more spanish in her class than in any other spanish classes i've taken. i love bott!
Mrs. Bott is an excellent teacher. She pushes students to achieve and she ties in interesting subject matter to Spanish language. Stop complaining about her!
i had her last yr before i transferred and she never got my name right! thank god i left.. or i wouldnt have learned a thing.. copying down all those stories...
she's a fun lady...nuff said. once you learn to relax in that classroom, you're in a position to learn so much about spanish...and about humanity.
Mrs. Bottsy is tight. She makes class so interesting and people complain about just becuase they don't want to put in the work, and she challenges you.
I LOVE MS BOTT!! I learned soooo much from her and she really pushed me too my limits....
dude. if you're a nice person and you pay respect where it's due (or where she thinks it is) you'll be fine. you'll learn a ton. love her.
Mrs Bott is one of the greatest teachers to walk the halls of McLean. If you want an easy A, go somewhere else. You want to learn and know spanish, come on in
Why does everyone hate Ms. Bott? I love this class, it is always fun and for some reason i have not gone a day without learning this year.
There was a plus of failing outta spanish 2... Switching into German with Frau who is the best teacher in the entire world!!! Ms. Bott was ok...
she's actually not that bad once you get her...just study hard and do your work and you'll end up doing fine.
She's okay, but stay on her good side or you're in for it. Never be late, never EVER sit during the pledge or walk in and keep walking during the pledge.
OMG! She is sooo good. I had her in HS in 1989, and I still remember her stuff! Great teacher! Difficult, but good. - JS
The woman's evil, i truly don't know where she hides her broom when she gets to school.Good luck if you get her, be "respectful" or she'll loathe you all year.
worst teacher ever. should've been fired a long time ago.
Very easy, all her test formats are the same. Very clear on what she wants.
if there's anything wrong with the world, its judy Bott
She is one of those rare individuals that delights in the suffering of others.
