Shindel prides himself on forcing students to challenge their conceptions of the world, which could be valuable for the insular CAP community. However, Shindel throws away the promise of his class with pomposity and disorganization. Most egregious of all is his disregard for basic educational standards. He consistently changes due dates, cancels projects, and in one case, said he didn't feel like grading a major research paper and gave everyone a 90. Unless that sounds exciting to you, avoid him
Shindel is someone you will either love or hate -- and he will love or hate you right back. He has a massive ego and is point-blank convinced that he's sharing "the truth" that the shadowy powers-that-be "don't want you to know." Be prepared for rambling class discussions and vague assignments that he comes up with on the fly, along with repeated mentions of how you shouldn't go to college. So if you already agree with his nutty worldview, great. If not, well, good luck. He'll fail you for fun.
Mr. Shindel is loved by many of the kids that he teaches because they go into the class agreeing with what he has to say. If you have a difference of opinion, sit down and shut up because he'll make fun of you ruthlessly, ignore your comments, and grade you harshly. But if he does like you, do whatever you want. Seriously, one kid in my class told him he "just wasn't feeling it that day" and left. Shindel added 5 pts to his most recent project for "being up front."
Just go with it... for anyone expecting clear instructions and set agendas, toooo bad. Shindel's class may be hard for those who need everything cut-and-dry but I promise if you are engaged and open to new ideas, you'll learn so much more in one class than most of your other classes combined
As a CAP graduate and current university student, Mr. Shindel still remains my favorite teacher. He is a bit disorganized, but he makes up for it by his wisdom and genuine passion to help all his students become better academically as well as personally. It took me an entire semester to get used to his teaching style because it was very organic and discussion based. Put down your pen and pencil, open your mind, and speak up. He'll love you for it and your grade and growing wisdom will show it.
If you're dissatisfied with your current education, Mr. Shindel will make sure that you actually learn about topics that relate to your future and he will challenge you to become a better scholar. You will never find a better teacher in high school. Don't waste a single second in his class, absorb everything he has to say and learn from him. Participate in his class and his discussions. Bottom line, he is an incredible educator, and I will be shocked to find anyone better.
Mr. Shindel, you are the man! Even though you have a huge head and your a ravens fan, you are the man. Great teacher and gives very helpful advice. If you the opportunity to take his class, take it!
Mr. Shindel has a really big head. Literally, dome's off the charts. But with all due respect, one of the very few teachers in the system that I've had that has tried to expand our knowledge beyond an academic standpoint. A lot of people aren't used to his teaching style, so they find it hard to adjust. I think he grades based on his expectations of you as an individual. So if he thinks you can do better on an assignment, you probably can. Which is completely fair. Great guy and teacher.
Honestly, he's the only reason I like school anymore and the only person who has taught me anything in the past 11 years in school.
Everyone wants to like Shindel. He knows how to get a great discussion starting and how to pull actual thoughts and concepts out of his students. I sit in the very front of his class just so that I can get the full effect of every point me makes. However, his in-class skills do not make up for his horrendously unjust grading "system" and blatant game of favorites. He judges not on the work you have done, but on the name written on the paper.
Mr. Shindel is one of the best teachers I've had in a long time. I was starting to give up on CAP, thinking that it was just some kind of bs program where the lazy teachers were because they knew that
Shindel is the best teacher I have ever had and is a fantastic person who is always willing to help.
does not express what he wants, and we suffer the consequences
Mr. Shindel is a very awesome guyu, who made the classroom very entertaining and whenever you need someone to talk to, he is always lending an ear
Condescending. Pretentious. Egotistical. I've never met anyone more full of BS in my entire life. He's the type of teacher you either love or hate, and there's a specific type of person who loves Shindel. He wants to be the Dead-Poet's-Society-esque, inspirational teacher, so he fills his classes with controversy. Fine. Not fine? His constant assertions that his viewpoint is the only option. Basically, a jack***, but if you're the type of person who really goes for philosophical BS, you might love him.
he is the only teacher that motivates students to think beyond what is taught at school, beyond the corriculum, and he doesn't enforce its but with his personality and the way he is the class is so much fun. The best teacher at blair. period.
The best teacher I have ever had. I looked forward to his class each day and learned everything I needed to know. He made the class so intresting it dident even feel like work, but you were still learning lots.
The BEST teacher in the school. Literally. This guy makes learning fun and easy. I look forward to his class everyday. This teacher gets a 100,000 even though the highest rating is 5. I learned a lot.
I really dislike Shindel. His ego is astounding, and dislikes people when they don't agree with what he has to say. He's a dogmatic, condescending person and can't grade.
shindel is off da hook! he is way better than most of these teachers here and we actually learn stuff!
GREAT TEACHER-I hope hes not fired. By far the best teacher I have had at Blair
mr. shindel is a great guy, not the best teacher though. he makes it very clear that your not going to pass the final.
Shindel obviously got into teaching to get the "truth" out, so he grades you on whether or not you accept his views. he's so sure he's right it hurts.
This guy is full of himself-majorly. He changes requirements and right answers after an assignment is turned in to him. More full than an overstuffed turkey.
Into teaching students about stuff that matters (as in not too much research stuff!) Don't mess up his fridays.
Shindel was the most fun teacher I've had at Blair. You won't exactly pass the final but at least he warns you of that in the beginning!
Mr. Shindel IS THE BEST TEACHER! His class might be hard but you are brain easily accepts the material as Mr. Shidel puts it into a real life situation for you.
Cool guy. Great, interesting course. Zany political antics. You leave the room feeling like you learned something, even if it wasn't the stuff on the final.
He's all right, but his grading system is seriously whack.
He's cool, but his method of grading is not the best.
He is a really cool teacher. He can start interesting discussions and teach us about awareness of the gov. Hilarious guy, too.
Probably one of the best things about Shindel is that he encourages us students to think for ourselves. He's a real chill guy, my fave teacehr ever.
shindel is was a fun teacher =) talks about the most randomest things, but you still learn.
Shindel is so awesome! He's really into getting to know his students and what they think. He structures his classes to really get you thinking.
shindel is real, he'll challenge you to think for yourself and expose you to the world as it truly exists. definitely one of my favorite teachers, ever. :)
Shindel knows how to teach. This guy makes his class interesting, fun, and enjoyable. You might not get an A on your final, but hey, you learn more then most.
