9th Grade. The class itself, regardless of the teacher, focuses a lot on memorization, so no matter what you have to study to getan A. Mrs. Loia is a good teacher if you pay attention in class (which can be hard considering its dry presentations), and try on the labs. Also, the weekly quizzes can be a bit unreasonable with some of the questions, but if you put in good work you should only find yourself at an 8/10 at worst. Her class is unweighted and will end up around 1000 pts, (tests are 100
The class is relatively easy if you just study. Put in effort with a lot of independent studying, and you will be fine.
Really is not that hard if you read the textbook and actually do the worksheets.
Doesn't teach at all just makes us copy notes and do worksheets that she printed from the internet. Tests are pretty hard and require lots of studying (aka memorizing the textbook). If you want to learn in this class, you have to do it by yourself.
Awesome teacher who knows so much about biology and always strives to bring practical applications to biology.
I don't get why everyone is complaining about the tests because they really aren't that hard if you actually read the textbook and take good notes (I got an A- because I didn't study hard enough, but it's okay). I mean she is nice as a teacher, but if you ask her too many questions, she gives you a weird look. It's that class that is actually really boring; sometimes, I almost fell asleep during her lectures. However, you can do homework in class. Human growth and development was horrible.
She's a smart person but cannot teach. I am currently in her Biology class and she tests us AP Biology questions. Most of the class fails. She is also extremely lazy. I lost points for really no reason and she won't change it. It was a random point off.
Great teacher for freshman Bio but hard for AP Bio. Pretty easy (this is for freshman Bio) if you pay attention to her presentations and do the not very hard labs correctly, but just make sure you're on her good side because she gets mad kinda easily. Her "temp checks" -- quizzes are weird because sometimes she quizzes you on random things like what the counselors told you for course selection etc. Overall a smart teacher but just make sure you do things the way she asks you to or it will be difficult. She also doesn't post grades on Schoolloop so ask her what your grade is before the end of the semester to make sure you're doing well.
I love u mom! -Bella
she was okay, but was very moody and sometimes snapped at her students. her tests were not incredibly difficult, but had the most RANDOM questions on there. when she says the test'll be on everything we went over, she really means "everything," like the names of teachers and presenters.
Not sure about regular bio, but seriously, no one has any idea what's going on as far as AP Bio is concerned.
She's a nice teacher, and cares about her students. Does her best to answer questions, and loves artwork/coloring (lucky me.) Sadly, I got a B in her class. Whatever. Totally blew my finals, so I deserved it. Tests are not hard, just study.
Shes a great teacher ! I learnt so much in my biology class this year. It was amazing. :-) She's a bit strict on assignments but she is amazing. ! I love Mrs. Loia
Not only patient, but she teaches the material really well - you really come out of her class knowing a lot of biology, and that's without loads of homework every night! Just don't sleep in class, and you're fine - not that you'd have a reason to sleep in class anyway.
Very chill class... If you do all your homework and study, you should be fine. It was a fun and informative class and she is very approachable
Easy, lectures easy to understand, got A with minimum study time.
She's very understanding, but sometimes you can just push her a little too far and she'll get frustrated with you. But that's ok =D
awesome teacher for apbio, explained everything really well. extremely nice too.
Very patient and nice, even too the most obnoxious students. Very helpful too, I could always get answers when I asked. I'm planning to take AP Biology in hope of getting her again.
Her bio class was hard at first, but she really got me interested in bio at the end. She's really like a mom to her students, very sensible and approachable. Great teacher.
Mrs. Loia is the coolest. shes sooooo nice. and she talks to everyone so nicely, and is so clear and articulate. you dont even need to pay attencion at all in the class, i just read the stuff over the night before the test and almost always get an a.
she actually teaches biology but she is the hardest teacher ever. her class is like biology honors
class is very kool. Gives a lot of extra credit or curving on tests
Ms. Horley then Mrs. Loia now. I took her AP Bio class back in 1994 which was her very first year teaching. Class was fun and challenging. However, I spent more time outside than inside the classroom because she kicked me out almost everyday.
hooray mrs. loia! not many teachers that can make protein folding fun
she is a really good bio teacher : )she knows a lot and if you got questions on bio she always can give you the best answer. but her tests are really hard.
SHE RAISED MY GRADE :) BUT THEN SHE MADE IT GO DOWN BECAUSE OF MS WU! >[
I LOVE MRS. LOIA. Superb teacher. She knows sooo much its amazing. She's very down to earth and a great and caring person. I often find her asking questions about my life outside of school and my extracurriculars. I love talking to her!
She is one of the coolest teachers I have. She will help you and she makes bio fun! I usually hate cells and stuff, but now i understand it! :)
I'm suffering in AP bio.. but she's a very good teacher.
her lectures need to be more indepth...because understanding her lectures wont get you a good test grade
good teacher, i really enjoyed her lectures, which is more than i can say for most of my other teachers. -_-
She's on maternal leave this year, but hopefully she'll be back. Loved her visual-kinetic way of illustrating concepts, lots of fun to be in her class. She takes care of her students, if you know what I mean.
she was tough but fun at the same time. We need her back for bio AP
