Love this class! I barely learned anything from my middle school teacher. I've already learned so muchalready and I'm actually excited to go to class! Students don't have to like every teacher but the comment about her not knowing technology is ridiculous. There's more to teaching than that.
I dropped her class because I didn't like they way she teaches. On top of that, she seemed too nice to certain students and I did not like that. I think this was the first time I've seen a teacher play favorites. She also had pretty much no idea how technology works and I, personally, believe that that was ridiculous.
I read all these comments about her favorites...Who cares? Students have favorite teachers, so why can't teachers have students that they connect more closely with? Maybe she makes it more known but all teachers and even us like some better than others. She is a phenomenal teacher and regardless of being a "favorite" (which I may not be), she will always help you no matter what and that is what counts. I feel so lucky that I got to be in her class this year and feel sad that I won't be next year
Mrs. Ballard is awesome. She's a great teacher and she's super helpful. The only thing is that she will choose her favorites (talkative, funny people). I had her as a teacher freshman and junior year. She's great and chill. Also the SAT vocab quizzes were ridiculously helpful.
She became nice to me after telling my counselor to drop me freshman year but she definitely had favorites which I hated and was out to get anyone in her class that she didn't approve of. I remember taking a quiz and she was asking for last night's homework but I didn't want to pull it out in fear of her thinking I was cheating so I tried turning it in after and she said it was "late" and gave me no credit.
Exams are challenging but Mrs. Ballard makes learning the material relatable and interesting. I feel like I have learned sooooo much this year in honors. I feel totally prepared for 10th grade. I really appreciate her sense of humor even though the class can be hard. I will be sad when the year ends.
She's an amazing teacher
Amazing teacher really cares about her students.
Mrs. Ballard's class continues to be one of my favorite periods. I have learned so much in just one semester. While some may think her quizzes are random type questions, they really aren't. Sometimes when we go over the answers in class, she will ask, "why is this significant to notice" or "Why is this important to our themes or understanding of a character/story". Her vocab quizzes enable us to be able to use them and recognize them which I see them in different books all time!
I Love Mrs.Ballard. She is by far my favorite teacher! Her class is not only fun, but I am learning. She has helped me with my writing so much. My first essay I failed with a score below 50% and now I get high A's on them! She is so helpful! Her teaching is understandable. She also truly cares about her students and gets to know them each individually. She gives extra credit and her tests aren't hard if you study, and there are never any surprises. Truly, She is just a great teacher and funny.
I am not the strongest student when it comes to English but Mrs. Ballard's class makes me actually enjoy the subject. It is not easy by any means but she is more than willing to help me when I have questions. She wants her students to do well but also be challenged to have to think for themselves. I think people who complain about her hard tests just want to take the easy way out without having to put in the time to study. I really enjoy her class
Our family has known Mrs. Ballard for the past 4 years. She has taught both of our daughters and we couldn't have been more blessed with the experience. Both my girls took her for 9H and continued to tutor them throughout their high school career. We have one more daughter who will be an incoming freshman next year and I know we will do everything in our power to make sure she gets MRs. Ballard. My kids were challenged and cared for deeply by this wonderful instructor. we are completely grateful
I have had Mrs. Ballard since 9th grade ( I am currently an 11th grader). I was so glad when I saw her name appear on my class schedule this year. She is funny, engaging, challenging, and will spend time with you after school if you need help. My English teacher in 10th grade didn't do half the things that she does. While her tests can be hard, it is worth it because I feel more prepared for the SAT. Anyone who complains just doesn't want to put in work and wants to take the easy way out
She plays favorites and is very hard. She is kinda funny but doesn't teach you anything.
basically if you can get her to like you within the first week of school then you will be guaranteed no less than a B+ no matter how much harder your peers work than you. so much of her class is dependent on if she likes you to be completely honest.
She is one of the best teachers at WHS. She truly cares for her students and wants them to succeed
Mrs. Ballard is by far one of the most down-to earth teachers I have had here at WHS. Her tests are challenging but she guides you to what you need to focus on. It is up to you to study. If you do, they are very doable. She is always available to talk during lunch or after school and leaves her door open if you need help. She makes the material understandable and interesting.
Super funny and engaging. She has a very special way with finding different ways to explain challenging concepts. I have her for 9H and I have learned so much. Her tests are challenging but she guides you on what to focus on. It is up to us to study from her notes.
Really Good teacher, but very biased in class and personality. Though she is able to keep her favortism out of her grading. Assessements are hard. they are the hardest things ever
I LOVED MRS. Ballard's 6th period! Although I wasn't her favorite it was still the BEST class ever! Mrs. Ballard is SUPER FUNNY AND SARCASTIC and I laughed A TON! The class definitely wasn't easy , but it was AMAZING! I don't want to leave *cries
She plays too much favorites in grading. The worst thing is she does not really know how to teach English. Her quizzes test if you have memorized the entire book rather than other more useful English skills. Feedback on essay is never constructive.
Mrs Ballard had a great way of teaching! She sometimes had favorites but that didn't change her attitude towards helping the students. She's very sweet and makes it easy to study for tests/quizzes. I passed her class because I studied a lot and payed attention. If you do the homework and dont talk she will love you
By far my favorite teacher ever at westlake. She is a great teacher and her class is so interesting!
