Benbow sensei is really chill. He may be a little hard in the beginning because hes trying to rule out the kids who REALLY want to learn Japanese. the class is SUPER EASY, I took him all 4 years, we only watched movies in his class and I somehow was able to skip two class in a placement test at my college. So yah If you want to learn Japanese hes the best and hes super nice! :)

Australian guy who pretends to know more Japanese than the actual Japanese students in our class. He was unhelpful, prejudice, made fun of students who he did not like, and would assign homework that he would not grade. This was one of the worst classes I have ever taken. DO NOT TAKE!!!

Good teacher but he gets angry very easily so it's good to be on his good side. He needs to actually teach though instead of having fun. There are days when we do nothing and then days where we cram information.

He is lazy and we did nothing the whole uear. He also thinks hes so japanese and tries to be wise but he has no idea what hes talking about. The class is easy simply because we dont do anything. I ended this class with over 100% but i still dont know how to speak japanese.

I love this man, he is funny and actually know the language he teaches very well and has taught me how to read, write and speak multiple phrases and sentences very well. And he is just a great guy and doesnt get the respect he deserves most of the time, he is a very good man and teacher and i cant wait to learn more from him in the coming years. if you get him be glad you will enjoy that hour of class and remember it for the rest of your life i couldnt ask for a better teacher

I think some of the students who rated Benbow sensei badly didnt work hard enough. The class was tough but...cmon its JAPANESE not arts n crafts.I had fun learning the basics with him, and he always has good and relevant stories. I remember him commingin with an old japanese bow and arrow an showing us how it was used. He showed us kimonos, and movies, and had games and songs to help us learn vocab. If you are interested in japanes then take this class with him, and you will love it. -maiko-

He does have a fairly bad reputation because pissed of students spread things about him. But i must say, even though he is a very strict teacher, he does care for his students.

I had Mr. Benbow back in 1997-2000 for japanese, and I still remember his class. Amazing teacher who demands discipline but also likes to mix up fun. Great teacher

He did NOT give out enough participation 'stamps' that he uses for grading. About 90% of the people in our class got B's because of this. He is a nice teacher though.

I really liked this guy at first, but as time wore on, he just got weirder. His teaching style was ineffective and sporadic. He also does favor girls, especially pretty ones--it felt inappropriate.

Unorganized curriculum. Always eats in front of us during class. We do nothing for a long period of time, then all of a sudden he burdens us with tons of work.
