As a fluent speaker her class seems very easy flowing yet normal. But from a non native speaker you can obviously see the troubles you can have with her. She doesn't focus much on actual speech but more on grammar for tests. Focuses too much on the textbook alone and doesn't have much anything else to say. But if she realized this she would most likely change and she's very willing to spend extra time with . My only concern is her Taiwanese accent, teaching a Chinese class.
If you are not already semi-fluent/fluent in chinese, you're going to have a hard time doing well in this class. Read and reread the textbook if you want to do well on the tests cuz she explains things poorly.
you do not want this teacher. those who think she's a good teacher is probably already fluent in chinese. i am fluent in chinese but i still think she's a horrible teacher. she doesn't take responsibility, makes wrong assumptions of students, treats students as inferior to her, will not admit she's wrong, immature, etc. most high school students have are more mature than her. i don't recommend this teacher. her class is easy, but i assure you, you won't learn anything.
I am a native speaker and I am trying my best to look at a non native perspective. Mrs. Kang tries to hard to be funny sometimes. She is very biased like everyone has said. She can be nice or mean. I take all the notes I can in the class but I review grammar by the book. She misinterprets what the students do sometimes and is somewhat prejudiced. She follows the districts rules too much as if she commit it to memory. Even through all of this she still tries to teach and I respect that.
She is a classic fobby azn mom who goes to church and gossips here and there. She spends majority of the class time talking about things that happened to her. Her powerpoints are very fast, so if you're not fluent or don't have a chinese background then you're screw.
I don't know why everyone is hating on Ms. Kang. Her class IS difficult, but is manageable if you 1) Go in to ask her for additional help, 2) pay attention in class, and 3) put for the effort to actually try to master the language and not just get the "A". I am taking AP Chinese this year and love both the class and Ms. Kang.
She is the most biased teachers I have ... Don't try getting participation points unless you are a kiss up.
For those from Rancho Ms. Chao's class - be prepared to be totally disappointed. I gave up learning from this teacher the 3rd week of school and just studying the text. Not clear on everything unless your native speaker...
She plays favorites. The class will be hard if you don't know much Chinese. She doesn't really help and is not nice if she doesn't like you. Try to be an ABC. Good luck.
Mrs. Kang is your typical Chinese fob lady, so even though she uses strict rules, she is very friendly and likes to spazz out at her corny jokes, which make the class go by quickly.
I really love her class. I like the time when she talks about the experience in China when we read the Cultural highlights. She also teaches the grammar very well :D
work can be unclear or confusing sometimes but, the workload is usually light and if you have friends with you in the class its a blast!
SUPER easy class, but her teaching methods are totally ineffective. i got an A without working hard at all, but still can hardly make sense of the language. her participation system is totally whack, if she hates you, she'll dock on you for no reason and doesn't give anyone any sort of chance to act
the best teacher that actually cares about you, like family in class
She constantly goes off on irrelevant tangents and is a very judgemental person. Her participation system is by far the hardest one at Uni (which is saying something).
Mrs. Kang is very kind hearted and an extremely good teacher. The people who generally complain are the native speakers who sit around and don't listen to what she is saying (thinking they know it all).... So when the test rolls around they don't know what to do. I LOVE MRS. KANG!
she doesn't like native chinese speakers and marks off your participation a lot, but she's a pretty good teacher :)
mrs. kang is really amazing... but she seems fairly biased. it's ok, because the ppl that know Chinese can show off their amazingness (such as A in class with F in participation), while the non-natives have to work hard, it is good and bad. she has other strengths as well
Well, if Jung Kang is being poorly rated, it is wrong. She is a very experienced teacher who loves Chinese culture. I like her teaching very much, and her expectations are easy to meet, if you will work hard.
she is REALLY moody, some days she's nice and some days she's really impatient/mean, plus she takes off too many points for just whispering- but she's overall fine
I want to be fair with this rating. She is very..different. Sometimes she's nice and you don't mind her, other times she will be unreasonably mean and you will naturally dislike her at that time. Just something about her.
I luv her class it's the best class of the day and i always look forward to it. In her AP chinese class. not hard but not easy either. I sleep in class and i also talk a lot but she's still nice to me. She's really good but if you're bad in chinese don't take her high lvl course.
omg she is a horrible teacher. her quizes are ridiculous. if u make a tiny mistake, shed mark it wrong. its really funny how she thinks her jokes are hilarous.she has the most funniest laugh. all the kids would laugh after she say a joke, but they were actually laughing at her
i'm in native speaker's class. i really think she's good! and i always get A. so...some students who get B or C, i really need to tell you, the bad grades just mean that you're not good enough.
often gets off-topic. just sits up there and talks and is completely oblivious to the fact that half of the students are sleeping
reminds me of my mom...asian moms...*sigh*
Hard and sometimes unclear, gives out a lot of HW. Don't take chinese if you're looking for an easy A!! Seems mean but she's just old fashioned.
Great TEacher, had her for 4 years. Chinese 1-Chinese 4. Best all around teacher i have ever had.
not that bad, in her lit class now...and it's so easy
She's an ok teacher... but when it comes to final grades... you'll be screwed over by "PARTICIPATION". She gives enough for maybe ONE student to get a 90%+ init
i thought she said her major in college was english... as a chinese native speaker's point of view, she doesn't know much... and is probably teaching is wrong..
Don't do anything out of etiquette like slouch or sleep in class, shes very sensitive to those things and will grow a grudge against you , even if you get an A.
It's kind of weird how she ALWAYS laughs at her own unfunny jokes. She's very lenient though, you can blurb a lot of lines during sketches and still get perfect
She is not that bad. She gave me a "C" when i actually got an "F" or "D" Teaching is average
laughs at her own jokes while no one else laughs but other than that great
emotions vary, laughs at herself, pretty fun class i guess...lit 2 is too hard
