With less than six class periods to go until our exam, we are not even approaching the end of the curriculum. APUSH is a challenging class, but if we literally cannot finish the required curriculum, there is no hope for us on the AP exam. The very least a teacher can and should do is get through all of the material in time. Ms. Claassen has a lot of historical knowledge, but, especially for someone who has been teaching this class for years, she cannot seem to manage time effectively.
Ms. Classen never grades work and sometimes doesn't return tests. In APUSH, she requires that you take notes on a certain sheet of paper, then she collects the paper, and doesn't give it back in time for the test so you have no notes to study from. She doesn't grade anything, and doesn't put the grades in until the day that the quarter ends. None of her APUSH classes have done an essay/DBQ by April, a month before the exam. All of her classes are seriously behind (by at least two units). Switch.
I don,t know how she can get away with not grading your work. She scares me somewhat and we don,t really get much done in class. The only things that were truly interesting were the examples of drug markets. And i,m getting an a at this point therefore i am not biased.
Ms. Claassen was the worst teacher I had at my time at Washington-Lee. She relies too heavily on the textbook for IB Econ and fails to reinforce what we were supposed to read for homework in class. She spent way too much time on microeconomics and we were cramming the entire international econ unit into the last few days before the IB exam. The IA process was horribly set up and she asked us to write about topics we were not taught about in detail. Would not recommend taking her IB econ class.
To be honest, she is the WORST and LAZIEST social studies teacher in W-L. Everything she does makes no sense whatsoever and she assigns us works to do that we never or barely learned in class. She does not teach and grade assignments (she only grades exams which is why it is hard to get a good grade in that class), and she relies too much on textbook and internet sources, which you can basically do at home. I really regret having her and not switching out the class in the beginning of the year.
HONESTLY, I regret not switching out of her class. Everything you read is true, she is very disorganized and never admits she's wrong. Usually will treat you like you are disturbing her.
a ton of work on you when it's too late to switch out of her class and has you write 3 IAs in the span of 2 weeks. Not only is she absolutely no help with them, but she assigns one on a unit YOU HAVENT STARTED YET. Long story short, she wastes a lot of time, you basically have to teach yourself by reading the textbook, and you don't cover most of what you need to know before the exam. It is beyond me how she managed to get this job and keep it. SHOULD NOT BE A TEACHER!!! (2)
If you get Ms. Claassen SWITCH OUT, at the beginning of the year she seems super nice and easy and goes very slow, then as the first quarter goes on, you realize she hasn't put ANYTHING in the grade book, this is sometimes good because if you don't do your homework in awhile, chances are she's not grading it, but there's no way to predict which homework she will and won't put into your grade. Where it gets tricky is around 3rd quarter, in attempts to catch up with the other classes, she dumps(1)
Shes a nice teacher overall....BUT she GIVES TOO MUCH HOMEWORK(about 1.5 to 2 hours every class), homework that i should be doing right now...
She knew little to nothing about economics, and only graded 2 assignments the entire year. Would make up excuses as to why she didn't grade other things
She grades 2 assignments the entire year in IB econ, just don't expect to learn anything if you take her class.
She's obviously insecure, which makes her cold and judgmental towards her students, and just rude. Also, her organizational skills are disgraceful and embarrassing.
She's ridiculously unorganized. She loses assignments and wont grade things half the time. Also, at least in econ, she doesnt plan her lessons at all and just repeats herself while we learn nothing.
She should not be a teacher. Never grades assignments. She pretends to be a great teacher but she really taught us nothing for the upcoming IB exam. Was also "sick" the day before the IB exam.
Needs to grow up. She acts like she's in 1st grade. Terrible teacher.
She's a good person and she knows a lot about what she teaches. If she'd just work on feedback and follow-through with assignments she'd have a lot less enemies.
She should give up teaching or formally apologize to the world for her life. By far the worst teacher, no person in the school, no county, no state, no country! maybe not country but she is up there!!
Terrible! We barely had any assignments all year long, her grades were TOTALLY arbitrary, and she refused to show you them when you asked. Overall, the worst teacher I have ever had.
Kind of goofy. She doesn't like to admit she's wrong sometimes. 6 or 7 times we started projects and just forgot about them in the World Affairs/Economics Class
