Mr. Toy is one of those teachers that people love to hate. His class is hard, you have to do hours of reading and studying to prepare for his tests, and the margin of error between getting an A and a B in his class is intimidatingly small. That all being said, this was the only class that even remotely resembled a college learning environment. Love him or hate him, he knows what he's doing and will teach you a lot if you're willing to learn.

Mr. Toy is a terrible educator - his teaching style is both hostile and degrading, driving students away from the subject material. He openly chastises students when they make mistakes and mocks students for giving the wrong answer, discouraging them from opening up and allowing them to grow. I also feel as though Toy doesn't understand the role of high school teachers. While a lot of his students do well on the AP, the majority leave his class never wanting to study history again.

I had him for AP Euro and US history. I passed both APs, but the only thing I learned in his class was how to BS my way through 2 years of fear, boredom, and freezing classroom temperatures. He teaches through intimidation - a highly unnecessary method. I will never forget how he made me cry in class twice, simply because I answered a question incorrectly. The only advice I could give to his future students: once you're through with him, any teacher is a breeze.

Mr. Toy was, without a doubt, one of the best teachers in the magnet when I attended NHHS, and if he is still there, I can only assume that this is still the case. I am unsurprised by the relatively low rating he has received; his classes wer certainly the most difficult I took, his strict nature is undeniable. Understandably, his popularity suffers for this. However, he without a doubt taught me more than any other teacher, and both of my 5s in history APs back this up.
