Kevin McDermott is perhaps the most consequential of my many, many teachers. Like others who comment here, he set me on a path that took me through graduate school, through a doctorate in literature, and in my case, through a book about New England writing. Unequivocally grateful to him for this trajectory, I still remember the feeling of being his student. Prove it, he would say to our offhand, platitudinous declarations. So many of us owe him so much for his model of rigorous thought.
Mr. McDermott was the best teacher I have ever had (including college and graduate school). I still think of his teachings from time to time even though he was my teacher many moons ago. (1998 graduate)
An amazing teacher who inspired me to go on with the study of literature, earning a PhD and becoming a professional literary scholar. My life was literally shaped by this man's teaching.
Very condescending. Has pre-conceived notions of who's smart/not and won't change his mind no matter how brilliant your writing is. Don't be discouraged if he insults you- his opinion doesnt matter!
I LOVE Mr. McDermott! I had him for junior Honors and now for Senior AP. He knows what he's doing, loves what he's doing, and really pushes kids to work.
I am 35 years old, teaching his subject area and still remember him, but I use him as a rule of how not to teach. He would humiliate and compare students, and listened to no one.
Sheer excellence. Challenging but fair. I graduated in 99 and majored in English in college because of him. Extremely helpful. Similar to a college professor.
Although he may be hard, he is the most interesting teacher I have this year. His class is one that I actually do NOT hate, it actually relates to real life.
I had him for English Lit in 1973. I still remember the lessons he taught me. Bravo, Mr McDermott. I still take the 'road less travelled.'
He's nice but compares everyone to his AP kids... who wants to be in AP n e ways??
He can be funny but he can also be rude and not funny at all. He needs to remeber what he says and doesn't say too.
Mr. McDermott is a hard teacher and sometimes he isn't very clear. However all he wants is for his students to work to their potential and that is commendable.
Mr. McDermott may be overly sarcastic and he is sometimes downright mean but when it comes down to it he just wants to make sure that we work to out potential
Definately a great teacher. He knows what he's talking about, always.
cool homeroom teacher but not too many people like him as a teacher. i feel bad. haha not
He is a very nice teacher and a real nice guy. You can also go and talk to him about other stuff.
